1. ECI RELEASED ‘GENERAL ELECTIONS 2019 INDIA – AN ATLAS’

          Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra along with Election Commissioners Rajiv Kumar and Anup Chandra Pandey released the “General Elections 2019 India – An Atlas”, which consists of data and statistical figures of 17th General Elections held in 2019.

          The Atlas was published by the Election Commission of India(ECI).

 

2. INDIA, JAPAN CONDUCT BILATERAL NAVAL EXERCISE IN INDIAN OCEAN

          An Indian Navy (IN) and Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) conducted a joint naval exercise at the Indian Ocean under the motive ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific‘ (FOIP).

Other Exercises between India-Japan:

          i.Dharma Guardian: It is a Military Exercise.

          ii.Malabar: It is a trilateral Naval Exercise between India, Japan and the United States (US)

          iii.Japan–India Maritime bilateral exercise (JIMEX): It is also a Naval Exercise. In September 2020, IN and JMSDF conducted 4th edition of biennial JIMEX-2020 in the North Arabian Sea.

 

3. UNHCR REPORT

          According to the ‘Global Trends: Forced Displacement in 2020 Report’ released by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) – The number of people fleeing wars, violence, persecution, and human rights violations increased to nearly 82.4 million people in 2020, an increase of 3 million people compared to 79.5 million recorded at the end of 2019.

          The report states that more than 1% of the world’s population or 1 in 95 people are now forcibly displaced.

          This compares with 1 in 159 in 2010.

 

4. RBI GRANTED APPROVAL TO CFSL FOR TAKING OVER PMC BANK

          Reserve Bank of India (RBI) granted  in-principle approval to Centrum Financial Services Limited (CFSL) to set up a small finance bank (SFB).

          Through this SFB, Centrum will take over crisis-hit Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank (PMC) as a separate process.

          For the setting up of SFB, there will be capital infusion of Rs 1,800 crore by the Centrum Capital, holding entity for CFSL, and its partner BharatPe.

 

5. COVID-19 RELIEF PROGRAM – ‘GHARGHARRATION’

          IDFC First Bank has launched an Employee-funded relief program named ‘GharGhar Ration’, for its low-income customers whose livelihoods are affected due to COVID-19.

          Under the program, a Customer COVID Care Fund was set from the contribution of the bank employees’ personal income (Employees contributed one day to one month’s salary).

          Ration kits will be supplied under the program to 50,000 COVID-19 affected low-income customers of IDFC FIRST Bank.

 

6. EUROPEAN INVENTOR AWARD 2021

          Indian-American chemist, Sumita Mitra won the European Patent Office’s (EPO) European Inventor Award 2021 under the Non-EPO countries category for her innovative dental filling invention using Nanotechnology.

          The 2021 European Inventor Award ceremony was held digitally.

          She was the 1st one to have successfully integrated nanotechnology into dental materials, and has invented stronger, durable & aesthetically pleasing dental fillings.

 

7. ANTONIO GUTERRES RE-ELECTED AS UN SECRETARY GENERAL

          Antonio Guterres, was re-elected as the Secretary General of United Nations (UN) for a 2nd 5-year term from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2026.

          His appointment was made by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on the recommendation of the 15-nation UN Security Council (UNSC) and announced by the President of the 75th session of the UNGA, VolkanBozkir.

 

8. MICHAEL SCHUMACHER OUT OF COMA AFTER 6 YEARS

          Formula One(F1) Champion Michael Schumacher, a retired German racing driver who has recorded the most wins – 91, pole positions – 68 and Podium finishes – 155 has got out of coma after 6 years.

          He was placed under a medically induced coma after a head injury.

 

9. INDIAN SPRINTER PADMA SHRIMILKHA SINGH PASSED AWAY

          Legendary Indian sprinter Padma Shri Milkha Singh, who is popularly known as ‘Flying Sikh’ in the athletic field, passed away in Chandigarh.

          He was born on 20th November 1929 in Govindpura, Pakistan.

 

10. 26TH NATIONAL READING DAY – 19TH JUNE 2021

          The National Reading Day is annually observed across India on 19th June to encourage reading among the students across India.

