1.       KHELO INDIA TRIBAL GAMES 2026

·         The inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games 2026 (KITG 2026) concluded in Chhattisgarh, held across Raipur, Jagdalpur, and Surguja with Karnataka emerging as the overall champion by winning 38 medals, including 23 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze.

·         Odisha secured second position with a total of 57 medals (21 gold, 15 silver, and 21 bronze).

·         Jharkhand finished third with a total of 35 medals (16 gold, 8 silver, and 11 bronze).

 


2.       BOOK - A ROAD WELL TRAVELLED

·         Autobiography ‘A Road Well Travelled’, is authored by former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Raghava Krishnaswami (R.K.) Raghavan.

·         The updated autobiography of R.K. Raghavan traces his career from the Indian Police Service (IPS) state cadre through the Intelligence Bureau (IB) to serving as Director of the CBI.

 

3.       IRDAI DESIGNATES LIC, GIC RE, AND NIACL AS D-SIIS

·         The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) designated Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), The New India Assurance Company Limited (NIACL) and General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re) as Domestic-Systemically Important Insurers (D-SIIs) for Financial Year 2025-26 (FY26).

·         D-SIIsrefers to insurers of large size, market importance and domestic and global inter-connectedness whose distress or failure would cause a significant impact on the domestic financial system.

·         D-SIIs are insurance companies identified by IRDAI, perceived as insurers that are ‘too big or too important to fail’ (TBTF).

 

4.       RBI UNVEILS RS 2.54 LAKH CRORE STATE BORROWING PLAN FOR Q1 FY27

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the indicative borrowing calendar for the first quarter (April–June) of Financial Year 2026-27 (Q1 FY27), under which state governments and Union Territories (UTs) are set to collectively raise Rs 2,54,509 crore.

·         RBI introduced the Benchmark Issuance Strategy (BIS) on a pilot basis this quarter to enhance transparency, provide greater clarity to investors, and stabilise state debt markets by allowing states to issue securities across pre-defined maturity buckets under a pre-announced schedule, creating more predictable and liquid markets.

·         Nine states participate in the BIS pilot: Andhra Pradesh (AP), Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh (MP), Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh (UP).

·         The nine pilot states are projected to borrow Rs 1,53,900 crore under BIS, while remaining states and Union Territories (UTs) will raise Rs 1,00,609 crore through traditional market borrowing methods.

 

5.       CASA RATIO FALLS TO 2-YEAR LOW OF 37.9% IN DEC 2025 QUARTER: RBI DATA

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) reported that the share of Current Account and Savings Account (CASA) deposits in total bank deposits declined to a 2-year low of 37.9% in December 2025 quarter, compared to 40.1% in December 2023.

·         CASA ratio refers to the proportion of low-cost deposits (current and savings accounts) in a bank’s total deposits.

·         The decline was mainly driven by savings accounts, whose share fell by 210 basis points to 28.9%, as depositors shifted to higher-yielding options like equities, Mutual Funds(MF), and gold, indicating a slowdown in deposit mobilisation.

·         Bank deposits grew 10% Year-on-Year(YoY) to Rs 239.8 lakh crore, with savings deposits rising 8% to Rs 69.4 lakh crore and current account deposits increasing 10% to Rs 21.4 lakh crore.

·         Certificates of Deposit (CD) issuances by banks reached a record Rs. 15.5 lakh crore in Financial Year 2025-26(FY26), up 17% YoY, as lenders increasingly relied on market borrowings to support credit growth.

 

6.       RBI CANCELS SHIRPUR MERCHANTS’ CO-OP BANK LICENCE 

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cancelled the licence of Maharashtra’s Shirpur Merchants’ Co-operative Bank Limited over inadequate capital and poor earning prospects.

·         As per RBI directions, every depositor will receive deposit insurance claim amount of his or her deposits of maximum Rs 5 lakh from Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).

 

7.       IRDAI SUB-PANEL TO REVIEW PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE SECTOR

·         The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) constituted a sub-committee of theInsurance Advisory Committee (IAC) to review the current scenario of private health insurance in India.

·         It will recommend regulatory, policy, and operational measures to promote innovation, wider coverage, better risk pooling, and improved financial protection through health insurance.

·         The sub-committee will also examine the role of healthcare provider networks, hospital tariffs, fraud control, and digital systems in improving value to policyholders and reducing administrative inefficiencies.

 

8.       RBI’S 1ST BI-MONTHLY MONETARY POLICY OF FY27

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducted the 60th and 1st Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting of Financial Year 2026-27 (FY27) under the chairmanship of Dr. Sanjay Malhotra, Governor, RBI.

