GDP’S BASE YEAR CHANGED
Ø The
revision of the base year is to make easy for the government to meet its fiscal
deficit target
Ø The
base year is now 2011-12 from
2004-05 .The base year was revised in January 2010.

GOVERNMENT DIVESTED 10 PERCENT
STAKE IN COAL INDIA LIMITED
Ø Government
has fetched about Rs 22600 crore by
selling 10% stake in Coal India
Ø This
is the biggest ever share sale by any private or public sector company
Ø With
this, government’s share in CIL came down to 79.65 percent.

has paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 67th
death Anniversary
4) 18th NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON E-GOVERNANCE HELD IN GUJARAT
Ø 18th
National Conference on e-Governance was held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Ø The
main Theme of the Conference was Digital Governance – New Frontiers.
Ø The
focus sector was Skill Development & Employability.
Ø The
conference explored the benefits of the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
5) PAUL VAN ASS IS NEW COACH OF NATIONAL MEN’S HOCKEY TEAM
Ø Former
Dutch National Hockey team coach Paul van Ass appointed as the head Coach of
Indian men's hockey team.
Ø He
succeeded Terry Walsh of Australia.
Ø New
Zealand's Anthony Thornton was appointed as the coach of National women’s
hockey team.
Ø Van
Ass and Thornton were awarded a three-year contract till 2018. India will host
the 2018 men's Hockey World Cup.
6) RBI CONSTITUTED COMMITTEE ON URBAN COOPERATIVE BANKS
Ø
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
constituted a High Powered Committee to re-examine and recommend appropriate
set of businesses, size, conversion and licensing terms for the Urban
Cooperative Banking (UCB) Sector.
Ø
The eight-member committee will be
chaired by R Gandhi, the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India.
