KERALA TOPPED UNEMPLOYMENT RATE
·
Ministry of Statistics and Programme
Implementation (MoSPI) released the latest Periodic Labour
Force Survey (PLFS) for 15-29 year age group for January-March,
2024 Quarter for FY24(2023-24).
·
As per PLFS, Kerala topped youth
unemployment rate among 15-29 age group at 31.8% for Q4
(Jan-March) FY24.
·
While, Delhi registered the lowest
unemployment rate among 15-29 age group at 3.1% for Q4
FY24, followed by Gujarat(9%), Haryana (9.5%), among others.
·
The data showed that unemployment rate
for 15-29 age group has increased from 16.5% (October-December,
2023) to 17% (January-March,2024).
·
Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) registered
the highest unemployment rate for women at 48.6% for Q4
FY24.

FRENCH MILITARY JOINT EXERCISE 'SHAKTI

The Indian and French
armies are actively participating in the 7th edition of the
Joint Exercise Shakti.

REPORT - 'WATER FOR SHARED PROSPERITY'
·
The World Bank report, titled “Water
for Shared Prosperity,” was released at the 10th World Water Forum
in Bali, Indonesia.

In 2022, 2.2 billion people lacked access
to safely managed drinking water services, while 3.5 billion lacked access to
safely managed sanitation.
·
Over 800 million people globally are at
high risk of drought, with double that number living in flood-prone areas.
·
The Democratic Republic of the
Congo holds over half of Africa’s total water resources.
·
World Water Forum is held every three
years.
·
The first forum took place in took place

RATRE, 55, BECOMES THE OLDEST INDIAN WOMAN TO CONQUER MOUNT EVEREST

Jyoti Ratre, an entrepreneur and
fitness enthusiast from Madhya Pradesh, has become the oldest
Indian woman to conquer Mount Everest.
·
Jyoti Ratre conquered Mount Everest as
part of a 15-member expedition team of 8K Expeditions, led by Bolivian climber
David Hugo Ayaviri Quispe.

COMMITTEE TO TACKLE INCREASING
CYBERCRIMES ORIGINATING FROM SE ASIAN REGION

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) constituted
a inter-ministerial committee of various law enforcement and intelligence
agencies to tackle the increasing organised cybercrimes originating from
South-East (SE) Asian countries like: Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos
PDR.
·
SE Asian region accounted for 45% of cyber
financial frauds taking place in India.
·
The high-powered committee is chaired
by VSK Kaumudi, Special Secretary (internal security) in the
Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
·
Around 3.25 lakh “mule” accounts
have been frozen over the last 4 months.
·
Mule accounts are those accounts
which are used for laundering cybercrime funds by using Know Your
Customer (KYC), and others.

‘EX CYBER SURAKSHA 2024’ FOR
ADVANCING CYBER DEFENCE CAPABILITIES

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen
Anil Chauhan attended ‘Exercise Cyber Suraksha 2024’,
highlighting the critical importance of enhancing India’s cyber defence
capabilities.

The exercise has been conducted by the
Defence Cyber Agency in New Delhi (Delhi), aiming to develop Cyber
Defence Capability of all Cyber security organisations and promote cooperation
amongst all stakeholders.

HIGHEST-PAID CEO IN THE US FOR 2023

According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ)’s
list of the highest-paid Chief Executive Officers (CEOs)
in the United States of America (USA) for 2023. Indian-origin
Nikesh Arora, chairman and CEO of Palo Alto
Networks became the world’s 2nd highest-paid CEO in 2023 with
a substantial remuneration of USD 151.43 million (approximately Rs 1,260
crore).

Hock E. Tan,
President and CEO of Broadcom Inc., is the world’s
highest-paid CEO with a pay package of USD 161.83 million in 2023.
·
WSJ’s analysis ranked 415 CEOs of
S&P 500 companies, by their total compensation, which
included cash and equity awards.
·
The S&P 500, formally known as the
Standard & Poor’s 500 Composite Stock Price Index, is a stock index that
tracks the share prices of 500 of the largest public companies in the US.
·
Tech giants like Tesla’s Elon Musk and
Alphabet’s Sundar Pichai opted for non-traditional compensation
structures in 2023.

Shantanu Narayen,
Chair and CEO of Adobe closely follows Arora, ranking 11th with
a total compensation of USD 44.93 million in earnings.

UK’S ROYAL AWARD IN LONDON
·
Arti a rickshaw
driver from Uttar Pradesh (UP) has won the
prestigious Amal Clooney Women’s Empowerment Award at the Prince’s
Trust Awards, an event that celebrates the achievements of young
people from around the world in London, United Kingdom (UK).

