1.       WORLD CIRCULAR ECONOMY FORUM 2026

·         World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) 2026 held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

·         With this, India became the 1st South Asian country to host the WCEF.

·         Theme ‘Circular Economy: Transition for People and Prosperity’.

·         The forum was organised by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in collaboration with Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, Government of Finland; Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India (GoI); Government of Gujarat and Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB).

 


2.       GOVERNMENT DISSOLVES DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION

·         The Government of India (GoI) dissolved the Digital Communications Commission (DCC), the apex inter-departmental decision-making body under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications after nearly 37 years of functioning.

·         Formed in April 1989 as Telecom Commission and renamed DCC in October 2018 under the National Digital Communications Policy, 2018.

·         It handled major telecom policy, administrative and financial matters as an apex inter-departmental body.

·         Financial Powers: Projects up to Rs 100 crore were decided by the DoT Secretary, up to Rs 500 crore by the Telecom Minister, and Rs 500–1,000 crore to the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC).

 

3.       AB PM-JAY COMPLETES 8 YEARS

·         The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan-Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) to achieve universal health coverage completed eight years with over 60 crore (Cr) beneficiaries.

·         AB PM-JAY was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 23 September 2018 from the city of Ranchi, Jharkhand.

·         It is the world’s largest government-funded public health insurance and assurance scheme, providing up to Rs 5 lakh per family annually for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.

·         This is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS), with a funding ratio of: 60:40 - Centre: States, 90:10 – Centre: North-Eastern (NE) States, Himachal Pradesh (HP), Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

·         60:40 – Centre: Union territories (UTs) with a legislature.

·         100% – By Centre for UTs without legislature.

 

4.       3RD ANTF CONFERENCE 2026

·         Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Minister of Cooperation, inaugurated the 3rd National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Heads of States/Union Territories (UTs) in New Delhi.

·         The conference aimed to achieve the targets of the Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026–2029), focusing on dismantling drug networks and setting a goal of a drug-free India by 31 December 2029 in line with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

·         Theme “United Resolve, Shared Responsibility,” emphasising a whole-of-government approach involving central agencies, States, and stakeholders.

 

5.       GOVT MANDATES BIS CERTIFICATION FOR SMARTPHONE SCREEN PROTECTORS

·         The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India (GoI) mandated Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for smartphone screen protectors, bringing them under the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021, with effect from 1 April 2027.

·         Smartphone screen protectors must conform to the Indian Standard (IS) 19348:2025 before they can be manufactured, imported or sold in India.

·         Quality Parameters: The standard covers parameters including thickness, dimensions, light transmission, visual defects and strength. Compliant products will be required to carry the BIS Standard Mark.

·         Compliance: Manufacturers and importers must meet the prescribed standard before sale in India, with a transition period until March 31, 2027.

·         Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) established on 1 April 1987 and headquartered in New Delhi, Delhi, is India’s National Standards Body under the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (MoCAFPD).

 

6.       UN RELEASE ‘THE GENDER SNAPSHOT 2026’

·         The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) released the report titled “Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The Gender Snapshot 2026”, highlighting the status of gender equality under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

·         The report, released on 17 September 2026, draws on more than 100 data sources to track progress for women and girls across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

·         Reduction in Budget: Around one in four institutional mechanisms for gender equality experienced reductions in their operating budgets, while nearly one in 10 lost control over their budgets altogether.

·         Global funding for gender equality fell to its lowest level since 2021, with women’s rights organisations among the most affected.

·         Globally, six in seven countries are led by men.

·         Nearly nine in 10 defence ministers and more than eight in 10 finance ministers are men.

·         Women’s representation in national parliaments increased from 22.3% in 2015 to 27.4% in 2026.

·         Women’s representation in local government stood at 35.6%.

 

7.       INDIA’S FIRST INDIGENOUS LONG-RANGE OWA DRONE ‘KAL’

·         India’s first indigenous long-range One-Way Attack (OWA) drone named ‘KAL’ has successfully completed its flight testing at the Pokhran Field Firing Range (PFFR), Rajasthan. 

·         The drone, designed and developed by IG Defence (Noida Uttar Pradesh, UP), and was launched from a vehicle-mounted platform.

·         Designed for extended-range operations, it offers up to 1,000 km (kilometres) range, 7–8 hours endurance, 50 kg (kilograms) payload capacity, and operations up to 5,000 m (metres) altitude.

 

8.       BIOMETRIC AADHAAR AUTHENTICATION FOR SUBSIDISED LPG REFILL BOOKING

·         Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) has mandated Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) for domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) consumers from October 1, 2026, to book refills at the regulated Retail Selling Price (RSP) with applicable subsidy.

·         Consumers completing BAA can continue LPG refill booking at regulated RSP with subsidy, while those without BAA must complete authentication to avail subsidised refills at RSP.

·         Non-BAA Consumers unwilling or unable to complete BAA can continue receiving LPG by registering through OMC digital platforms, but will receive 5 kg (kilogram)or 10 kg cylinders at market price without subsidy, subject to local availability.

·         Domestic LPG is sold below its actual cost, resulting in an implicit subsidy, estimated at around Rs. 210 per 14.2 kg cylinder in September 2026, compared to Rs. 721 per cylinder in June 2026.

 

9.       INDIA TO HOST ASIAN SENIOR WUSHU CHAMPIONSHIPS 2028 

·         India will host the 11th Asian Senior Wushu Championships for the first time in 2028 with the decision approved at the Wushu Federation of Asia (WFA) Congress in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

·         Bhupender Singh Bajwa of the Wushu Association of India (WAI) was nominated as a Member of the Executive Committee of the WFA.

·         The championship will feature around 500 athletes from 42 Asian countries, along with coaches, judges, technical officials, and sports administrators.

·         The 10th Asian Wushu Championships were held in Macau, China, in September 2024.

·         Wushu is a Chinese martial art and combat sport governed globally by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), with competitions held in two categories: Taolu (demonstration-based routines) and Sanda (full-contact combat competition).

 

10.    MARK WOOD RETIRES FROM INTERNATIONAL CRICKET

·         England fast bowler Mark Wood announced his retirement from International cricket at the age of 36, ending an 11-year international career.

·         He finished his career as England’s sixth-highest wicket-taker in men’s T20I history with 54 wickets in 38 matches, alongside overall career figures of 119 Test wickets in 38 matches and 80 ODI wickets in 70 matches.

·         He was part of England’s 2019 Cricket World Cup-winning team, taking 18 wickets, and also a member of the 2022 International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup-winning squad, where he took 9 wickets.

 

11.    INDIA TO HOST UCI ROAD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2032

·         The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced that India will host the UCI Road World Championships 2032 for the first time in Pune, Maharashtra, at the UCI’s 195th Congress in Montréal, Canada.

·         The historic bid was jointly led by the Government of Maharashtra and the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), with support from the Government of India (GoI).

·         UCI: Founded in 1900 in Paris, France and headquartered in Aigle, Switzerland.

·         UCI is the global governing body for cycling, responsible for regulating competitive cycling and organising major international championships.
