Ø  8th March is celebrated as International Women’s Day throughout the globe.
Ø  International Women’s Day was first celebrated on 19th March in the year 1911 but since 1914, it is celebrated on 8th March.

Ø  President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee presented the Award to 6 Women for their distinguished services for the upliftment of Women.
Ø  6 Women who are recipients of 6 different Awards are:-
·         Rani Gaidinliu Zealing Award : Sister Mariola (Rajasthan)
·         Rani Laxmibai Award : Seema Prakash (Madhya Pardesh)
·         Rani Rudramma Devi Award : Astha Sansthan NGO (Rajasthan)
·         Mata Jijabai Award : chandraprabha Bokey (Maharashtra)
·         Kannagi Award : P. Bhanumati (Kerela)
·         Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Award : Anay Rahit Zindagi – NGO (Goa)
Note: - Stree Shakti Award was instituted in 1991 by the Government of India and is given in 6 different Categories to individual women for their exceptional achievement. The Award is organized by the Ministry of Woman and Child Development and conferred by the President of India. The Award carries a Cash prize of Rs. 3 lacs and a citation.

3.     SANGAKKARA ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM TEST CRICKET :