She has also met King Charles III at
Buckingham Palace, London, UK, after winning the award.
·
The award is given in recognition for
her role in inspiring other young girls through her involvement in the
Indian government’s Pink E-rickshaw initiative.
·
Pink E-Rickshaw Initiative is
an initiative which was launched as part of the Mission Shakti
scheme by the Indian government.
·
Under this initiative, the pink
e-rickshaws with a subsidy were offered for female drivers.
·
Arti first introduced to the Pink
E-Rickshaw program by the Indian government in July 2023 through Project
Lehar, which was run in collaboration with Prince’s Trust International and

Nations (UN)’s World Football Day was observed across

the 100th anniversary of the 1924 Olympic Football Tournament
held in Paris, France.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)
adopted the resolution A/RES/78/281, proclaiming the 25th May of

NSE LOWERED TICK SIZE TO 1 PAISA FOR
STOCK PRICE BELOW RS 250
·
National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) announced
that it has lowered the tick size for all stocks from 5paisa (at
present) to 1 paisa for securities priced below Rs
250 in the cash segment.
·
The main objective
for this new tick size is to enhance liquidity and improve price discovery by
allowing more granular price adjustments.
·
Tick Size is
the minimum price increment between two consecutive bid (Buy) and
offer (Sell) prices.
·
For example: if a stock size has a tick
size of Rs 0.10 or 10 paisa and the Last Traded Price
(LTP) was Rs 200, then the next possible bid prices would be Rs 199.90,
199.80, 199.70, 199.60 and so on. In this case, the bid price cannot be Rs
199.86 as it does not meet the tick size requirement of Rs 0.10.
16. SOUTH
AFRICAN RESERVE BANK FINES SBI BRANCH OVER COMPLIANCE
·
The Prudential Authority of the South
African Reserve Bank (SARB), the central bank of South Africa
(SA), has imposed a financial penalty of 10 million rand (Rs
4.5 crore) on the State Bank of India (SBI)’s SA branch for
violating anti-money laundering laws in SA.
·
The financial penalty consists of an immediately
payable portion of 5.50 million rand(Rs 2.5 crore), which the bank has already
paid.
·
The remaining 4.50 million rand (Rs 2
crore) is suspended for 36 months, and will be paid within the prescribed
timeline.

LAUNCHES SMALL CLIMATE SATELLITE PREFIRE
·
National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) successfully launched the first pair of
small climate satellites atop the Rocket Lab’s Electron
rocket from Launch Complex 1 in Māhia, New Zealand.
·
The mission, dubbed PREFIRE (Polar
Radiant Energy in the Far-InfraRed Experiment) mission, aims to study heat
emissions at the Earth’s poles for NASA.
·
The mission consists of two shoebox-sized CubeSats,
equipped with thermal infrared spectrometer capable of measuring the
far-infrared radiation emitted by the Earth’s coldest and most remote regions –
the Arctic and Antarctic.

25. RBI UNCLAIMED BANK DEPOSITS
DATA
·
According to the data released by
the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), As of December 2022, unclaimed
balances across various accounts, including current, savings, and fixed
deposits (FDs), reached Rs 39,900 crore, marking a substantial
increase from Rs 18,379 crore recorded in December 2019.
·
By March 2023, unclaimed
monies held solely by these banks amounted to Rs 42,270 crore,
despite concerted efforts through technological initiatives and public
awareness campaigns.
·
Unclaimed Deposits are Balances
in savings / current accounts which are not operated for 10 years, or
term deposits not claimed within 10 years from date of maturity are
classified as “Unclaimed Deposits”.
·
These amounts are transferred by banks to
the “Depositor Education and Awareness” (DEA) Fund maintained by
the Reserve Bank of India.
·
Public sector banks hold
the majority share of unclaimed deposits at Rs 33,303 crore,
representing 83% of the total unclaimed funds as of December 2022.
·
State Bank of India (SBI) holds Rs
8,069 crore across 2.16 crore unclaimed accounts.
·
To tackle this, RBI also launched an online
portal UDGAM (Unclaimed Deposits-Gateway to Access Information) last
year to help users search for unclaimed deposits across multiple banks in a
centralised manner.
·
As of March 2024, 30 banks are
part of UDGAM, hosting information on unclaimed monies.
26. "FINCARE SMALL FINANCE BANK LIMITED"
CEASES BANKING OPERATIONS
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) informed
that "Fincare Small Finance Bank Limited" has been excluded
from the Second Schedule to the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934 with
effect from April 01, 2024, as the bank has ceased to carry on
banking business with effect from April 01, 2024.
·
The RBI approved the merger of Fincare
Small Finance Bank Ltd with AU Small Finance Bank Ltd.
·
Scheduled banks are listed in the second
schedule of the RBI Act, 1934.
·
These banks are required to have a minimum
paid-up capital of at least Rs 5 lakhs.
·
Scheduled banks include both scheduled
cooperative banks and scheduled commercial banks.
·
Scheduled commercial banks encompass urban
cooperative banks and state cooperative banks among other
non-similar groups.
27. SRI SRI RAVI SHANKAR HAS BEEN AWARDED THE FIRST
STAMP IN SRI LANKA.
