1.       SWACHH SURVEKSHAN 2024-25 AWARDS

·         Indore (Madhya Pradesh) retained the title of cleanest city for the eighth consecutive year, followed by Surat (Gujarat) in second place and Navi Mumbai in third place for cities with over 10 lakh population.

·         Uttar Pradesh declared the cleanest state for its urban sanitation efforts.

·         In the Swachh Shehar (Million+ category) rankings: 1st: Ahmedabad (Gujarat) 2nd: Bhopal (MP).

·         New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) was declared a “Super Swachh League City” in the 50,000–3 lakh population category.

·         Noida (3–10 lakh category) was adjudged a Super Swachh League leader.

·         The 2025 theme focused on “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (3R)” as per the Jaipur Declaration on circular economy.

·         Cleanest Ganga Town: Prayagraj.

·         Swachh Survekshan, conducted by the MoHUA since 2016, is the world’s largest urban sanitation and cleanliness survey under Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban (SBM-U).

                                         



2.       FORBES’ 50 RICHEST SELF-MADE WOMEN ON EARTH IN 2025

·         According to the list, only two Indian women: Falguni Nayar of Nykaa and Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, founder of Biocon India Private Limited, secured the 31st and 32nd positions respectively.

·         Rafaela Aponte-Diamant (Switzerland), co-founder of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), with a total worth of USD 38.8 billion, topped the list globally.

·         She is followed by Diane Hendricks (USA), who is the co-founder of ABC Supply and Zhong Huijan (China), founder of Hanosh Pharmaceuticals, ranked at 2nd and 3rd position, respectively.

·         Australia’s Melanie Perkins (38 years old) who co-founded Canva, a popular design software company in 2013, has become the youngest women entrepreneur to be featured on the list.

 

3.       WORLD’S BEST CONSUMER BANK AWARD 2025

·         The State Bank of India (SBI) has been adjudged as the World’s Best Consumer Bank for 2025 by Global Finance magazine, a leading international financial publication.

·         World’s Best Bank – Societe Generale, France.

·         World’s Best Corporate Bank – BBVA, Spain.

·         World’s Best Emerging Market Bank – J.P. Morgan, USA.

·         World’s Best Frontier Market Bank – Societe Generale, France.

·         World’s Best Sub-Custodian Bank – CIBC Mellon, Canada.

 

4.       MILITARY EXERCISE ‘TALISMAN SABRE 2025’

·         India joined the 11th edition of Exercise Talisman Sabre, Australia’s largest bilateral military exercise, for the first time.

·         The joint exercise, is being conducted across multiple locations in Australia, with extended operations also hosted in Papua New Guinea, reflecting growing regional collaboration.

·         The Exercise Talisman Sabre began in 2005 as a biennial joint exercise between the United States of America (USA) and Australia.

·         Military personnel from 19 nations, including Australia, the USA, Canada, Fiji, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Tonga, and the United Kingdom (UK) will join as partners.

 

5.       DRDO, IAF CONDUCTED FLIGHT-TEST OF ‘ASTRA BVRAAM’

·         Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) jointly conducted a successful flight-test of indigenously developed Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM) ‘Astra’ equipped with indigenous Radio Frequency (RF) seeker from Su-30 Mk-I fighter jet at Integrated Test Range (ITR) Chandipur, Balasore district, off the coast of Odisha.

·         ASTRA BVRAAM is designed and developed by DRDO’s Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL).

·         It has a strike range of more than 100 kilometers (kms) up to an elevation of 20 km.

·         The missile is designed to engage and destroy highly manoeuvring supersonic aircraft and has all weather and night capability.

 

6.       ICG & JCG JOINT EXERCISE ‘JAA MATA’

·         The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Japan Coast Guard (JCG) conducted a joint maritime exercise named ‘Jaa Mata’ (meaning “see you later”) off the coast of Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN).

·         The aim of the exercise is to enhance operational synergy and deepen maritime cooperation between India and Japan.

 

7.       138TH WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONSHIPS

·         The 138th edition of the Wimbledon Championships, the world’s oldest tennis Grand Slam, was held on the grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom (UK).

·         Jannik Sinner of Italy won his maiden Wimbledon title by defeating Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, becoming the first Italian man to win the Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Singles title.

·         Iga swiatek of Poland won her maiden Wimbledon title, defeating Amanda Anisimova of the United States of America (USA), and became the first Polish player to win the Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles title.

·         International Tennis Federation (ITF) is the world governing body for tennis, wheelchair tennis, and beach tennis.

·         Headquarters – London.

 

8.       FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP 2025

·         Chelsea Football Club (Chelsea FC), England, won the 21st edition (7 teams) and the inaugural edition of the expanded 32-team Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Club World Cup 2025, defeating French Champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) 3-0 in the final held IN New Jersey, USA.

·         Chelsea’s midfielder Cole Palmer was honoured with the ‘Golden Ball award’, recognizing him as the tournament’s best player.