          The day also marks the death anniversary of Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker (P.N.Panicker), who was known as “Kerala’s Father of Library Movement”.

          19th June 2021, marks the celebration of the 26th National Reading Day..

 

11. JAPAN TO LAUNCH VACCINE PASSPORT FOR TRAVEL ABROAD

          Japan stated it will make a vaccine passportavailable from next month for Japanese travellers, as governments around the world experiment with ways to relaunch tourism and business trips.

          The certificate will be paper-based rather than digital and will be issued by local governments from sometime next month.

          The European Union is working on a digital vaccine passport for this summer so it can welcome back badly needed tourists, and some EU countries plan to introduce certificates at the national level.

1. ‘CUSTOMIZED CRASH COURSE PROGRAMME FOR COVID-19 FRONTLINE WORKERS’

          Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched ‘Customized Crash Course programme for COVID-19 Frontline Workers’.

          The training programme will be conducted in 111 training centres spread over 26 states.

          Under the training programme about 1 lakh youth will be trained under in the next 2-3 months.

          The programme has been designed as a special programme under the Central Component of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 3.0 (PMKVY 3.0) of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

 

2. TARGETS TO REDUCE ROAD ACCIDENT DEATHS BY 50% BY 2024

          Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) introduced common PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate format for all vehicles pan-India under Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989.

          The PUC database will be linked with the National Register.

          MoRTH has also extended the validity of motor vehicle documents under Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 till 30th September, 2021.

          MoRth also sets a target to reduce road accident deaths by 50% by the year 2024.

 

3. MHA OPERATIONALISES NATIONAL HELPLINE TO PREVENT CYBER FRAUD

          Ministry of Home (MHA) operationalised the national helpline 155260 and reporting platform via Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System for preventing financial loss of individuals due to cyber fraud.

          These have been made operational by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under MHA, in cooperation from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), all major banks, payment banks, wallets and online merchants.

 

4. SNB STATISTICS 2020

          According to ‘Annual Bank Statistics of 2020’ released by Swiss National Bank (SNB), the Central Bank of Switzerland – India with Swiss Francs (CHF) 2.55 billion ( ~ INR 20, 706 Crore) has been placed at 51st place in the list of foreign clients’ money in Swiss Banks during 2020.

          The United Kingdom (UK) topped the list with CHF 377 billion, followed by US (152 billion).

          In the ‘Annual banking statistics, 2019’ India was placed at the 77th position.

 

5. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT REPORT 2021

          According to the 6th Edition of  ‘Sustainable Development Report 2021 (SDR 2021)’ released by Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), India with a score of 60.1 has been placed at 120th rank out of 165 countries.

          Finland topped the Index followed by Sweden & Denmark.

 

6. GLOBAL PEACE INDEX 2021

          According to the 15th Edition of Global Peace Index 2021 (GPI 2021) released by Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP), India with a score of 2.553 has been ranked 135 out of 163 countries, which specifies ‘Low State of Peace’.

          Iceland topped the GPI 2021 Index followed by New Zealand & Denmark.

          The average level of global peacefulness decreased by 0.07 per cent in the 2021 Global Peace Index.

          It has deteriorated for the 9th time in the last 13 years.

 

7. UNCCD’S 2021 LAND FOR LIFE AWARD

          Familial Forestry, the environment conservation concept of Rajasthan-based climate activist ShyamSundarJyani has won the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification’s (UNCCD) Land for Life Award for 2021.

          Theme: Healthy Land, Healthy Lives

 

8.DIRECTOR AT INDIA’S WTO MISSION FOR A 1ST TIME

          In an introductory move, a private person namely AashishChandorkar has been appointed by the Central Government as Counsellor in India’s Permanent Mission in the World Trade Organisation (WTO) for a period of three years.

          He is a director of Bengaluru (Karnataka) based policy think tank Smahi Foundation of Policy and Research.

          WTO, a 164-member multi-lateral body headquartered at Geneva, Switzerland, deals in global trade. India has been its member since 1995.

