NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMMUNICATING INDIA 2017 HELD IN NEW DELHI
i. The national
conference on Communicating India 2017 held in New Delhi.
ii. The conference was
organized by the Vivekananda International Foundation in collaboration with the
the Indian Institute of Mass Communication and India Media Centre, University
of Westminster, London, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library with the association
of Prasar Bharati.
iii. A day-long
conference was based on the three main themes: Telling India’s story to the
world, Communicating via Journalism and Dialogue with Diaspora.
iv. Union Minister
Venkaiah Naidu , Journalist Sanjay Baru , Jay Panda-Member of Parliament,
University of Westminster, London, Dr Daya Thussu-Professor of International
Communication are participated in the conference.
v. Venkaiah Naidu
highlights the importance of communication and also he adduce that PM Modi
using social platforms Twitter and Radio to share his thoughts with people.
i. In its ongoing efforts
to combat the problem of declining child sex ratio in the state, Haryana to
provide one-time grant of Rs. 21,000 to families for 3rd girl child was born
after August 24, 2015 under the currently operational ‘Aapki Beti Humari Beti’
scheme.
ii. As per this scheme,
the first girl child born in the families belonging to Scheduled Castes and Below
Poverty Line category will be eligible for a grant of Rs. 21000/-.
iii. Similarly, 2nd girl
child, twin or multiple girl child born on or after January 22, 2015 in any
family will also be eligible for a grant of Rs. 21000/- (per girl child).

GADKARI ANNOUNCES FIRST EXPRESS HIGHWAY PROJECT RS.40000 CR IN NORTHEAST
i. Shri Nitin Gadkari,
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping, has announced the
first North East Express Highway project
at the closing ceremony of the ‘Namami Brahmaputra’ festival.
ii. This 1300 Km highway
project will be implemented with an outlay of Rs 40,000 cr in Assam.
iii. The National
Highways Authority of India, Assam
government and the Inland Waterways of India have signed a tripartite agreement
to construct the highway in Assam along the banks of Brahmaputra.

INDIA AND UK ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL DIALOGUE HELD IN NEW DELHI
i. 9th UK-India Economic
and Financial Dialogue held in New Delhi which was led by Finance Minister Arun
Jaitley and Philip Hammond, UK Chancellor of the Exchequer.
ii. Its aim is to combat
cross border tax evasion, enhance cooperation in financial services and boost
investments by encouraging Indian companies to raise funds through masala
bonds.
iii. Finance Minister
Arun Jaitley announced that India and the UK have decided to set up Green
Growth Equity Fund to finance clean energy projects.
iv. This is considered as
sub-fund of National Infrastructure and Investment Fund and it will be raised
to 500 million pound.
v. India and UK have
agreed to work together to ensure effective implementation of the Financial
Action Task Force’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing
standards globally.
vi. Both the countries
have also agreed to set up a forum comprising representatives from the SEBI,
RBI, the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of England among others to share
experiences and best practices on issuance of green and masala bonds.

INDIA’S IS THE WORLD’S 7TH LARGEST TOURISM ECONOMY IN TERMS OF GDP: WTTC
i. According to a new
report released by World Travel and Tourism Council, India’s travel and tourism
sector ranks 7th in the world in terms of its total contribution to the
country’s Gross Domestic Product.
ii. WTTC has forecasted
7% growth for the sector in 2017. Visitor exports are expected to grow by 5.4%
in 2017.

ADITYA BIRLA GROUP GETS RBI LICENCE TO START PAYMENTS BANK
i. Aditya Birla Idea
Payments Bank Ltd. has become the 7th entity to receive a final licence from
Reserve Bank of India for carrying out the business of payments bank in India.
ii. Aditya Birla Idea
Payments Bank Ltd. will be launched in the first half of year 2017. Its
headquarters is in Mumbai.
iii. On 19th August 2015,
RBI gave “in-principle” licences to 11 entities to launch Payments bank.

JAPAN OFFICIALLY RECOGNISES BITCOIN AS CURRENCY FROM APRIL 2017
i. The currency of the
Internet, Biticoin and other digital currencies have recognised as a payment
method by Japan with effect from its new fiscal year.
ii. It was recognised
under new banking law of Japan but it is not a legally-recognized currency.
iii. Bitcoin exchanges
will come under additional regulatory scrutiny. They will be required to comply
with strict anti-money laundering and Know Your Customer requirements, along
with annual audits. Use of Bitcoin, other virtual currencies not authorised by
RBI, says Govt.
iv. Financial institution
can make Bitcoin exchange after registered with the government with the minimum
capital of 10 million yen.

PRITHIKA YASHINI FROM TAMIL NADU BECOME INDIA’S FIRST TRANSGENDER POLICE
OFFICER
i. Prithika Yashini’s
application for the police post was initially rejected and tried hard to become
the India’s 1st police officer from the transgender community.
iii. The Madras high
court has directed Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board to appoint a
transgender as sub-inspector of police.
iv. The 1st bench,
comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana,
also directed TNUSRB to include trans genders as a “third category” by the next
recruitment process is carried out.

NATIONAL MARITIME DAY OBSERVED ON APRIL 5 2017
i. 54th National Maritime
Day is celebrated on 5th April since 1964
to mark the day when the 1st voyage of the SS Loyalty, the 1st ship of
Scindia Steam Navigation Company towards United Kingdom from Mumbai.
ii. The special programme
was organised at various ports across India to highlight the importance of
maritime trade in the country.
iii. The maritime day
flag was hoisted at the ports and Port Trust chairman took salute of the Sail
Past.
