1.       ARUNACHAL PRADESH’S ‘DAO’ AND YAK CHURPI RECEIVED GI TAG

·         Arunachal Pradesh (AR)’s traditional handcrafted blade ‘Dao’ used by several tribal communities and Yak Churpi, traditionhighland cheese, secured the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

·         DAOis made manually by master artisans using forging methods passed down over generations.

·         Yak Churpi is a dairy product (cheese) derived from the milk of the indigenous Arunachali Yak breed, primarily found in the West Kameng and Tawang districts of AR.

 


2.       2025 UN POPULATION AWARD IN INSTITUTIONAL CATEGORY

·         United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) India honored the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP) for winning the 2025 United Nations (UN) Population Award under Institutional Category at a Ceremon at the 46th Annual Conference of the Indian Association for the Study of Population (IASP) held at the Anthropological Survey of India (AnSI) in Kolkata, West Bengal.

·         The 40ᵗʰ edition of the UN Population Award recognised IUSSP for its enduring contributions to global population science, demographic research, and policy informed by evidence.

·         IUSSP is a global professional association of demographers and population scientists established in 1928.

·         It works to advance the scientific study of population and promote evidence-based demographic research worldwide.

 

3.       WORLD ATHLETICS’ ATHLETES OF YEAR 2025

·         Swedish pole vault star and double Olympic champion Armand “Mondo” Duplantis and American sprinter Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone were named the World Athletes of the Year in the ‘Men’s ’ and ‘Women’s’ category, respectively, at the 2025 World Athletic awards ceremony held in Monaco.

·         With this, Duplantis won the Men’s World Athlete of the Year title for a 3rd time (2020 and 2022) while Levrone won the Women’s Athlete of the Year title for 2nd time (2022).

·         Duplantis also received the Men’s Field Athlete of the Year award, while McLaughlin‑Levrone was named Women’s Track Athlete of the Year.

·         Edmund Serem (Kenya), a bronze medallist in the 3000 m steeplechase in Tokyo and  Zhang Jiale (China), junior world record holder, won the “Rising Stars” awards in ‘men’s’ and ‘women’s’ category, respectively.

·         Spain’s Maria Perez (Women’s category) and Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe (Men’s category) were named as the winners of 2025 out of stadium athletes of the year.

·         Michael O’ Connor (from Ireland) has received the 2025 Coaching Achievement Award.

·         Kenyan athletics coach Ruth Jepchumba Bundotich won the 2025 World Athletics Woman of the Year Award.

 

4.       GLOBAL TOP 100 CORPORATE STARTUP STARS 2025

·         Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), became the only Indian organisation recognised among the Top 100 Corporate Startup Stars (CSS) 2025 by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Mind the Bridge (MTB) at a ceremony held in Paris, France.

·         BPCL’s startup programme ‘Ankur’ and the BPCL Ankur Fund were honoured for their significant role in fostering energy-sector entrepreneurship and supporting innovative startups in India.

·         Project Ankur: Launched in 2016, BPCL’s flagship initiative fosters innovation and supports over 30 startups, promoting cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable energy solutions.

·         BPCL Ankur Fund: Offers strategic equity investments to early-stage startups that align with BPCL’s long-term priorities.

 

5.       SULTAN AZLAN SHAH CUP 2025

·         The Belgium national men’s field hockey team, defeated the India national men’s field hockey team, captained by Sanjay Rana, 1‑0 in the final to win their first‑ever Sultan Azlan Shah Cup at the 31st edition of the annual men’s invitational international field hockey tournament, held in Ipoh, Malaysia.

·         With this win, Belgium secured the gold medal, while India earned the silver in the tournament.

·         New Zealand secured the bronze medal with a 6–1 victory over host Malaysia.

·         Participants: Belgium, India, New Zealand, Malaysia, Canada and South Korea.

·         Tom Boon(Belgium) scored 6 goals, becoming the tournament’s leading scorer.

·         The tournament began in 1983 as a biennial contest and became an annual event from 1998.

·         The tournament is named after Sultan Azlan Shah, the ninth Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia.

·         Australia holds the record with 10 titles, followed by India with five and Pakistan with three.

 

6.       SYED MODI INTERNATIONAL 2025

·         The 2025 Syed Modi International, a Super 300 badminton tournament, was held at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

·         Jason Gunawan of Hong Kong won the men’s singles title, Japan’s Hina Akechi claimed the women’s singles crown, and India’s Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly emerged as the women’s doubles champions.

·         The tournament, launched by Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association (UPBA) in 1991 to honour badminton player Syed Modi (1982 Commonwealth Games men’s single Gold medalist), started as a national event and eventually became part of the global badminton circuit as a BWF Super 300 tournament.

·         The total prize purse for the 2025 tournament was USD 240,000.

·         Badminton World Federation (BWF) Headquarters - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

 

7.       QATAR GRAND PRIX 2025

·         Netherlands’ Max Verstappen, the four-time Formula One (F1) World Champion driving for Red Bull Racing, won the 2025 Qatar Grand Prix(GP) held in Lusail, Qatar.

·         Oscar Piastri finished second and Carlos Sainz third.

 

8.       INDIA MALDIVES MILITARY EXERCISE EKUVERIN 2025

·         The Indian Army(IA) and the Maldives National Defence Force(MNDF) commenced the 14th edition of the annual bilateral military exercise ‘EKUVERIN’ at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

·         Conducted annually since 2009, EKUVERIN is a bilateral military exercise held alternately in India and the Maldives.

·         Maldives President- Mohamed Muizzu.

·         Capital-Male.

 

9.       INDIA-INDONESIA MILITARY EXERCISE ‘GARUDA SHAKTI 2025’

·         The 10th edition of the India–Indonesia Joint Special Forces ‘Exercise Garuda Shakti’ began at the Special Forces Training School(SFTS) at Bakloh, Himachal Pradesh(HP).

·         Garuda Shakti is a bilateral exercise conducted between the special forces of India (Para Special Forces) and Indonesia. The exercise was first initiated in 2012.

·         The 9th edition of the India-Indonesia joint military exercise, Garuda Shakti 2024 held in Indonesia.

·         Indonesia Capital – Jakarta.

·         Currency – Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).

 

10.    NBBL ROLLS OUT BANKING CONNECT

·         NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited (NBBL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), launched “Banking Connect” aninteroperable net banking platform designed to transform online merchant payments by eliminating multiple integrations, enabling biometric authenticationandproviding real-time Reserve Bank of India(RBI) oversight on fund flows.

·         The platform was introduced during the Global Fintech Festival 2025 in the presence of the RBI Governor.

·         Single NBBL-certified integration connects banks to all payment aggregators (PAs); supports HDFC, ICICI, SBI, YES, AU SFB, Federal Bank + PayU, PineLabs, Razorpay, Juspay, Zoho.

·         No username/password; biometric/QR payments; mobile-first design; uniform UI across providers; low-code/no-code merchant onboarding (10-15 days instant).

·         Real-time fraud monitoring, standardised error codes, policy-driven controls; minimises redirect/timeout drop-offs.

·         Settlement Efficiency: Same-day (8 cycles/day) vs monthly; RBI gets instant transaction visibility (vs weekly/yearly lag) for crypto/gaming oversight.
