1.       CHAIRMAN OF  NSAB

·         The Government of India reconstituted the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB), appointing Alok Joshi, former Chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), as its new Chairman.

·         The revamped seven-member NSAB comprises distinguished retired officials from India’s military, police, and diplomatic services.

·         NSC (India) was established in 1998 by the Government of India (GoI) under the leadership of the then Prime Minister (PM) AtalBihari Vajpayee

·         National Security Advisor (NSA) of India – Ajit Kumar Doval

 

2.       PM OF AUSTRALIA

·         The incumbent Prime Minister (PM) of Australia Anthony Norman Albanese, leader of the LaborParty(LP), has been re-elected as Australia’s PM in the federal elections.

·         With this, he became the 1st Australian PM to win a 2nd consecutive 3-year term in two decades.

3.       PM OF YEMEN

·         The Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) of Yemen appointed , Finance Minister (FM) Salem Saleh Bin Braik as the new Prime Minister (PM) of Yemen.

4.       TOGO PRESIDENT

·         The Parliament of Togo (Togolese Republic), a West African country, elected Jean-Lucien Kwassi Lanyo  Savi de Tove as the first President under Togo’s new parliamentary system for a four-year term. 

·         He was elected unanimously by 150 members present in the bicameral Parliament (National Assembly and Senate), which comprises 174 seats.

5.       GERMANY’S 10TH CHANCELLOR

·         Conservative Party leader and lawyer, Friedrich Merz was elected as the 10th Chancellor of Germany.

·         He secured the majority with 325 votes out of 630 seats in the second round of voting.

·         The President of Germany, Frank- Walter Steinmeier, approved Friedrich Merz as Chancellor at Bundestag, Berlin, Germany.

 

6.       PAC CHAIRPERSON

·         Senior Indian National Congress (INC) Party leader, K C Venugopal was re-appointed as chairperson of the New Delhi based Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Parliament of India, by the LokSabha Speaker.

·         About Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Established: 1921 (pre-independence), reconstituted in 1950 (post-independence)

·         Significance: The PAC ensures accountability in the utilization of public funds by examining audit reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).

·         Role: The committee comprises 22 members (15 from LokSabha and 7 from RajyaSabha) and reviews compliance with parliamentary approvals.

 

7.       COMMITTEE FOR NATIONAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT

·         The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), constituted a High-Level Committee under the chairmanship of Union Minister Amit Shah, MHA, to oversee national disaster preparedness and response mechanisms under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

·         The committee comprises Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW),Union Minister NirmalaSitharaman, Ministry of Finance (MoF),SumanBery, Vice Chairman (VC), National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog)

·         The primary objective of the committee is to enhance India’s resilience against both natural and man-made disasters, such as floods, earthquakes, pandemics, and industrial accidents

 

8.       FAO LAUNCHES AIM4NATURE INITIATIVE

·         FAO launched the ‘Accelerating Innovative Monitoring for Nature Restoration (AIM4NatuRe) initiativeto enhance global monitoring of ecosystem restoration across forests, wetlands, grasslands, marine ecosystems, and degraded farmlands.

·         This four year (2025-28) initiative was launched with 7 million Great British Pounds (GBP) or approximately USD 9.38 million support from the United Kingdom (UK).

·         Initial pilot projects will begin in Brazil and Peru in collaboration with FAO’s Indigenous Peoples Unit to integrate traditional knowledge and biocentric practices.

·         This initiative directly supports Target 2 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework to restore 30% of degraded ecosystems by 2030.

 

9.       KOZHIKODE GETS WHO RECOGNITION AS AGE-FRIENDLY CITY

·         Kozhikode city in Kerala has officially become the member of World Health Organisation (WHO)’s Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities (GNAFCC).

·         Kozhikode has become the 2nd Indian city, after Kochi (Kerala) (2024) and 2nd city in WHO South-East Asia Region (SEAR) after Wellawaya in Sri Lanka, to join the WHO GNAFCC.
