1. WORLD
JUNIOR SQUASH CHAMPIONSHIPS
·
Anahat Singh became
the first Indian to win the World
Junior Squash Championships 2026 women’s singles title, defeating Egypt’s Ruqayya in the final
at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada.
·
Anahat
Singh’s historic victory surpassed Joshna Chinappa’s runner-up finish in 2005.
·
Mohamad Zakaria of
Egypt won the men’s singles title.
2. WORLD
FINTECH DAY 2026 – AUGUST 1
·
World FinTech Day is
observed annually on 1st August to raise awareness
about the growing role of Financial Technology (FinTech) in modernising
financial services.
·
World FinTech Day commemorates the death
anniversary of Cosimo de’ Medici, an Italian banker and
politician, who passed away on 1st August 1464.
·
He is
widely regarded as the father of the
modern banking system for his pioneering contributions to banking and
finance.
3. WORLD
WIDE WEB DAY 2026 – AUGUST 1
·
World Wide Web Day is
observed annually on 1 August to commemorate the
invention of the World Wide Web (WWW)
·
The day commemorates the anniversary of the development of the WWW by Tim
Berners-Lee.
·
Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented
the WWW in 1989 at CERN (European
Organisation for Nuclear Research), Geneva, Switzerland.
·
He
developed the first web server (httpd) and browser (WorldWideWeb) in 1990, and
launched the world’s first website, info.cern.ch, on 6 August 1991.
4. HIROSHIMA
DAY 2026 – AUGUST 6
·
Hiroshima Day is
observed annually across the globe on 6 August to
commemorate the victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan by USA in
1945 during World War II (WW2).
·
The
Genbaku Dome, the only structure to survive the Hiroshima
atomic bombing (1945), was designated a United Nations Educational, Scientific
and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site in 1996.
5. INDIA-MALDIVES
UPI PAYMENT CORRIDOR
·
The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) operationalised
the integration of Favara, the Maldives’ Instant Payment System, with India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI),
enabling real-time cross-border transfers between the Maldives and India.
·
The corridor was developed through
cooperation between the MMA, Reserve
Bank of India (RBI), NPCI
International Payments Limited (NIPL).
·
Transaction Process: Transactions
are initiated in Maldivian Rufiyaa(MVR)
and credited directly in Indian Rupees(INR) to UPI-enabled bank accounts.
·
UPI
is accepted in 10 countries: Cambodia, Greece, Singapore, United
Arab Emirates (UAE), France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar, and Sri Lanka.
6. SEBI
INTRODUCES GARUDA FRAMEWORK
·
The Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI)
extended the deadline for Regulated
Entities (RE) to complete the Accessibility
Audit of digital platforms and remediation of audit findings under
its Digital Accessibility framework to October 31, 2026.
·
SEBI,
also launched the GARUDA framework to simplify and speed up Alternative
Investment Fund (AIF) schemes launched through a streamlined filing
process.
7. RBI’S
3RD BI-MONTHLY MONETARY POLICY FY2026-27
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
conducted the 62nd and 3rd Bi-monthly
Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting of Financial Year 2026-27
(FY27) under the chairmanship of Sanjay Malhotra, Governor,
RBI.
·
The MPC members Dr. Nagesh Kumar, Saugata
Bhattacharya, Ram Singh, Dr. Poonam Gupta and Indranil Bhattacharyya attended the meeting.
·
RBI keeps the Repo Rate
unchanged at 5.25% and Maintains ‘Neutral’ Stance.
·
The MPC voted unanimously to keep the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF)
unchanged at 5.25%.
·
Consequently,
the Standing Deposit Facility (SDF)
rate remains at 5.00% and the Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) rate and the Bank
Rate at 5.50%.
·
The RBI revised its Financial Year 2026-27
(FY27) GDP growth forecast upward to 6.7% from 6.6%
CPI inflation for FY27 is now projected to be 5%,
10 basis points lower than our earlier projections of 5.1%.
