1.       EXPORT PREPAREDNESS INDEX 2021; GUJARAT TOPS OVERALL RANKING

·         National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog), in partnership with the Institute of Competitiveness, released the 2nd edition of the Export Preparedness Index (EPI) 2021.

·         Gujarat has retained the top position in the overall ranking with its total share in exports accounting for 20.83% as of 2020-2021. 

·         The index was released by Dr Rajiv Kumar, Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog in the presence of Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog

·         Lakshadweep, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Ladakh and Meghalaya were placed at the bottom of the index.

 

2.       WESTERN NAVAL COMMAND CONDUCTS EXERCISE ‘PRASTHAN’

·         The Western Naval Command conducts offshore security exercise ‘Prasthan’ in B-193 platform of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)

·         Prasthan exercise integrates all the marine stakeholders such as The Indian Air Force, Coast Guard, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Mumbai Port Trust, JawaharLal Nehru Port Trust, Customs, state fisheries department, Mercantile Marine Department and the Marine Police.

 

3.       INDIA & WHO SIGN PACT TO SET UP GLOBAL TRADITIONAL MEDICINE CENTRE

·         Ministry of Ayush (MoA), Government of India signed an Host Country agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) to set up  the Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (WHO-GCTM) in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

·         Objective is to support countries in developing policies and action plans to strengthen the role of traditional medicine as part of their journey to universal health coverage and a healthier, fairer and safer world.

·         The Centre will be supported by an investment of ~USD 250 million from the Government of India.

·         WHO Director-General-Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus,Headquarters- Geneva, Switzerland

 

4.       SRI LANKA’S NAVY INKS AGREEMENT WITH GOA SHIPYARD LTD FOR FLOATING DOCK

·         In a significant development of India-Sri Lanka bilateral ties, the Goa shipyard Limited inks an agreement with the Sri Lanka Navy to build a Floating Dock with the valuation of USD 20 Million.

·         The Floating dock will be established at the Trincomalee Naval Dockyard, Sri Lanka within a span of 30 months as a grant from India.

5.       INS VALSURA PRESENTED WITH PRESIDENT’S COLOUR

·         The President of India, Ram NathKovind, bestowed the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Valsura with the prestigious President’s Colour at the ceremony held at Jamnagar in Gujarat.

·         The President’s Colour is awarded to a military unit in honour of outstanding service to the country in both peace and war.

 

6.       BYJU’S NAMED A SPONSOR OF FIFA WORLD CUP QATAR 2022

·         Byju’s India’s leading education technology provider headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, has become the official sponsor of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

·         Qatar will be hosting the first ever FIFA World Cup in the Middle East. 

·         With this, BYJU’S became the first EdTech brand to sponsor the prestigious FIFA event globally & became the 1st Indian firm to sponsor FIFA.

 

7.       SHAHEED DIWAS 2022 – MARCH 23

·         Shaheed Diwas, also known as Martyr’s Day, is annually observed in India on 23rd March to pay tribute to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev who were hanged to death in 1931 in the Central Jail at Lahore (now in Pakistan).

·         Shaheed Diwas 2022 is being organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) by focussing on the theme ‘Tribute to Revolutionaries’.

1. INDIA TB REPORT 2022; DELHI TOPS IN TB PREVALENCE

·         According to the India TB Report 2022 – Coming Together to End TB Altogether, India has recorded a 19% increase in Tuberculosis(TB) cases in 2021 over 2020

·         As per ‘National TB Prevalence Survey in India 2019-2021’ Report, Delhi has topped the TB Prevalence in India (among the population aged above 15 years and among all age groups) with 534 cases per 1 lakh population and 747 per 1 Lakh population (highest in India) respectively.

1.       BIHAR BECAME FIRST STATE TO IMPLEMENT DYNAMIC MAP FOR VILLAGES TO TRACK LAND OWNERSHIP

·         Bihar as a part of its land reforms initiative, has introduced the concept of dynamic map for villages, which will get updated every time land ownership changes hands.

·         The move is mainly aimed to curb the legal disputes regarding land.  

·         The mutation process will now pass through three stages – first, a change in the text; second, a change in the land parcel; and third, a modification of the survey map.

1.       NAGALAND BECAME FIRST STATE TO GO PAPERLESS ASSEMBLY PROCEEDING

·         The North Eastern state of Nagaland became the first legislative state assembly in India to implement paperless proceedings under National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA). 

