WORLD HYDROGEN 2024 SUMMIT
·
World Hydrogen 2024 Summit &
Exhibition, World’s Largest Dedicated Hydrogen Event, was held
in Rotterdam Ahoy, the Netherlands
·
For the first time, India has set up
its own pavilion at the World Hydrogen Summit 2024.
·
The India pavilion, by MNRE,
offered a platform for India to showcase its progress in the field of Green
Hydrogen.
2.
PAKISTAN CONDUCTED TRAINING LAUNCH
OF ‘FATAH-II’ROCKET SYSTEM
·
Pakistan conducted
a successful training launch of the indigenously developed “Fatah-II”, the
guided Multi-Launch Rocket System (MLRS).
·
The rocket system is capable of engaging
targets with high precision up to range of 400 kilometers (km).
·
Pakistan successfully conducted a flight
test of indigenously developed Fatah-I, guided MLRS in 2021. Fatah has a
maximum range of 140 Km.

AFC WOMEN’S ASIAN CUP 2026 &
2029
·
Australia and Uzbekistan have
been confirmed as the hosts of the 2026 and 2029 editions
of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian
Cup, respectively.
·
Uzbekistan will become the first Central
Asian nation to organize the AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY 2024 – MAY
18
·
International Museum Day (IMD)
is annually observed across the globe on 18 May, to increase public
awareness of the role of museums in the development of society and recognise
their role in education, and heritage preservation.
·
The 2024 theme
of IMD is, “Museums for Education and Research.”
·
The International Council of Museums (ICOM)
officially established International Museum Day in 1977 by
adopting a resolution during the ICOM General Assembly in Moscow, Russia.

WORLD AIDS VACCINE DAY 2024 – MAY 18
·
World AIDS Vaccine Day (WAVD),
also known as HIV Vaccine Awareness Day (HVAD), is annually
observed across the globe on 18th May to raise awareness about
the significance of Human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV) infections in
preventingAcquiredimmunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
·
The red ribbon is the
universal symbol of awareness and support for people living with HIV.

The National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) appointed David Salvagnini as
the agency’s first chief artificial intelligence (AI) officer, in

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra won
the gold medal in men's javelin throw at the 27th National Federation Senior
Athletics Competition in Bhubaneswar.

DP Manu, of Karnataka came second with
82.06m effort, while Uttam Balasaheb Patil of Maharashtra was third
with 78.39m.

charge as President of the Confederation of Indian
Industry (CII) for the years 2024–25.

named as President-designate for 2024-25.

PRESIDENT OF TAIWAN
·
Dr William Lai Ching-te,
a doctor turned politician was sworn in as the 16th President of
Taiwan (Republic of China (ROC)) in a ceremony held at the
presidential office in Taipei.
·
The First Lady and Vice President
Bi-khim Hsiao also attended the inaugural celebrations.
·
Bi-khim Hsiao succeeded Lai
Ching-te as the 16th Vice President of Taiwan.
10.
ISRO’S MANGALYAAN-2 MISSION TO
INCLUDE HELICOPTER, SKY CRANE, ROVER
·
The Indian Space Research
Organisation (ISRO) has unveiled comprehensive strategy for
its next Mars mission “Mangalyaan-2”. It was unveiled during
special presentation held at the Space Application Centre (SAC) on
the eve of National Technology Day (May 11th , 2024).
·
With the successful launch of Mangalyaan-2
mission, India will become 4th country in the world after
United States of America (U.S.A.), Russia and China to successfully land a
spacecraft on Mars.
·
ISRO plans to use a Rover and helicopter for
Mars exploration which is similar to the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration’s (NASA) Perseverance Rover.
·
The Mangalyaan-2 mission will be launched aboard
the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mk III (LVM3) .
·
Mangalyaan-1
mission was named Mars Orbiter Mission(MOM), launched by ISRO on 5th
November, 2013 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh
(A.P.).
11. BLUE
ORIGIN’S NS-25 MISSION LIFTED OFF WITH 6 CREW MEMBERS INCLUDING ONE INDIAN
·
New Shepard rocket
system built by Blue Origin, the company owned by Jeff Bezos,
Founder of Amazon, under the mission named New Shepard-25 (NS-25) lifted
off with 6 crew members including one Indian from Launch site
one in West Texas, United States of America (U.S.A).
·
It is the 7th human space
flight for the New Shepard program.
·
Till date, the program has flown 31 human
above the Karman line.
·
GopiThotakura, commercial
jet pilot and entrepreneur from Andhra Pradesh(India), is the only
Indian on this human space flight.
·
He is the 1st Indian space
tourist and the 2nd Indian to venture into space after Wing
Commander Rakesh Sharma of Indian Army (1984).
·
Captain Ed Dwight is the 1st Black
astronaut on the space flight. He was selected by former President of
United States of America (U.S.A.), John F Kennedy in 1961.
·
Names of other members are:
Mason Angel (USA), Sylvain Chiron (France), Kenneth L. Hess (USA), Carol
Schaller (USA).

