1. ‘IGLA-S’ SHOULDER-FIRED
AIR DEFENCE MISSILES
·
The Indian Army (IA) has
received fresh batch of the Russian-origin ‘Igla-S missiles’, are
portable, shoulder-fired weapons, designed to neutralize low-flying threats
such as helicopters, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and low-speed aircraft,
especially in forward areas and mountainous terrain.

These missiles have been procured as part
of an Rs 260 crore contract signed by the
Government of India (GoI) under the emergency procurement powers.
·
It
is capable of engaging targets maximum 6 kilometer (km) away and at altitudes
of maximum 3.5 km.
2. INDIA-MALDIVES HADR EXERCISE
·
Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sharda arrived
at Maafilaafushi Atoll in Maldives to participate in
the inaugural Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR)
exercise
·
The
HADR exercise aims to enhance interoperability between the Indian Navy (IN)
and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
3. MIAMI GRAND PRIX
·
Oscar Piastri, an Australian
Formula One (F1) driver of McLaren clinched his
fourth win of the 2025 F1 season at the Miami Grand
Prix (GP) USA.
4. ROHIT SHARMA ANNOUNCES
RETIREMENT
·
Indian cricketer Rohit Gurunath Sharma announced
his retirement from Test cricket,
with immediate effect.
·
He will continue representing India in One
Day Internationals (ODIs).
·
He
played 67 tests, scoring 4,301 runs at
an average of 40.57, with 12 centuries and 18 fifties.
·
In 2020, he was conferred with
the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award (formerly
Rajiv Gandhi KhelRatna Award), the highest sporting honour in India.
5. BWF SUDIRMAN CUP 2025
·
The People’s Republic of
China secured its 14th BWF (Badminton
World Federation) Sudirman Cup title and
achieved a record fourth consecutive victory by defeating South
Korea 3-1 in the final of the 19th edition of the BWF Sudirman
Cup (2025) mixed-team championship.
·
The championship organized by the BWF,
was held in Xiamen, Fujian Province, People’s
Republic of China.
·
India did not advance to the quarter-finals,
finishing 9th among the 16 participating
teams.
·
It
is held every two years and is
considered one of the premier mixed-team
events in badminton, alongside the Thomas
Cup (men’s team) and the Uber Cup
(women’s team).
·
The
only winners are China (14 titles), South Korea (4 titles), and Indonesia (1
title).

6. RBI IMPOSES RS 2.52 CRORE PENALTY ON
FIVE MAJOR BANKS
·
RBI imposed monetary penalties totalling Rs 2.52 crore on
five major Indian banks
·
ICICI Bank Limited faced the highest fine of Rs
97.80 lakh due to multiple violations Failure to report a cybersecurity
incident within the RBI’s stipulated time.Charging late payment
fees on credit card holders without issuing credit
card statements
·
BoB was fined Rs 61.40 lakh for
Allowing insurance companies to offer non-cash incentives to
employees involved in selling insurance policies, in violation of RBI norms on
banking and financial services and Failing to credit interest to certain inoperative
or dormant savings accounts at the required
intervals, violating RBI’s customer service guidelines.
·
BoM was penalised Rs 31.80 lakh for
non-compliance with KYC regulations, particularly for opening multiple deposit
accounts using Aadhaar One-Time Password (OTP)-based e-KYC in
a non-face-to-face mode, without following RBI’s prescribed procedures.
·
IDBI Bank Limited was fined Rs 31.80 lakh for
violations under the Interest Subvention Scheme (ISS) for
short-term agricultural loans through Kisan Credit Card (KCC).
·
Axis Bank Limited was fined Rs 29.60 lakh for
routing unauthorised and unrelated
transactions through internal/office accounts, which is against
RBI’s operational norms.
7. SEBI SETS RS
1 CRORE MINIMUM INVESTMENT FOR SECURITISED DEBT INSTRUMENTS

Securities and Exchange Board of
India (SEBI) has mandated minimum investment threshold or ticket size of Rs
1 crore for the issuance of Securitised Debt Instruments (SDIs) for
the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)-regulated originators and unregulated entities
engaged in securitization activities.
·
It is now mandatory to have at least 3-year operating experience for originators.
·
SEBI
has clarified that for originators which are not regulated by RBI, the minimum
investment threshold for subsequent transfers will be Rs 1 crore.
8. WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY 2025 – MAY 3
·
The theme for
World Press Freedom Day 2025 is “Reporting
in the Brave New World – The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press
Freedom and the Media”
·
In 2025, UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom
Prize have been named to La Prensa, a Managua (Nicaragua)-based
newspaper
·
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) released the World Press Freedom Index (WPFI) 2025, evaluating
press freedom across 180 countries.
·
The index is topped by Norway and India improved its
position to 151st
9. WORLD LAUGHTER DAY 2025 – MAY 4
·
The
theme of WLD 2025 is “Laugh for Health, Peace and
Happiness”
·
The
first World Laughter Day event held outside India, titled “HAPPY-DEMIC,”
took place on January 9, 2000, in Copenhagen, Denmark,
where over 10,000 people gathered at Town Hall Square, earning a place in
the Guinness Book of World Records for the
largest-ever laughter session.
10. WORLD RED CROSS AND RED CRESCENT DAY
2025 – MAY 8
·
World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is
annually observed across the globe on May 8 to honor
the principles and humanitarian efforts of the International Red Cross and
Red Crescent Movement.
·
The theme for World Red Cross and Red Crescent
Day 2025 is “Keeping Humanity Alive”.
·
The
day commemorates the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant,
who was the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
11. BOOK-THE UNDYING LIGHT
·
Gopalkrishna Gandhi released his memoir titled “The
Undying Light: A Personal History of Independent India.”
·
The
memoir starts with a deeply personal recollection of Mahatma
Gandhi’s assassination, witnessed by the author when he was just three
years old.
·
GopalkrishnaDevadas
Gandhi is the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi
and C. Rajagopalachari, India’s last
Governor-General.
·
He
served as the Governor of West Bengal (WB)
from 14 December 2004 to 14 December 2009.