 

9.       RBI IMPOSES PENALTY ON HDFC BANK AND SHRIRAM FINANCE

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed monetary penalties on two financial institutions, HDFC Bank Limited and Shriram Finance Limited, for violations of regulatory guidelines under different frameworks.

·         The RBI levied a penalty of Rs. 4.88 lakh on HDFC Bank for non-compliance with regulations under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999 concerning Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in India.

·         Shriram Finance was fined Rs. 2.70 lakh for breaching the RBI (Digital Lending) Directions, 2025.

 

10.    VCF SETTLEMENT SCHEME 2025 OF SEBI

·         The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) unveiled ‘Venture Capital Fund (VCF) Settlement Scheme 2025’, aimed to aid the settlement of violations of winding-up provisions by migrated VCFs.

·         The new scheme is eligible for VCFs with minimum one scheme whose tenure has expired but not wound up and has completed the migration.

·         An entity who is interested in making an application for availing settlement under the VCF Settlement Scheme, 2025, is required to submit a settlement application along with a non-refundable application fee of Rs 25,000 with 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST).

·         As per the new scheme, the base amount for settlement for maximum delay of 1 year in winding up the scheme will be Rs 1 lakh.

 

11.    RBI REVISED RULES FOR AGRICULTURE, SMALL BUSINESS LOANS AGAINST GOLD, SILVER

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued new directions, allowing voluntary pledge of gold and silver as collateral for agriculture and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) loans.

·         These norms will be applicable to all Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs), Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), Small Finance Banks (SFBs) and all State Co-operative Banks (SCBs) and District Central Co-operative Banks (DCCBs).

·         The RBI stated that banks can sanction loans under the collateral-free limit in the agriculture and MSME sectors even if borrowers voluntarily pledge gold or silver.

·         However, the collateral-free loan rules for MSMEs are not applicable to RRB and co-operative banks.

·         For Micro and Small Enterprises (MSE) and Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), the collateral-free loan limit is Rs.10 Lakhs.

·         For agricultural and allied activities, the limit is Rs. 2 lakhs.

·         Tiered Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratio caps have been introduced for loans secured against gold and silver.

·         For loans up to Rs.2.5 lakh, the LTV is capped at 85%; for loans between Rs.2.5 lakh and Rs.5 lakhs, the cap is set at 80%; and for loans above Rs.5 lakh, the maximum permissible LTV is 75%, with no appraisal required for small-ticket loans.

·         Priority Sectors are those sectors which the Government and RBI consider important for the country’s development and are to be given priority over other sectors.

·         The PSL target for Domestic commercial banks and foreign banks (FB) with 20 branches and above is 40%.

·         FB with less than 20 branches is 40%, RRB – 75%, SFB – 75%, Primary Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs) – 60%.

 

12.    INTERNATIONAL MALALA DAY 2025 – JULY 12

·         International Malala Day, or Malala Day, is observed every year across the globe on 12th July to commemorate the birth anniversary of Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani education activist and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate.

·         On 12th July 2013, (her 16th birthday), Malala Yousafzai made her first high-level public appearance by delivering a powerful speech at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York, USA.

·         The UN officially declared her birthday as Malala Day, which was celebrated internationally for the first time on 12 July 2013.

 

13.    WORLD YOUTH SKILLS DAY 2025 – JULY 15

·         The United Nations (UN’s) World Youth Skills Day (WYSD) is annually observed across the globe on July 15 to highlight the critical importance of equipping youth with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship.

·         The 2025 theme for WYSD is “Youth empowerment through AI and digital skills”.

 

14.    DAY OF INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE 2025 – 17 JULY

·         Day of International Criminal Justice, (also known as International Justice Day or World Day for International Justice), is observed annually on 17 July to commemorate the adoption of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in 1998.

·         The day promotes accountability for genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and aggression.

 

15.    NELSON MANDELA INTERNATIONAL DAY 2025 – JULY 18

·         The day commemorates the birth anniversary of the Nobel Peace Prize winner (1993), Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, the first Black President of South Africa.

·         The 2025 theme for Nelson Mandela International Day is “It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity”.

 

16.    WORLD’S OLDEST MARATHON RUNNER FAUJA SINGH PASSED AWAY

·         Fauja Singh, world’s oldest marathon runner has passed away in a road accident at the age of 114 at Beas Pind village in Jalandhar, Punjab.

·         He was born on April 1, 1911, in Beas Pind, Punjab (British India).

·         In 2013, he retired after completing a 10-kilometre (km) race in Hong Kong, China.

·         Fauja Singh, also known as the “Turbaned Tornado”, began his marathon career at the age of 89 in 2000.

·         His first marathon was in London where he completed in 6 hours 54 minutes, setting a record.

·         As a torchbearer for the London 2012 Olympics, held in London, he utilized his platform to raise funds for charity and promote good values.

·         His biography, ‘Turbaned Tornado’, was released in 2011.