·         TheNeVA initiative encourages paperless operations and reflects the government’s commitment towards Ashta Lakshmi.

·         National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) Is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs with the funding ratio of 90 : 10 by Centre and State respectively 

·         NeVA is a  neutral, member-centric application deployed on NIC Cloud, MeghRaj which also called as “GI Cloud”.

·         Bihar Legislative Council became the first House in the country to transit to NeVA platform completely on 25 Nov, 2021 and conducted Winter Session, 2021on the NeVA platform in paperless mode.

1.       NARASINGAPETTAI NAGASWARAM A MUSIC INSTRUMENT OF TAMIL NADU GETS GI TAG

·         The Narasingapettai Nagaswaram, a classical wind music instrument, hand crafted in Narasingapettai Village in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu(TN) got the Geographical Indication (GI) Tag under the category of musical instruments of class 15 from Geographical Indications Registry.

·         Narasingapettai Nagaswaram is a classical wind instrument.It has a length of 2.5 feet. 

·         A major portion of the ‘Narasingapettai Nagaswaram’ is made from the Water Resistance Tree aacha (Hardwickiabinata).Wood used to craft the Nagaswaram is atleast 100 year old.

·         Reeds are made from the leaves of the locally grown plant called ‘Naanal’.

1.       14TH INDIA-JAPAN SUMMIT 2022 IN NEW DELHI

·         The Prime Minister (PM) of Japan, Fumio Kishida, was on a two-day visit to India to attend 14th India-Japan summit 2022 on March 19-20,2022 in New Delhi, Delhi.

·         The last India-Japan summit took place in 2018 in Tokyo.

·         PM Narendra Modi gifted Fumio Kishida a ‘Krishna Pankhi’, a sandalwood artefact by master artisans in Churu in Rajasthan

·         Both sides finalized 7 loans from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) JICA Loans worth Rs 20400 crores for projects in connectivity, water supply and sewerage, horticulture, healthcare, and biodiversity conservation in various Indian States.

1. INDIAN RAILWAYS PREPARED NATIONAL RAIL PLAN (NRP) FOR INDIA– 2030

·            For the development of a futuristic railway system by 2030, the Indian Railways has come up with ‘National Rail Plan (NRP) for India-2030’.

·            Its objective is to formulate strategies based on both operational capacities and commercial policy initiatives to increase modal share of the Railways in freight to 45%.

·            Vision 2024 of NRP, Vision 2024 has been launched under which implementation of certain critical projects by 2024 will be accelerated which include 58 Supercritical Projects of a total length of 3,750 km costing Rs 39,663 Crore; and 68 Critical Projects of a total length of 6913 km costing Rs 75,736 crore.

1. GOI UNVEILS A PROJECT REPORT TO REJUVENATE 13 MAJOR RIVERS

·         Government of India (GoI) aimed to create a Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) on Rejuvenation of 13 Major Rivers through Forestry Interventions.

·         The project contributes towards the livelihood of terrestrial and aquatic biota. The budget outlay of thirteen DPRs is Rs. 19,342.62 crore.

·         The following 13 rivers are Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas, Sutlej, Yamuna, Brahmaputra, Luni, Narmada, Godavari, Mahanadi, Krishna, and Cauvery.

·         Aim Of The Project is to create green cover expansion for upcoming 10 years and 20 years, under  ‘AmritKaal’.

1. MUMBAI TARGET NET-ZERO CARBON EMISSIONS BY 2050

·         Mumbai announced its detailed framework to ‘zero out carbon emissions by 2050’ and became the first city in South Asia to set such a target.

·         Mumbai’s target is 20 years  ahead of  India’s target to reach net zero emissions by 2070.

1. MISSION INDRADHANUSH: ODISHA TOPS IN FULL IMMUNIZATION

·         According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-5, Odisha became top state in the list of full immunisation in India with 90.5 per cent coverage under Mission Indradhanush. 

·         Intensified Mission Indradhanush  4.0 (IMI) was rolled out on 7 March 2022,  in Odisha to provide preventive health care for mothers and children and  for boosting full immunization coverage.

