1. INDIAAI AND META LAUNCH
“SRIJAN”
·
IndiaAI, an initiative under the
Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY),
in partnership with Meta Platforms, Inc.(Meta), has announced
the launch of the “Srijan” Center for Generative AI (GenAI CoE) at
Indian Institue of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
·
This initiative, named after the Hindi
word Srijan ((सृजन
– meaning “creation”), aims to boost India’s open-source
AI (Artificial Intelligence) landscape by driving research, innovation, and
skill development.
·
Alongside this center, India AI, Meta in
collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)
have launched the “YuvAi Initiative for Skilling and Capacity
Building” to empower India’s youth in AI.
·
YuvAi
initiative aims to upskill 100,000 young Indians aged 18-30 in AI.
2.
UNESCO REPORT: INDIA SPENDING ON EDUCATION
·
According
to the latest series of report released by United Nations Educational, Scientific
and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Institute for Statistics (UIS) on World
Educations Statistics, 2024, India has spent nearly 4.1-4.6% of
its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on education between 2015 and 2024.
·
As
per the report, India’s government expenditure on education has fluctuated
between 13.5% and 17.2% during the period between
2015 and 2024.
·
The
report highlighted that globally, the world average of public expenditure on
education has witnessed decline since 2010 i.e. from 13.2% (in 2010) to 12.5%
(in 2020), especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.
·
UIS
is the statistical office of UNESCO and trusted source of
internationally-comparable data on education, science, culture and
communication.

3. 2024 GLOBAL NATURE CONSERVATION INDEX
·
According to the 2024 Global
Nature Conservation Index (NCI) released on 24th October 2024, India
has ranked at 176th position among 180 countries across the world, with
overall score of 45.5 out of 100.
·
As per the Index, India is among the 5
worst performers alongside Kiribati (180th), Turkey
(179th), Iraq (178th), and Micronesia (177th).
·
Luxembourg has topped the index with overall score of 70.8, followed
by Estonia (70.5) and Denmark (69.4)
ranked at 2nd and 3rd position,
respectively.
4. GLOBAL AI PREPAREDNESS
·
The IMF’s AI Preparedness Index measures a country’s AI readiness based on four factors
namely Digital infrastructure, Human capital, Technological
innovation, Legal frameworks.
·
Top 5 countries are Singapore, Denmark, United States, Netherlands and Estonia
·
India ranks 72 out of 174 countries, with an AI Preparedness Index
rating of 0.49.
·
AI Preparedness Index released by IMF (Internal Monetary
Fund).
5. DHYAN CHAND LIFETIME AWARD REPLACED
WITH ARJUNA LIFETIME
·
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MoYAS)
announced the discontinuation of the Dhyan Chand Award for
lifetime achievement and introduction of the Arjuna
Award (Lifetime) with effect from 2024.
·
Arjuna Award (Lifetime) has been
introduced in place of Dhyan Chand Award to rationalise the various sporting
honours of India.
·
The
Arjuna Award (Lifetime) will be given for lifetime contribution to sports
development.
·
The
ministry also announced that to recognize the Khelo India scheme, the
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy will be given
to the University for Overall Top Performance in Khelo India University
Games.
6. AFC AWARDS 2023: ASIA’S BEST
INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS
·
Tottenham Hotspur
and South Korea forward Son Heung-min (32 year-old)
was named as Asia’s International Player of the Year by
Asian Football Confederation (AFC) during its annual award ceremony held in
Seoul, South Korea.
·
Matildas fullback and Australian
player, Ellie Carpenter, won the inaugural Asian
International Women’s Player of the Year Award.
·
Akram Afif, player from Qatar, was
conferred with the AFC Player of the Year award for 2023.
·
Kiko Seike
player from Japan, was named as the AFC
Women’s Player of the Year award for 2023.
·
Park Youn-Jeong, a former centre
back South Korean player was conferred with the AFC Coach of the Year
(Women) award for year 2023.
·
Japan’s Go Oiwa won the AFC
Coach of the Year (men) award for year 2023.
·
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation
(SAFF) has won the inaugural AFC President’s Recognition Award.