THAILAND OPEN 2024
·
Indian shuttlersSatwiksairajRankireddy
and Chirag Shetty have won the men’s doubles title in the Badminton
World Federation (BWF) Thailand Open Super 500 badminton
tournament 2024 which was held in Bangkok, Thailand.
·
The world No. 3 Indian pair clinched the
title by defeating the 29th-ranked Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi of China.
·
Malaysia’s Lee ZiiJia won
the Men’s Singles title defeating Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus
·
In the Women’s Singles, Thailand’s SupanidaKatethong won
the Women’s Singles title by defeating China’s Han Yue

EMILIA-ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX 2024
·
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen
won the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix 2024 defeating McLaren’s Lando Norris
who finished on the second spot.
·
The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was held in
Imola, Italy.

BRAZIL DECLARED HOST OF FIFA WOMEN’S
WORLD CUP 2027
·
International Federation of Association
Football (FIFA) President Gianni Infantino announced Brazil as
the host for the 10th edition of FIFA Women’s World Cup (FIFAWWC) 2027 during
the 74th FIFA Congressin Bangkok, Thailand.
·
Brazil became the 1st South
American country to hold the Women’s World Cup, beating the joint bid
of Belgium, Netherlands and Germany (BNG).
·
Brazil hosted the men’s football World
Cups twice in 1950 and 2014.
15. IRAN
INTERIM PRESIDENT
·
Iran’s 1st Vice President
Mohammad Mokhber was appointed as Interim
President of Iran for 50 days (before mandatory
presidential elections), following the confirmed death of
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash
in northwestern Iran.
·
Iran’s government cabinet also appoints
Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani as acting foreign minister
after the death of Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in the crash.
·
Mohammad Mokhber’s elevation to
presidential office will be subject to the approval of Supreme Leader Ayatollah
Ali Khamenei.

WORLD BEE DAY 2024 – MAY 20
·
The United Nations (UN) World
Bee Day is annually observed across the globe on 20 May to raise
awareness about the importance of bees and beekeeping globally and the
significance of pollinators, the threats they face, and their contribution to
sustainable development.
·
World Bee Day 2024 was
focused on the theme “Bee Engaged with Youth.”
·
World Bee Day was proposed by the Republic
of Slovenia, with the support of Apimondia, at the Food and
Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Regional Conference for Europe
in 2016.

WORLD METROLOGY DAY 2024 – MAY 20
·
World Metrology Day (WMD)
is annually observed across the globe on 20 May to raise
awareness about Metrology, the science of measurement, and its
application and to highlight the importance of measurement science in our
daily lives.
·
2024 marks the
official recognition of WMD by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO) of 20 May each year as
a UNESCO International Day.
·
The theme for World
Metrology Day 2024 is “Sustainability.”
·
UNESCO organised
an official launch event of WMD under the theme “We Measure Today for a
Sustainable Tomorrow“.
