1. CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF (CDS)
& CHIEF OF THE NAVAL STAFF (CNS)
·
The Government of India (GoI) appointed
Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) (Retired) NS Raja Subramani as
the 3rd Chief
of Defence Staff (CDS) and Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs (DMA), under the
Ministry of Defence (MoD), with effect from May 30, 2026, succeeding Anil
Chauhan, whose tenure concludes on the same date.
·
Vice Admiral Krishna
Swaminathan was
appointed as the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of Indian
Navy (IN) and will assume charge on May 31, 2026,
succeeding Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who
retires on the same date.
2. BULGARIA
PRIME MINISTER
·
National
Assembly of Bulgaria formally elected and swore in former
President Rumen Radev from Progressive Bulgaria party as Prime Minister of
Bulgaria, with a majority of 124 out of 240 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
·
It
marks the country’s eighth parliamentary election in
five years followed the collapse of former Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov’s
government in December 2025.
3. PRESIDENT
OF COSTA RICA
·
Laura Virginia Fernández
Delgado was sworn in as the 50th
President of Costa Rica at the National Stadium in San José,
Costa Rica, for a four-year term (2026–2030), succeeding
former President Rodrigo Chaves Robles.
·
Her right-wing Sovereign People’s Party (PPSO) secured an absolute majority by winning 31
of the 57 seats in the unicameral legislature during the February 2026
election.
·
Laura
became the second woman to hold the
office after Laura Chinchilla Miranda, who served from 2010 to 2014.
4. CM
OF WB
·
SuvenduAdhikari, leader
of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), officially sworn-in as the 9th Chief
Minister (CM) of West Bengal, becoming the first
leader from the BJP to hold the post in the state.
·
He
succeeded Mamata Banerjee, who served as WB’s CM
since 2011.
·
Ravindra Narayana Ravi,
Governor of West Bengal, administered the oath of office and secrecy to
SuvenduAdhikari
·
In the 2026 WB Legislative Assembly
elections, the BJP won 207 of 294 seats,
ending the 15-year rule of the All India Trinamool
Congress (AITC), which secured 80 seats.
5. TAMIL
NADU CHIEF MINISTER
·
C. Joseph Vijay (Perambur
constituency), the founder of TamilagaVettriKazhagam (TVK),
was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister (CM) of Tamil Nadu and
officially succeeded MuthuvelKarunanidhi Stalin.
·
The
ceremony took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, Tamil
Nadu (TN), where Governor
RajendraVishwanathArlekar administered the oath.
6. CHAIRMAN
OF BRISEC CCI
·
Legal expert Dr. Harvansh
Chawla was appointed as the Chairman of
the BRISEC Chamber of Commerce &
Industry (BRISEC CCI)
·
BRISEC-CCI, established in May 2026 andrecognised by National Institution for
Transforming India (NITI Aayog), focuses
on promoting global trade, investment, innovation, and wider economic
cooperation beyond the BRICS framework.
7.
CHIEF MINISTER OF ASSAM
·
Dr. HimantaBiswaSarma, leader
of the BJP, Assam from Jalukbari
constituency, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam for
a second consecutive term, becoming the first non-Congress leader in
Assam to serve two successive terms as CM.
·
The
ceremony took place in Guwahati, where Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of
Assam, administered the oath of office and secrecy as per the Third
Schedule of the Constitution.
·
Based
on Article 164 the Governor appoints the Chief
Minister.
8. CII
PRESIDENT
·
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) elected R
Mukundan as its President for 2026–27
·
The CII
also elected Suchitra Ella as President-Designate and ShashwatGoenka as
Vice President for the 2026–27 term.
9. CM
OF PUDUCHERRY
·
N. Rangasamy,
the leader of the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) from Thattanchavady and Mangalam constituencies, was sworn in as
the Chief Minister of Puducherry for a fifth term, after the National
Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a majority in 2026 Assembly polls.
·
He became the first leader in the history of
the Union Territory of Puducherry to serve as CM for a fifth term.
·
The
oath of office and secrecy was administered by the Lieutenant Governor (LG), KuniyilKailashnathan,
at LokNivas, Puducherry.
·
In the
33-member Puducherry Legislative Assembly, the NDA secured 18
seats, crossing the majority mark of 17 seats.
·
The
2026 Assembly elections recorded a historic voter turnout of 89.87%, the
highest ever in the history of Assembly elections in Puducherry.
10. PRESIDENT
OF UGANDA
·
Yoweri Museveni,
the leader of the National Resistance
Movement(NRM), was sworn in as the President of Uganda for
seventh term, following his victory
in the country’s presidential election
·
Museveni
secured over 71% of the vote, while opposition leader
Bobi Wine received nearly 25%
11. PMSBY,
PMJJBY AND APY COMPLETES 11 YEARS
·
Three ‘Jan Suraksha’
schemes, comprising: Pradhan Mantri Suraksha BimaYojana (PMSBY), Pradhan MantriJeevanJyotiBimaYojana (PMJJBY),and
Atal Pension Yojana (APY).
·
These 3 flagship schemes of the Government of
India (GoI) were designed to provide
affordable financial protection to all, particularly the underserved and
vulnerable sections of society.
·
These
social security schemes were officially launched by Prime Minister(PM) Narendra
Modi on May 09 2015 in Kolkata
·
PMJJBY is a
one-year cover, renewable year-to-year scheme, is designed to
provide Life Insurance cover for death
due to any reason at a premium of less than Rs 2 per day.
·
It is
administered by Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), though
participating banks or post offices may partner with any life insurance company
for its implementation.
·
PMSBY aims
to provide accidental death and
disability cover for death or disability on account of an accident, up to Rs 2 Lakhs, at an affordable
premium of less than Rs.2 per month.
·
It is
administered by the Ministry of Finance(MoF), and is
implemented through Public Sector General Insurance Companies (PSGICs) and
other General Insurance companies in collaboration with banks and post offices
for enrollment and premium collection.
·
APYaims
to create a universal social security
system for all Indians, especially the poor, the under-privileged and the
workers engaged in the unorganised sector.
·
The
scheme is managed by Pension Fund
Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) under the overall
administrative and institutional architecture of the National Pension System
(NPS).
12. JANANI
PLATFORM - MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTHCARE DIGITAL MONITORING SYSTEM
·
The Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare (MoHFW) launched the JANANI
platform (Journey of
Antenatal, Natal and Neonatal Integrated Care) during the 10th edition of
the National Summit on Innovation and
Inclusivity held in Chandigarh.
·
Introduced
as an upgraded version of the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH)
portal, the platform aims to create a Longitudinal Digital Record
System (LDRS) for women across reproductive stages.
