1. BHEL
COMMISSIONED 520 MW VIZAG THERMAL POWER PLANT IN ANDHRA PRADESH
i. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited commissioned
the first unit of the 520 MW Vizag
thermal power project in Andhra Pradesh.
ii. The project is located on the coast of the Bay
of Bengal and uses single flow condenser and sea water as main cooling water.
2. ANIL AMBANI
LED RELIANCE GROUP SIGNED MOU TO SET UP NAVAL FACILITY IN VISHAKHAPATNAM
i. Reliance Defence Limited signed a memorandum
of understanding with Andhra Pradesh
Government to set up a world class naval facility in the state.
ii. The Memorandum of understanding was announced
at Andhra Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam.
3. KULLU’S
NATI FOLK DANCE ENTERED GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS
i. The Nati
folk dance of Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh was listed in the Guinness
Book of World Records as the largest folk dance in the world.
ii. Nati entered in the book as the largest folk
dance in terms of participants’ number.
iii. Total 9892 women participated in this folk
dance in their traditional colourful Kulluvi
on International Dussehra festival.
4. GOVERNMENT CONSTITUTES ARVIND PANAGARIYA
COMMITTEE TO FAST-TRACK BULLET TRAIN PROJECT
i. Union Government has constituted a committee
to fast track the Mumbai-Ahmadabad High-Speed Rail Corridor project for
connecting two cities with bullet trains.
ii. The committee is tasked to interact with the
Japanese counterpart for taking further steps in implementation of Mumbai-Ahmadabad
High-Speed Rail Corridor.
iii. The committee will be headed by Arvind Panagariya, vice-chairman of the
NITI Aayog .
5. CONSTRO 2016 TO FOCUS ON 'SMART CITY' CONCEPT
i. The 2016 Constro exhibition will be held in
Pune from January 14th to January 17th.
ii. The Exhibition will focus on the Smart City
concept.
iii. The exhibition is organised by the Pune
Construction Engineering Research
iv. The Theme of the ‘Constro 2016’ will be 'Emerging Technologies for Smart City’ and
‘Skill Development'.”
6. BALKRISHNA
GARG CONFERRED WITH 2015 HARIKRISHNA DEVSARE BAALSAHITYA AWARD
i. Hindi poet Balkrishna Garg was honoured with the 2015 Harikrishna Devsare
Baalsahitya Award in New Delhi.
ii. He received the award for his Baa Geet collection of poems for
children.
iii. The award was started in the memory of Hindi
writer Harikrishna Devsare known for
his work in the field of children’s literature, who died in 2013.
7. NEPAL ELECTED AS UNICEF’S EXECUTIVE BOARD
MEMBER FOR 2016-2018
i. Nepal was elected to the UNICEF executive
board for the term 2016-2018.
ii. The United Nations Children's Fund is a United
Nations program that provides long-term humanitarian and developmental
assistance to children and mothers in developing countries.
iii. UNICEF was founded by the United Nations
General Assembly on 1946.
iv. The main aim of the fund is to provide
emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated
by World War II.
8. PREMJI MOST GENEROUS INDIAN AND MUKESH RANKS
SIXTH
i. According to the Hurun India Philanthropy list is topped by Azim Hashim Premji and named
as the most generous Indian.
ii. The second place was grabbed by Nandan Nilekani and followed by Narayana Murthy.
iii. Mukesh
Ambani of Reliance Industries was ranked sixth in the List.
iv. It
is the List of the most generous individuals from the country.