 

9. U.S. WOMEN’S OPEN 2021

          Yuka Saso became the first Filipino (Philippines) player to win a major Golf Tournament, Saso a dual citizen with a Filipino mother and Japanese father tied Park Inbee as the youngest champion at the tournament, after winning the 76th US Women’s Open golf championship 2021 at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.

 

10. SUSTAINABLE GASTRONOMY DAY 2021 – JUNE 18

          The United Nations(UN)’s Sustainable Gastronomy Day is annually observed across the globe on 18th June to acknowledge gastronomy as a cultural expression related to the natural and cultural diversity of the world.

 

11. WORLD CROCODILE DAY 2021 – JUNE 17

          World Crocodile Day is annually observed across the globe on 17th June to create awareness about the difficulties faced by the endangered crocodiles and alligators around the world.

1. DEVELOPMENT OF NMHC AT LOTHAL, GUJARAT

      The Ministry of Culture (MoC) signed MoU with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) for Cooperation in Development of National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Gujarat.

      National Maritime Heritage Complex is India’s first of its kind facility dedicated to the legacy of Maritime Heritage of India.

      It will be developed at the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) site of Lothal, Gujarat.

 

2. UNION CABINET APPROVES RESTRUCTURING OF OFB

      The Union Cabinet approved a plan for the restructuring of the 246-year old Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) which has 41 factories, into 7 fully government owned corporate entities on the lines of Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSU).

      In September 2020, an Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was set up to decide on matters related to restructuring of OFB.

 

3. INDIA’S H-ENERGY TO SUPPLY LNG TO BANGLADESH

      India’s H-Energy signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Petrobangla (company of Bangladesh) for supply of R-LNG (Regasified-Liquefied Natural Gas) to Bangladesh.

      H-Energy will supply LNG to Bangladesh via the 250 km ‘Kanai Chatta (West Bengal) – Shrirampur (Bangladesh) Natural Gas Pipeline’, which is expected to be commissioned in 2023.

 

4. NATO SUMMIT 2021

      31st North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit happened at Brussels in Belgium, the leaders of NATO’s 30 member countries were participated in the summit.

      NATO 2030 agenda sets a higher level of ambition for NATO. It provides clear guidelines for further adaptation to address existing, new and future threats and challenges, building on the ongoing political and military adaptation of the Alliance.

 

5. WORLD COMPETITIVENESS INDEX 202

      In the recently released World Competitiveness Index 2021 released by the Institute for Management Development’s (IMD) World Competitiveness Center, India retained its 43rd rank out of 64 nations (for the 3rd consecutive year).

      Switzerland topped the Index followed by Sweden in the 2nd spot & Denmark in the 3rd spot.

      Botswana (61st) was added to the ranking this year 2021.

 

6. SDG PIONEER OF THE YEAR BY UNGC

      During the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Leaders Summit 2021, 10-Global leaders were named as the SDG Pioneers 2021.

      Sumant Sinha, the Chairman and Managing Director of ReNew Power was recognised as one of the Global leaders working towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) through the implementation of the UN Global Compact Ten Principles on human rights, environment, labor, and anti-corruption.

 

7. MICROSOFT APPOINTED CEO SATYA NADELLA AS CHAIRMAN

      Microsoft Corporation appointed its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satya Nadella as its Chairman.

      He will succeed John Thompson who will now serve as lead independent director.

      Notably, Satya Nadella backed billion dollar acquisitions like LinkedIn, Nuance Communications and ZeniMax.

 

8. BRAND AMBASSADOR OF CORONA VACCINATION PROGRAM IN MAHARASHTRA

      The Maharashtra government has appointed Mukund Gosavi as a brand ambassador of the Corona vaccination program for speedy implementation of Corona vaccination in the Jalgaon district, Maharashtra due to his selfless service

      Mukund Gosavi is a person with 80 percent who assisted disabled people and senior citizens in remote areas by providing medical care facilities, arranging essential items to at least 1000 people and reducing fear among COVID positive patients by counselling them.

 

9. BOOK TITLED “THE NUTMEG’S CURSE: PARABLES FOR A PLANET IN CRISIS”

      Jnanpith awardee and Renowned author Amitav Ghosh authored a new book ‘The Nutmeg’s Curse: Parables for a Planet in Crisis’.

