1.       GOI LAUNCHES NRCP FOR PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF RABIES

·         The Government of India (GoI) launched the National Rabies Control Programme (NRCP) for rabies prevention and control.

·         National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), released the NRCP strategies, which are

·         Provision of rabies vaccine & rabies immunoglobulin throughnational free drug initiatives

·         Training on appropriate animal bite management, prevention and control of rabies, surveillance and intersectoral coordination.

·         Strengthening surveillance of animal bites and rabies deaths reporting

·         Creating awareness about rabies prevention

·         TheMoHFW and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying jointly launched the “National Action Plan for Dog-Mediated Rabies Elimination (NAPRE) from India by 2030.”

·         Rabies is a vaccine-preventable, zoonotic, viral disease affecting the central nervous system. 

·         Dogs are the main source of human rabies deaths, contributing up to 99% of all rabies transmissions to humans.

·         It spreads to people and animals via saliva, usually through bites, scratches or direct contact with mucosa (e.g. eyes, mouth or open wounds).

 

2.       RAJASTHAN BECAME INDIA’S 1ST STATE TO GUARANTEE RIGHT TO HEALTH

·         Rajasthan Assembly had cleared a bill named ‘Right to Health’ (which was passed in September 2022), becoming the first state in India to do so.

·         The ‘Right to Health’, gives every resident of the state the right to avail free Out Patient Department (OPD) services and In Patient Department (IPD) services at all public health facilities.

·         It also provides similar healthcare services (free of cost) at select private facilities.

·         Allresidents of the state will be entitled to emergency treatment and care for accidental emergency without prepayment of any fee or charges.

·         In case of medico-legal nature, no public or private hospital can delay treatment on the grounds of receiving police clearance.

3.       PANEL ON PENSION SCHEMES

·         The Government of India (GoI) has decided to form a committee led by Finance Secretary TV Somanathan to recommend ways to reform the National Pension System (NPS) for government employees.

·         The action is being taken against a backdrop of a number of states abandoning the NPS and returning to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for their employees.

·         Old Pension Scheme (OPS) Vs National Pension System (NPS)

·         After retirement, the OPS provides employees with a fixed pension equivalent to 50% of their last drawn salary.

·         The NPS is an investment-cum pension programme.Contributions to the NPS are invested in securities such as debt and equity instruments.

 

4.       FORBES INDIA LEADERSHIP AWARDS 2023

·         IshaAmbani, the Chairperson of Reliance Retail, the retail unit of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), won the GenNext Entrepreneur Award at the Forbes India Leadership Awards 2023 at, Mumbai.

·         A M Naik, Group Chairman of Larsen and Toubro Ltd.(L&T), received the FILA 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award.

·         Oscar-winning filmmaker (2023- The Elephant Whisperers) GuneetMonga and Dr Rajiv J Shah, President of the Rockefeller Foundation, bagged the award of ‘Icon of Excellence’.

·         Entrepreneur of the Year- AbhaySoi, Chairman and Managing Director(CMD) of Max Healthcare Institute Limited.

 

5.       PRESIDENT OF NEW DEVELOPMENT BANK

·         The Board of Governors of the  New Development Bank (NBD), formerly referred to as the BRICS(Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Development Bank, unanimously elected former President of Brazil Dilma Vana Rousseff as the President of the NDB with an immediate effect.

·         Dilma Rousseff will be president of the BRICS’s New Development Bank until 2025.

6.       INTERNATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE OF THE VICTIMS OF SLAVERY -MARCH 25

·         United Nations (UN)’s International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade is annually observed across the globe on March 25 to honour and remember those who suffered and died as a consequence of the transatlantic slave trade.

·         Theme “Fighting slavery’s legacy of racism through transformative education”.

 

7.        ‘PRESIDENT’S STANDARDS’ TO 4 ARMOURED REGIMENTS

·         General ManojPande, the Chief of Army Staff, presented the prestigious ‘President’s Standards’ (Nishan) 49 Armoured Regiment, 51 Armoured Regiment, 53 Armoured Regiment, and 54 Armoured Regiment, of the Indian Army during the Standards Presentation Parade held at Suratgarh Military Station in Rajasthan.

·         The Armoured Corps is one of the Indian Army’s top combat units.

·         Following the formation of the 1st regiment in 1776, the present corps was formed in 1947 from two-thirds of the personnel and assets of the Indian Armoured Corps of the British Indian Army.

·         Currently, Armoured Corps consists of 67 armoured regiments, including the President’s Bodyguards.

 

8.       M3M HURUN GLOBAL RICH LIST

·         According to the ‘2023 M3M Hurun Global Rich List,’  India is ranked 3rd in terms of the number of self-made billionaires, with a total of 105 on the list.

·         According to the “2023 M3M Hurun Global Rich List,” 24 Indian cities or towns have “produced” 187 billionaires, placing Mumbai (Maharashtra), New Delhi (Delhi), and Bengaluru (Karnataka) among the top 25 global cities producing the most billionaires.

·         India is ranked 6th in the world in terms of the number of cities from which billionaires originate.

 

9.       NEW CHIEF JUSTICE OF 3 HIGH COURTS

·         The Chief Justice and Judges of the High Courts are to be appointed by the President under clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution.

10.    ISRO SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHES 36 ONEWEB GEN-1 SATELLITES

·         The Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) successfully launched ‘LVM3-M3 OneWeb India-2 Mission’ from the Second Launch Pad (SLP) at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) Sriharikota Range (SHAR) in Andhra Pradesh (AP).

·         Under this, ISRO launched its heaviest rocket, LVM3 (Launch Vehicle Mark Three) carrying 36 OneWeb Gen-1 satellites with a total payload of 5,805 kg. 

·         These satellites belong to London, United Kingdom (UK)-based OneWeb Group.

·         In 2022, NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), ISRO’s commercial arm signed a contract with OneWeb to launch 72 satellites in 2 phases.

·         LVM3 was earlier known as the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle MkIII (GSLVMkIII) with a cryogenic upper stage.

 

11.    WORLD WOMEN’S BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP

·         India topped the medal tally of the 2023 International Boxing Association (IBA) Women’s World Boxing Championships (WWBC), the 13th edition of the championships, with 4 gold medals.

·         The 13th edition of the WWBC was hosted by India in New Delhi

·         China secured the 2nd position in the medal tally with 7 medals (3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze) and Russia secured the 3rd position with 3 medals (1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze).

·         NituGhanghas grabbed gold medal in Minimumweight (48Kg) event by defeating Mongolia’s LutsaikhanAltantsetseg. She became the 6th Indian boxer, male or female, to become a world champion.

·         This event was boycotted by 17 countries due to the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus.

12.    WPL 2023

·         Mumbai Indians(MI) team captained by Harmanpreet Kaur(India) defeated the Delhi Capitals(DC) Meghann(Meg) Lanning (Australia) to win the inaugural TATA Women’s Premier League(WPL) 2023 championship.

·         MI defeated DC by 7 wickets in the finals

·         The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) is the body responsible for the operation of the WPL.

·         All 22 matches of the tournament took place in Mumbai.
