Mohamed Irfaan Ali, current
President of Guyana and member of the People’s
Progressive Party (PPP), was re-elected President
of Guyana for a second 5 years’ term

The PPP
won 36 out of 65 National Assembly seats, giving him a renewed mandate to
govern the country.
·
He is the first Muslim President of Guyana
and the second Muslim head of state in the Americas, following Noor Hassanali
of Trinidad and Tobago.
·
In 2023, he was honoured with the PravasiBharatiyaSamman, India’s
highest award for individuals of Indian origin.

15TH VICE PRESIDENT OF INDIA

Former
Governor of Maharashtra Chandrapuram Ponnusamy (C.P.) Radhakrishnan has
officially sworn-in as the 15th Vice President
(VP) of India, 2nd highest
constitutional office in India and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of the Parliament).
·
The
current composition of Electoral College
is 781 due to 6 vacant seats in Rajya Sabha and 1 in Lok Sabha
(Lower House of the Parliament).
·
As
per Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Mody, total 767 out
of 781 Member of Parliaments (MPs) casted
their votes, registering a total voter turnout of 98.2%.
·
C.P. Radhakrishnan, candidate of National
Democratic Alliance (NDA), was elected as the 15th
VP of India, securing 452 votes against opposition alliance, Indian National
Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A.) candidate, former Supreme
Court Judge Buchireddy (B.) Sudershan Reddy,
who got 300 votes.

SRS 2023 REPORT
·
The Office of the Registrar
General & Census Commissioner of India (RGI&CCI) which
works under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), has released the Sample Registration System (SRS)
Bulletin 2023.
·
According to report for the 1st time,
India’s birth and death rates have
declined to nearly 50% i.e. to 18.4 and 6.4 in 2023,
compared to 36.9 and 14.9 (in 1971), respectively.
·
Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) has
dropped to record low, from 129 deaths per 1,000 live births (in 1971)
to 25 (in 2023).
·
Total Infertility Rate (TFR):
has decreased from 2.0 (in 2022) to 1.9
(in 2023), far below the 5.2 recorded in 1971.
·
India’s
average life expectancy for males and females in 2023, was
at around 68.5 years and 72.5 years,
respectively.
·
The datasets of SRS 2023 revealed that the
proportion of the elderly people in India (people
above the age of 60), has increased by 0.7% percentage points annually, to 9.7% of the population.

BHUTAN PM D VISIT TO INDIA
·
Prime Minister (PM) of Bhutan DashoTsheringTobgay was
on an official four-day visit to India marking his second visit to India in
2025 after an earlier trip in February 2025.
·
Adani Power Limited (APL), signed
an agreement with Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) of
Bhutan, for the establishment of a 570-Megawatt (MW) Wangchhu hydroelectric
project in Bhutan.
