1.       BRICS 8TH LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT MINISTERS’ MEETING 2022

·         Union Minister BhupenderYadav, Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE), virtually attended the 8th BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting 2022 held under the Chinese Presidency in Beijing, China.

·         The Labour and Employment Ministers (LEMM) of the member countries Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) participated in the meeting.

·         The Code on Social Security, 2020, is one of the legislative initiatives emphasized, as it defines new types of workers, such as gig and platform workers, and the steps taken to offer social security benefits to such workers.

2.       RBI SURVEY ON REMITTANCES 

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducted the 5th round of the Survey on Remittances for the year 2020-21.

·         The United States (US) surpassed the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the top source country, accounting for 23% of total remittances in 2020-21.

·         As per it, the share of inward remittances from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region is estimated to have declined to about 30% in 2020- 21 amid COVID-19 induced economic stress.

·         India remained the top recipient country, accounting for 12% of total global remittances

·         Maharashtra has emerged as the top recipient state surpassing Kerala.

 

3.       FORBES BILLIONAIRES LIST

·         Indian industrialist  GautamAdani with a net worth of over USD 114 billion secured the fourth rank on the Forbes’ Real-Time Ranking of the World’s Billionaires list.

·         He surpassed  Microsoft founder Bill Gates, fifth rank with  an estimated USD 102 billion net worth.

·         Gautam Adani’s net worth wealth has more than doubled from USD 50 billion in 2021 to more than USD 112.9 billion in 2022.

·         Elon Musk with USD 230 billion net worth secured the first rank on the Forbes’ list, became the richest person.

 

4.       JC DANIEL AWARD 2021

·         Malayalam Filmmaker KP Kumaran has been chosen for the JC Daniel Award 2021, Kerala’s highest film award, for his comprehensive contribution to the Malayalam film industry.

·         KP Kumaran made his debut in 1975 with Athithi.

·         He won the National Award for Best feature film in Malayalam for “Rugmini” in 1989

 

5.       ENGLAND’S BEN STOKES ANNOUNCED RETIREMENT FROM ODI CRICKET

·         English cricketer, 31-year-old Ben Stokes (full name: Benjamin Andrew Stokes), Captain of the England Test team, has announced his retirement from the One Day Internationals(ODIs) format

·         He played his 105th and final ODI against South Africa in Durham.

 

6.       1ST INDIAN STATE TO CONNECT ALL REGISTERED COMMERCIAL VEHICLES WITH ERSS

·         Himachal Pradesh has become the first Indian state to connect all registered commercial vehicles equipped with Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) with Emergency Response Support System (ERSS).

·         These vehicles can be tracked anywhere in India through VLTD.

·         The Vehicle Location Tracking Device with Emergency Panic Button System and Command Control Center has been connected with Emergency Response Support System 112.

·         ERSS is a Government of India (GoI) initiative to integrate an emergency response system with a single emergency number 112, to address different emergencies of citizens. 

·         ERSS address all emergency signals received from citizens through voice call, SMS, e-mail, panic SOS signal, ERSS web portal etc.

·         A mobile App called ‘112 India’ is introduced by Govt. of India, to quickly raise a request for help when a person is in emergency, by pressing a button to send alert messages with location data and make emergency call to 112.

·         Previous emergency numbers like 100 (police), 101 (Fire and Rescue) and 108 (ambulance), 181 (Woman and Child Care) etc. are integrated with the unified number 112.

 

7.       INDIA BIOECONOMY REPORT 2022

·         According to the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council’s (BIRAC) report titled, India Bio Economy Report 2022, India’s bioeconomy is likely to touch USD 150 billion by 2025 and over USD 300 billion by 2030.

·         The report was released by the Minister of Science and Technology (S&T), Jitendra Singh.

·         As per the report, India’s bioeconomy has reached over USD 80 billion in 2021, calculating a growth of 14.1 percent to USD 70.2 billion in 2020.

·         India is among the top 3 countries of South Asia and top 12 destinations for bio technology in the world by holding around 3 percent share in the global biotechnology industry.

 

8.       HENLEY PASSPORT INDEX 2022

·         According to the “Henley Passport Index 2022” released by Henley & Partners, an immigration consultancy based in London (United Kingdom), The Japanese passport, the world’s most powerful passport, grants hassle-free access into 193 countries.

·         The Second place is shared by Singapore and South Korea with access to 192 nations.

·         India’s passport ranked at number 87 and grants visa-free access to 60 countries, including Macau, Bhutan, Nepal, and Indonesia.

·         According to the Henley Passport Index 2022, Pakistan’s passport is the fourth-worst in the world, one rank below Yemen and three ranks above Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.

 

9.       RBI STIPULATES 4-TIER REGULATORY STRUCTURE FOR UCBS

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) prescribed the four-tier regulatory structure with differentiated regulatory prescriptions for urban cooperative banks (UCBs) to strengthen their financial resilience, and to enhance their ability to fund their growth.

·         RBI has stipulated a minimum net worth of Rs 2 crore for Tier-I UCBs operating in a single district and Rs 5 crore for all other UCBs of all tiers.

·         The RBI imposed restrictions on the following three cooperative banks due to their poor liquidity position:

·         NashikZilla Girna Sahakari Bank Limited, Nashik (Maharashtra)

·         Sri Mallikarjuna Pattana Sahakari Bank Niyamita, Maski (Karnataka)

·         Raigad Sahakari Bank Limited, Mumbai (Maharashtra)

 

10.    WORLD CHESS DAY 2022 – JULY 20

·         The United Nations (UN)’s World Chess Day or International Chess Day is annually observed across the globe on 20th July to recognise the important role of chess as an affordable and inclusive activity.

·         Since 1966, as an initiative of FIDE, the 20th July has been observed as International Chess Day by Chess players across the globe.