All India Football Federation (AIFF) was
honoured with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President’s
Recognition Award for Grassroots Football (Silver) at the AFC Annual
Awards 2023 in Seoul, South Korea.

VAJRA SHOT: INDIA-MADE HANDHELD ANTI-DRONE GUN
·
The Vajra
Shot, an innovative handheld anti-drone gun developed by Big
Bang Boom Solutions, a technology startup based in Chennai(Tamil
Nadu), India was showcased ‘Swavlamban 2024′ –
Indian Navy’s Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO)
Seminar organized by the Indian Navy (IN) at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi,

It has been deployed in the Indian Army (IA)
and the Indian Air Force (IAF).
·
The
Vajra Shot can detect and jam drone signals at a distance of up to 4
kilometers(Km).
·
Weighing
only 3.5 kilograms(Kg), the gun is designed for
portability and ease of use, allowing soldiers to carry it comfortably during
missions.
8. GE AEROSPACE’S LM2500 TO POWER INDIAN
NAVY’S NEXT-GENERATION MISSILE VESSELS
·
The
United States of America (USA) based General Electric (GE) Aerospace’s
LM2500, engineered for reliability and performance, has been selected
to power the Indian Navy’s (IN) Next Generation Missile Vessels (NGMV),
which are constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in Kochi (Kerala).
·
It will
provide six kits of the LM2500 marine gas turbine engines which will be
assembled and tested by the Industrial and Marine Gas Turbine Division of
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bangalore (Karnataka).
·
Previously, HAL assembled and tested
LM2500 turbines for the IN’s P17 and P17A frigates and the Vikrant aircraft
carrier.
9. INDIA-VIETNAM JOINT MILITARY EXERCISE
·
The 5th edition of the Vietnam-India Bilateral Army
Exercise, “VINBAX 2024,” started at Ambala.
·
The
exercise will take place at both Ambala and Chandimandir, aiming
to strengthen military cooperation and interoperability between the two
nations.
10. ISSF ATHLETE OF THE YEAR 2024

Olympic pistol champion Yang
Ji-in from South Korea and Olympic gold medalist in

Federation (ISSF) Athletes of the Year 2024 at the ISSF

11. ARCHERY WORLD CUP FINAL 2024
·
Deepika Kumari,
Indian Female archer has secured a silver medal in the women’s
recurve event at the Tlaxcala 2024 Hyundai Archery
World Cup Final held in Tlaxcala, Mexico
·
The gold medal was clinched by
China’s Li Jiaman
·
Deepika Kumari
defeated Yang Xiaolei of China 6-0 in the quarter-finals and Mexico’s Alejandra
Valencia 6-4 in the semi-finals.
·
It
should be noted that Dola Banerjee is only
Indian to have won a gold in the World Cup Final in Dubai, United Arab
Emirates (UAE) in 2007.
·
The
Indian team, consisting of five archers (three in compound and two in recurve),
ended the tournament with only one silver medal.

27TH COMMONWEALTH HEADS OF GOVERNMENT MEETING
·
The
27th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2024) or
the Meeting of the Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Nations was held
in Apia, Samoa
·
Samoa
hosted the meeting with support from Australia.
·
The theme of
CHOGM 2024 is ‘One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth’.
·
2024 marks the 75th anniversary
of the Commonwealth and this marks the first CHOGM held in a Pacific island
country.

Commonwealth countries adopted their 1st ocean
declaration during the summit
13. U-19 WORLD BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS
·
Inaugural
U19 World Championships organized by World Boxing in Colorado, USA.
·
The Indian contingent delivered an impressive performance, culminating in a total
of 17 medals.
·
India win 3 Gold
14. WBF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE
·
Indian
boxer Mandeep Jangra won the World Boxing Federation’s (WBF) super
featherweight world title.
·
He
defeated British boxer Conor McIntosh in the Cayman Islands.
