1.
THREE-DAY MODI FEST BEGINS IN ANDHRA PRADESH
i.
The three-day festival Making of Developed India fest was launched in Andhra
Pradesh. It begins to celebrate the successful completion of the 3-year rule by
the Modi government.
ii.
The festival was inaugurated by former minister K. Lakshminarayana. The
festival would be held in three phases in three districts of Andhra Pradesh, at
Government Ghantasala Music College in Vijayawada, Gokul Park, Ramakrishna
Beach in Visakhapatnam and at Ambedkar Bhawan, Rajvihar Circle in Kurnool.
iii.
The schemes were launched for the benefit of the common man, the youth, the
farming community and especially the women for their empowerment in the society
with the theme ‘sabka saath sabka vikas‘.
2.
PM NARENDRA MODI VISIT TO GERMANY, SPAIN, RUSSIA AND FRANCE – OVERVIEW
i.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook a 4-nation tour of Germany,
Spain, Russia and France with an aim to strengthen relations with these
countries and highlight India as a potential investment destination.
ii.
PM Modi participates in Indo-German inter-governmental consultations and India
and Germany inks 12 Pacts.
iii.
As a part of his 4-nation tour, PM Modi reached Spain on May 31. He thereby
became 1st Indian PM to visit Spain in nearly 30 years after former PM Rajiv
Gandhi visited Spain in year 1988. India and Spain inks 7 Agreements.
iv.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended 18th Indo-Russia Annual Summit in St.
Petersberg, Russia. Russia and India to set up JVs to build aircrafts,
automobiles – 5 MoUs signed.
v.
India & France decide to cooperate in fight against terrorism, climate
change.

AP’S VIZIANAGARAM BAGS MGNREGA NATIONAL AWARD
i.
The Ministry of Rural Development has selected Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh
as one among the 17 districts across the nation for the MGNREGA annual award for
effective implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment
Guarantee Act during 2015-16.
ii.
Works for 361668 households were generated in 2015-16 and Rs. 483.42 cr as
wages were disbursed. Over 5000 farm
ponds, 240 rain water harvesting structures, and 440 water shed works were
executed.

INDIA SUCCESSFULLY TEST-FIRES 1ST ALL WEATHER TRACKED-CHASSIS QR-SAM
i.
India has successfully test-fired its 1st all-weather tracked-chassis Quick
Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile on 4th of June. The test was carried out for
validating various parameters of the sophisticated weapon system to strengthen
its air defence system.
ii.
The missile was launched from a mobile launcher in the Integrated Test Range
off Odisha coast at Chandipur.
iii.
The missile system has the potential to engage multiple targets within a range
of approximately 30 km, with the configuration of two vehicles for area air
defence.
iv.
The Maitri missile project is a next-generation quick-reaction surface-to-air
missile (QRSAM).
5.
TELANGANA LAUNCHES SINGLE-WOMAN PENSION SCHEME, FIRST IN INDIA
i.
Telangana State Government launched single-woman pension scheme across the
state, thereby becoming the 1st state in India to launch such scheme.
ii.
Under the scheme, Telangana State Govt. will provide 1000 financial assistance
per month to single women. The beneficiaries would get the pension in their
bank accounts every month.
iii.
This scheme will benefit unmarried women, joginis and divorced women. Besides,
children of single women would be admitted into all Telangana Residential
Educational Institutions without having to write an examination or waiting for
the lottery system.
6.
INDIA OVERTAKES CHINA TO TOP GLOBAL RETAIL INDEX SAYS GRDI REPORT
i.
India has overtaken China and has ranked as the top country in the 2017 Global
Retail Development Index released by A.T. Kearney.
ii.
2017 GRDI titled ‘The Age of Focus’ has outlined that India’s rapidly growing
economy, relaxation of Foreign Direct Investment rules and a consumption boom
triggered by growing middle class population are the key factors on basis of
which India topped the index this year.
iii.
2017 Global Retail Development Index Top 5 Countries are: India, China,
Malaysia, Turkey and United Arab Emirates.
7.
ICICI BANK COMMISSIONS 200 SOLAR-POWERED ATMS
i.
On the occasion of the World Environment Day, ICICI Bank has mentioned that it
has commissioned over 200 solar powered ATM sites in the last one year as part
of its efforts to reduce carbon footprint and use more clean energy.
ii.
Besides commissioning solar powered ATMs, ICICI Bank has reduced its overall
energy consumption in large offices and branches from 198 million units in
2013-14 to 164 million units in 2016-17, saving 34 million units in last three
years.
iii.
ICICI Bank MD & CEO Chanda Kochhar has mentioned that bank has been
constantly leveraging on ICICI technology and has helped customers in adopting
digital modes of banking.
8.
INDIA’S HEAVIEST ROCKET WITH GSAT-19 SATELLITE LIFTS-OFF INTO SPACE
i.
Indian Space Research Organisation successfully launched the Geosynchronous
Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III – D1, along with a communications satellite
GSAT-19 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
ii.
43 metres tall GSLV-Mk III weighed 640 tonnes. It’s main and bigger cryogenic
engine has been developed by ISRO scientists.
iii.
The communications satellite GSAT-19 weighed 3,136kg. It is a multi-beam
satellite that carries Ka and Ku band forward and return link transponders and
geostationary radiation spectrometer.

THE MINISTRY OF UTMOST HAPPINESS AUTHORED BY ARUNDHATI ROY LAUNCHED
i.
The book “The Ministry of Utmost Happiness” has been authored by Arundhati Roy,
which was release on June 5, 2017.
ii.
It is fiction-based novel and will be published by Hamish Hamilton UK and
Penguin India.
iii.
Booker prize-winning novel ‘The God of Small Things’ after 20 years, Arundhati
Roy has announced the release of her next novel titled “The Ministry of Utmost
Happiness” in June 2017.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF INNOCENT CHILDREN VICTIMS OF AGGRESSION
i.
International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression was observed
across the world on 4 June.
ii.
The day focuses on victims of the 1982 Lebanon War. It was established on 19
August 1982.
iii.
This day provides an opportunity to the world to acknowledge the pain suffered
by children throughout the world who are the victims of physical, mental and
emotional abuse.
iv.
The day also affirms the commitment of the United Nations to protect the rights
of children.