 

2. ILO REPORT “CARE AT WORK:

·         The International Labour Organization (ILO) report “Care at Work: Investing in Care Leave Policies and Care Services for a More Gender Equal World of Work” was released in March  2022

·         Acc to report by investing in universal childcare and long-term care services, about 299 million jobs can be generated by 2035. Women will receive 234 million (78%) of these funds.

·         An annual investment of $5.4 trillion will be required for this job creation potential by 2035.

·         Employment rates for women will be high in Europe, lower-middle and low-income countries in Asia and Arab states, far more than for men.

·         Maternity Leave About 649 million women of reproductive age from 82 countries did not meet the ILO convention mandate of 14 weeks of minimum maternity leave.

·         Globally, 123 countries offer fully paid maternity leave, with 9/10 potential mothers living in these countries.

·         ILO is the only tripartite United Nations agency that brings together governments, employers, and workers from 187 member countries.

·         ILO was founded at the Paris Peace Conference under the Treaty of Versailles.

·         India is a founder member of the International Labour Organization.

·         ILO HeadQuarters – Geneva, Switzerland.

 

3. RBI BARS PAYTM PAYMENTS BANK FROM ONBOARDING NEW CUSTOMERS

·         Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in exercise of its powers under section 35A of the Banking Regulation (BR) Act, 1949 bars Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) from onboarding new customers with immediate effect due to material supervisory concerns.

·         PPBL will be allowed to make new customers subject to specific permission from the RBI after reviewing the IT auditor’s report.

 

4. EPFO SETS ITS INTEREST RATES ON PF FOR 2021-22

·         The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has set the interest rate on Provident Fund Deposits for 2021-22 at 8.1%, up from 8.5% in the previous fiscal year 2020-21.

·         This decision was taken by the Central Board of Trustees (CBT), the apex decision-making body of the EPFO, and will be sent to the Ministry of Finance for consensus.

·         The EPFO provides the rate of interest only after it has been ratified by the government through the Finance Ministry.

·         The EPF interest rate stood at 8 per cent in 1977-78, and this 8.1% is the lowest it has been in more than four decades.

·         Provident fund savings are mandatory under the Employees Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952.

·         EPFO is India’s largest social security organization, mainly encouraging people to save for retirement, among others.EPFO comes under the purview of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

·         The Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFC) is the Chief Executive Officer of EPFO and is the ex-officio Member Secretary of the Central Board.

5. RAILTEL RANKS 124 IN 2022 FORTUNE INDIA THE NEXT 500 LIST

·         RailTel Corporation of India Limited(RailTel), owned by the Indian Railways, Ministry of Railways, has ranked 124th in the 8th Edition Fortune India The Next 500 (2022 edition) of top midsize companies operating in India.

·         RailTel, a “Mini Ratna (Category-I)” Central Public Sector Enterprise under Ministry
of Railways. 

 

 6. EX-JUDGE A K  SIKRI BECAME CHAIRPERSON OF COMMITTEE ON CHARDHAM PROJECT

·         Justice AK Sikri, former judge of the Supreme Court (SC)  was appointed as the Chairman of the high-powered committee which constituted to consider the cumulative and independent impact of the Char Dham Mahamarg Vikas Pariyojana (Char Dham Highway Development Project).

·         The project included construction of 900 km roads to provide all weather connectivity to four holy towns located in Uttarakhand-Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.

·         In 2021, the SC allowed widening of the three highways — Rishikesh to Mana, Rishikesh to Gangotri, and Tanakpur to Pithoragarh  in the Double Line-Paved Shoulder (DL-PS) format with a width of 10 metre under the  ongoing project. 

 

7. DEBASISH PANDA BECAME NEW CHAIRMAN OF  IRDAI 

·         The government  appointed Debasish Panda as the Chairman of  Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India(IRDAI).

·         IRDAI is a statutory organization established by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority Act, 1999.

8. WORLD GLAUCOMA DAY – 12 MARCH 2022

·         World Glaucoma Day is annually observed across the globe on 12th March to create awareness about Glaucoma, the one of the most common cause of irreversible blindness. 

·         World Glaucoma Week(WGW) 2022 is celebrated from 6th to 12th March 2022. 

·         The theme of WGW 2022 is “The world is bright, save your sight”.

·         Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve. 

·         The World Health Organisation (WHO) has estimated that 4.5 million people are blind due to glaucoma. 

·         In India (2019), glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness, with at least 12 million people affected and nearly 1.2 million people blind from the disease.