·         The meeting was attended by the MPC membersDr.Nagesh Kumar, Saugata Bhattacharya, Prof. Ram Singh, Dr. Poonam Gupta and Indranil Bhattacharyya.

·         The MPC kept the repo rate unchanged under the Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF) to 5.25% and maintained a ‘Neutral ’policy stance.

·         Consequently, the MPC retained the Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) rate at 5.00% and the Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate held at 5.50%.

·         The committee has revised down India’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth forecast by 50 basis points (bps) for FY27 at 6.9% from its previous estimate of 7.4%.

·         The MPC projected Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation at 4.6% for FY27, which is within a band of +/- 2%. It has also estimated core inflation at 4.4% for the current fiscal year.

 

9.       WORLD BANK UPGRADES INDIA’S GDP GROWTH FORECAST TO 6.6% FOR FY27

·         The World Bank (WB) released its latest “South Asia Economic (SAE) Economic Update April, 2026: Working with Industrial Policy” report.

·         The report has slightly raised India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth forecast for the Financial Year 2026-27 (FY27) to 6.6% from its previous estimate of 6.3%.

·         However, the report projected that India’s GDP growth is expected to moderate compared to previous years due to headwinds from West-Asia conflict.

·         As per the report, India’s GDP growth rate is expected to increase from 7.1% (in FY25) to 7.6% (in FY26), driven by robust domestic demand and export resilience.

·         The report has also projected that the growth in South Asia will ease to 6.3% in Calendar Year 2026 (CY26) from 7% (CY25), primarily due to disruptions in the global energy supply chain.

 

JIM WHITTAKER PASSED AWAY 

·         James Warren Whittaker, also known as Jim Whittaker, the first American to summit Mount Everest, passed away.

·         He became the first American to summit Mount Everest on 1 May 1963 with NawangGombu under extreme conditions, becoming the 10th climber ever to reach the summit.

·         He received the Hubbard Medal (the National Geographic Society’s top honour) from former USA President John F. Kennedy.

 

10.    INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S BOOK DAY 2026 – APRIL 2

·         International Children’s Book Day (ICBD) is observed annually on 2 April to mark the birth anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen, the Danish author known as the “father of modern fantasy.”

·         2026 Theme: “Plant stories and the world will bloom”.

·         ICBD was first observed in 1967 and is organised by International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), a non-profit dedicated to children’s literature.

 

11.    INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CONSCIENCE 2026 – APRIL 5

·         The United Nations (UN) observes the International Day of Conscience (IDC) annually across the globe on 5 April to promote a culture of peace, guided by love and conscience, across local, national, and regional communities.

·         2026 Theme: “Acting with Ethics, Empathy, and Integrity”.

·         The first IDC was observed on 5 April 2020.

 

12.    NATIONAL MARITIME DAY 2026 – APRIL 5

·         2026 Theme: “Maritime India – Empowering Progress”.

·         The first National Maritime Day was observed on 5 April 1964.

 

13.    UN WORLD HEALTH DAY 2026 – APRIL 7

·         2026 Theme: “Together for Health. Stand with Science”.

·         April 7 marks the founding of WHO in 1948.

·         World Health Day has been observed annually on April 7 since 1950.

·         The International One Health Summit hosted by France in Lyon, France in April 2026.

 

14.    INTERNATIONAL ROMANI DAY 2026 – APRIL 8

·         International Romani Day is observed every year across the world on April 8 to celebrate Romani culture and raise awareness of the social, political, and economic issues faced by the Roma community.

·         International Romani Day was officially recognized on April 8 at the 4th World Romani Congress in 1990, held in Serock, Poland.

·         It marks the 1st World Romani Congress held on April 8, 1971 in Orpington, Kent, London.

·         In 2015, UNESCO declared 5th November as the World Day of Romani Language.

 

15.    CENTRAL RESERVE POLICE FORCE VALOUR DAY 2026- APRIL 9

·         The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Valour Day, also known as Shaurya Diwas, is observed every year on 9 April across India to honour the bravery of CRPF personnel during the 1965 Battle of Sardar Post in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat.

·         On April 9, 1965, the Pakistani Army launched Operation Desert Hawk, sending a full infantry brigade to attack Sardar Post, but a small unit of the 2nd Battalion CRPF bravely repulsed the assault in the Rann of Kutch, killing 34 soldiers, capturing 4, and sacrificing 6 of their own men.