      This Book is Published by John Murray and will be released.

 

10. WORLD DAY TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION AND DROUGHT 2021

      The United Nations(UN)’s World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is annually observed across the globe on 17th June to create and raise awareness regarding prevention of desertification of the soil in arid, semi-arid, and dry sub-humid areas caused due to climate change and human activities.

      The theme of World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought 2021 is “Restoration.Land.Recovery: We build back better with healthy land”.

 

11. EUROPE’S LARGEST DIGITAL AND START-UP EVENT, VIVATECH

      PM Narendra Modi invited the world to invest in India while addressing the 5th edition of global tech event VivaTech via video conferencing.

      He stated, “India offers what innovators and investors need.

      He invites the world to invest in India based on the five pillars of: Talent, Market, Capital, Eco-system, And, culture of openness”.

      PM talked about how technology and digital have become the emerging areas of cooperation among the wide range of subjects that India and France have been working together for.

      VivaTech is one of the largest digital and startup events in Europe, held in Paris every year since 2016.

 

12. RAJASTHAN GOVT WILL SET VEDIC EDUCATION AND SANSKAR BOARD

      The Rajasthan government will soon set up a Vedic Education and Sanskar Board to revive the knowledge of Sanskrit scriptures and Vedas.

      A committee, formed to define aims, objectives and functioning of the board, has submitted its report to the state government, Minister of State (MoS) for Sanskrit Education Subhash Garg mentioned, adding modules will be presented before the board based on the report.

 

13. FACEBOOK INITIATES ‘REPORT IT, DON’T SHARE IT!’ CAMPAIGN

      Facebook has kicked off a new initiative to keep children safe on the internet.

      The ‘Report it, don’t share it’ campaign is being helmed by the social media giant in collaboration with Aarambh India Initiative, Cyber Peace Foundation, and Arpan.

      The main idea behind the initiative, as the name suggests, is to encourage people to report abusive or harmful content, and not share it.

1. EXPERT COMMITTEE TO ELIMINATE MALARIA IN INDIA

          Malaria No More, a NGO in partnership with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) & Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) established an India Interagency Expert Committee on Malaria and Climate (IEC) to explore and advance climate-based solutions for accelerating malaria elimination in India.

          India has set a target to eliminate Malaria by 2030.

          It is making steady progress to achieve it.

 

2. SIPRI REPORT ON NUCLEAR ARSENALS

          The ‘SIPRI Yearbook 2021 (52nd Edition)’ released by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) states that  India, Pakistan & China are expanding their Nuclear arsenals.

          At the start of 2021, India with 156 Nuclear warheads (at the start of 2021) is behind Pakistan (165 Nuclear warheads) & China (350 warheads).

          The 9 nuclear armed states in the world (US, Russia, UK, France, China, India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea) possessed an estimated 13, 080 Nuclear warheads at the start of 2021, an decrease compared to 2020 stockpile – 13400.

 

3. UN TRADE FORUM 2021

          Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal represented India at the UN Trade Forum 2021 which took place virtually from June 14-15, 2021.

          Theme of the Forum – ‘Towards a green and inclusive recovery’

          UN Trade Forum is a high-level political forum of the UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development ).

 

4. RBI PERMITTED ‘MOBILE PREPAID RECHARGES’ UNDER BBPS

          Under Section 10 (2) read with Section 18 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007 (Act 51 of 2007), the RBI has expanded the scope of the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) by permitting the addition of ‘mobile prepaid recharges’ as an additional biller category in BBPS on a voluntary basis.

          BBPS which is an interoperable platform for repetitive bill payments has initially covered recurring bills only in 5 segments viz. Direct to Home (DTH), Electricity, Gas, Telecom and Water.

 

5. GIFT CARD ON IDBI BANK’S RUPAYPLATFORM

          LIC Cards Services Limited (LIC CSL) partnered with IDBI Bank to launch “Shagun”, a contactless prepaid LIC gift card powered by the IDBI Bank on the RuPay platform.

