1.       BANKING LAWS (AMENDMENT) ACT 2025

·         The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has announced new guidelines under the Banking Laws (Amendment) Act, 2025, which would provide depositors more flexibility and control over nominations for bank deposit accounts, lockers, and assets held in safe custody.

·         The provisions under Sections 10, 11, 12, and 13 of the Banking Laws (Amendment) Act, 2025 are set to come into effect from 1st November 2025.

·         Customers may nominate up to four persons, either simultaneously or successively.

·         Depositors may opt for either simultaneous or successive nominations, as per their preference.

·         Nomination for Articles in Safe Custody and Safety Lockers: For such facilities, only successive nominations are permitted.

·         Simultaneous Nomination: Depositors may nominate up to four persons and specify the share or percentage of entitlement for each nominee, ensuring that the total equals 100 percent and enabling transparent distribution among all the nominees.

·         Successive Nomination: Individuals maintaining deposits, articles in safe custody, or lockers may specify up to four nominees, where the next nominee becomes operative only upon the death of the nominee placed higher, ensuring continuity in settlement and clarity of succession.

 

2.       U.S.A, SINGAPORE ACCOUNTED FOR ONE-THIRD OF FDI DURING FY25

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the provisional result of the 2024-25 round of the annual census on foreign liabilities and Assets (FLA).

·         As per the census, the United States of America (USA) and Singapore accounted for over one-third of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in India during 2024-25.

·         The other top sources included Mauritius, the United Kingdom (UK) and Netherlands.

·         In case of ODI also, Singapore, the United States and the United Kingdom were the top destinations.

·         Of the total FDI during 2024-25 was Rs 68,75,931 crore, the share of the US was 20 per cent, followed by Singapore (14.3 per cent), Mauritius (13.3 per cent), the UK (11.2 per cent) and the Netherlands (9 per cent).

·         In case of outward direct investment (Rs 11,66,790 crore), the share of Singapore was 22.2 per cent, followed by the US (15.4 per cent), the UK (12.8 per cent).

 

3.       ‘WORLD’S BEST CONSUMER BANK 2025’ AND ‘BEST BANK IN INDIA 2025

·         The State Bank of India (SBI) has been awarded the “World’s Best Consumer Bank 2025” and “Best Bank in India 2025” by Global Finance, a leading New York (NY) based publication.

·         With a customer base exceeding 520 million (mn), the SBI constitutes one of the largest consumer networks globally.

4.       WORLD POLIO DAY 2025 – OCTOBER 24

·         World Polio Day is observed on October 24 annually across the world to highlights global efforts to eradicate poliomyelitis (polio), a highly infectious disease caused by the poliovirus, which primarily affects children under five and attacks the nervous system.

·         2025 Theme: “End Polio: Every Child, Every Vaccine, everywhere”

·         World Polio Day was established by Rotary International (RI) to commemorate the birth anniversary of Jonas Salk, an American virologist who developed the first successful polio vaccines.

·         Oral Polio Vaccine(OPV): It was invented in 1962 by Albert Sabin.

·         Inactivated Polio Vaccine(IPV): It was invented in 1955 and is an injectable vaccine and can be either administered alone or along with other vaccines.

·         India was declared Polio free on 27th March 2014 by the WHO.

 

5.       INFANTRY DAY 2025 – OCTOBER 27

·         The India Army’s (IA) Infantry Day is annually observed across India on October 27 to commemorate the contributions of Infantry in maintaining the sovereignty and security of the nation.

·         On October 27, 1947, the 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment led byLieutenant (Lt) Colonel (Col) Dewan Ranjit Rai landed at Srinagar Airpor following Maharaja Hari Singh’s request for aid against Pakistani tribal invaders.

·         The infantry arm is the oldest and largest combat arm of the Indian Army; its role and traditions trace back to the British Indian Army and pre-independence time.

6.       WORLD SIGHT DAY 2025 – OCTOBER 9

·         World Sight Day (WSD), also known as World Eye Day or World Vision Day, is observed annually on the Second Thursday of October across the globe to focus global attention on blindness, visual impairment, and the importance of eye health.

·         2025 Theme: “Love Your Eyes”.

 

7.       WORLD STROKE DAY 2025 – OCTOBER 29

·         World Stroke Day (WSD) is observed annually across the globe on 29 October to raise awareness about stroke prevention, early recognition, and rehabilitation.

·         2025 Theme: “Every Minute Counts”.

·         WSD was first established during the World Stroke Congress held in Vancouver, Canada, in 2004.
A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is blocked or reduced, causing brain cell damage or death without quick treatment.

·         Types: There are 2 main types of stroke, ischemic and haemorrhagic.

·         Ischemic: Blood clot blocks brain flow (≈85% of cases).

·         Hemorrhagic: Brain bleeding from a ruptured vessel.

·         World Stroke Organisation (WSO) Headquarters– Geneva, Switzerland.

 

8.       VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK 2025 – OCTOBER 27 – NOVEMBER 2

·         Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW), led by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), is commemorated annually throughout India during the week coinciding with the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (on 31st October), to promote integrity, transparency, and vigilance against corruption.

·         2025 Theme: “Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility”.

·         Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) The CVC, established in 1964 on the recommendations of the Santhanam Committee, is an independent apex body that promotes integrity, transparency, and accountability in public administration.

·         It functions autonomously and reports only to Parliament, not to any Ministry or Department.

·         Central Vigilance Commissioner – Praveen Kumar Srivastava.

·         Headquarters – New Delhi.

 

9.       NATIONAL UNITY DAY (RASHTRIYA EKTA DIWAS) 2025 – OCTOBER 31 

·         National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is observed on 31 October to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the “Iron Man of India.”

·         31 October 2025 marks the 150th birth anniversary of SardarVallabhbhai Patel.

 

10.    WORLD CITIES DAY 2025 – OCTOBER 31

·         The United Nations’ World Cities Day (WCD), observed annually across the globe on October 31 to raise awareness about urbanization, foster international cooperation, and promote sustainable urban development.

·         2025 Theme: “People-Centred Smart Cities”General Theme: “Better City, Better Life”, which remains constant for every year.

·         The Global Observance of WCD 2025 is being held in, Bogota, Colombia.