          The NPCI and LIC CSL have partnered for this initiative.

          In the initial phase, the Shagun Gift Cards will be available only for the official use of LIC and its subsidiaries and associates.

 

6.  ANAND MOHAN BAJAJ APPOINTED IN SEBI BOARD

          Anand Mohan Bajaj, Additional Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) has been appointed as Member of the Board of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) by the Government of India.

          He will succeed Tarun Bajaj, who is now the Revenue Secretary.

          The other Central Government appointed official in the SEBI Board is K V R Murty, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

 

7. SHENZHOU-12: CHINA’S FIRST HUMAN SPACEFLIGHT SINCE 2016

          China is all set to blast off its first human spaceflight since 2016 namely ‘Shenzhou-12’ which means ‘Divine Vessel’.

          It will be launched from Gobi Desert on a Long March rocket in the coming days with three men onboard.

          The crew will stay there for 3 monthse.

          Until September 2021 and will engage in practicing spacewalks, conduct repairs along with scientific operations.

      The World Giving Index 2021 (WGI 2021) report released by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) has ranked India as the 14th most charitable country in the world (with a score of 44%) out of 114 countries.

      Indonesia topped the Index followed by Kenya & Nigeria.

      The WGI 2021 is based on the year 2020 and highlights the impact of lockdowns on charitable giving.

1. MOHI&PE MODIFIES FAME INDIA PHASE II SCHEME

          The Ministry of heavy industries and public enterprises(MoHI & PE) made partial modifications over the ‘Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India Phase II’ (FAME India Phase II) scheme, which began on 1 April 2019.

          The FAME scheme was administered by the department of heavy industries (DHI).

          MoHI & PE has decided for the aggregation of electric three-wheelers and electric buses component of the scheme via state run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), to bring down the cost of electric 3 Wheelers to that of ICE-3 Wheelers.

          Only 5 percent, or Rs 492 crore is spent out of the Rs 10,000 crore (budgetary allocated) till March 2021, hence the scheme is likely to be extended till 2024.

 

2.ANEMIA MUKT BHARAT INDEX 2020-21

          Madhya Pradesh with a score of 64.1 has been ranked 1st in the Anemia Mukt Bharat Index 2020-21.

          Odisha (59.3) came 2nd followed by Himachal Pradesh (57.1) in the 3rd position.

          The score card and rankings in Anemia Mukt Bharat Index are based on parameters like coverage of Iron–Folic Acid (IFA) supplementation across beneficiaries to support assessment of progress and performance of the programme.

 

3.ICAN REPORT

          As per the report of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), titled ‘Complicit: 2020 Global Nuclear Spending’, the worldwide Nuclear-armed countries’ overall spending on atomic weapon arsenals in 2020 was increased by $1.4 billion (1.2-billion-euro) to $72.6 billion from $71.2 billion of 2019.

          The 9 Nuclear-armed countries include The United States(US), China, Russia, The United Kingdom(UK), France, India, Israel, Pakistan, and North Korea.

          The 31st Edition of India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) (Bi-Annual) between the Indian Navy and Royal Thai Navy was conducted in the Andaman Sea.

          India & Thailand have been conducting the CORPAT Bi-Annual exercise along their International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) since 2005.

 

2. UNGA APPROVES DECLARATION TO END AIDS BY 2030

          During the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) High-Level Meeting (HLM) on HIV/AIDS; the assembly  approved a declaration to end AIDS by 2030.

          The declaration also committed assembly’s 193 member countries to implement.

          The 1st case of AIDS was reported in 1981, since then nearly 77.5 million people have been infected with HIV and nearly 35 million have died from AIDS.

 

3. GLOBAL HOME PRICE INDEX

          India was ranked 55th in the Global Home Price Index for the 1st Quarter (Q1) ie; January to March 2021, which is 12 spots lower than its Q1 ranking of 43rd in 2020.

          Global Home Price Index is prepared by the London-based Knight Frank, which monitors housing prices in 56 countries.

          The ranking was topped by Turkey with 32%  year-on-year (YoY) growth, followed by New Zealand and Luxembourg .
