1. PRESIDENT MUKHERJEE LAUNCHED FOUR DIGITAL INITIATIVES OVER E-EDUCATION
i. President Pranab Mukherjee launched digital initiatives Swayam, Swayam Prabha, National Academic Depository and National Digital Library in New Delhi to push e-education in the country.
ii. According to ministry of human resource development these initiatives will increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio in the higher education from 5 (2015-16) to 30 by 2020.
iii. These courses have been developed by over 1,000 expert faculty members from institutions like IITs, Delhi University and JNU.

2. 1ST INTERNATIONAL AVIATION SECURITY SEMINAR ORGANISED BY  NATIONAL SECURITY GUARD IN HARYANA
i. National Security Guard organised First International Aviation Security seminar organised by National Security Guard in Manesar, Haryana.
ii. The seminar was inaugurated by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha, whereas Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (I/C) Rajiv Pratap Rudy attended the seminar on the second day.
iii. Rudy also unfurled the tricolor at the 26th highest Monumental Flagpole in the NSG campus.

3. FIRST EDITION OF WINGS 2017 – “SAB UDEN, SAB JUDEN”- EXPANDING REGIONAL CONNECTIVITY HOSTED IN NEW DELHI
i. Civil Aviation Ministry hosted the First edition of WINGS 2017 – “Sab Uden, Sab Juden”- Expanding Regional Connectivity in New Delhi. The session was chaired by the Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Shri P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju and the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Shri Jayant Sinha.
ii. There was participation from 28 States and Union Territories and out of this 19 states and Union Territory made presentation emphasizing the special packages to the airlines under RCS- UDAN.
iii. During the Wings-2017, Interactive sessions with Stakeholders of entire Ecosystem such as Tourism Departments, Airport Operators, Tour Operators and other players in the value chain was convened.
iv. The States capitalized upon the unique platform provided by the ministry, wherein they had 112 one to one discussions (G2B meetings) with the Airlines operators.


4. 2-DAY REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON GOOD GOVERNANCE AND REPLICATION OF BEST HELD IN NAINITAL, UTTARAKHAND
i. A two days Regional Conference on “Good Governance and Replication of Best Practices” will begin in Nainital, Uttarakhand.
ii. It is organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, and Government of India in collaboration with Government of Uttarakhand.
iii. Delegates from 12 States and 4 UTs of Northern, Western and Central Region will be participating in the conference.
iv. The Conference will be inaugurated by Secretary, DARPG, Shri C. Viswanath. Its objective is to create a common platform to share experiences in the formulation and implementation of citizen centric governance.
v. It has also stated to improve public service delivery through e-Governance, transparent, accountable and citizen-friendly effective administration. As per the programme schedule, 3 sessions will be held during the conference.

5. 12TH G20 SUMMIT HELD IN HAMBURG, GERMANY
i. The 2017 G20 Summit was the 12th meeting of the Group of Twenty, which was held in Hamburg, Germany. The theme for this year’s G20 Summit was “Shaping an Inter-connected World”.
ii. At the G20 Summit, a consensus emerged on issues like fight against terror, global warming and protectionism among majority of the world leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
iii. G20 leaders including PM Narendra Modi agreed to facilitate swift and targeted exchange of information between intelligence, law enforcement and judicial authorities to crackdown on the global scourge of terrorism and to check its funding sources.
iv. G20 leaders adopted a World Bank funding plan of up to USD 1 billion for women entrepreneurs in developing nations, an initiative championed by US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump.
v. At G20 Summit, PM Narendra Modi welcomed the action plan against terror and presented a 10-point action agenda for it.

6. INFORMAL BRICS LEADERS MEETING HELD IN HAMBURG, GERMANY
i. The Informal BRICS Leaders meeting held in Hamburg, Germany. The leaders had discussed preparations and priorities for the forthcoming Xiamen BRICS Summit.
ii. The forthcoming 9th BRICS Summit will be in September in Xiamen, China. PM Modi has mentioned in his speech that BRICS has been a strong voice and needs to show leadership on terrorism and global economy.
iii. He also emphasize that G20 should collectively oppose terrorism financing, franchises, safe havens, support and sponsors.
iv. PM Modi also said to focus on implementing Paris Agreement globally as essential to fighting climate change.

7. INDIA TO JOIN NEW GLOBAL FOREIGN EXCHANGE COMMITTEE
i. India will soon get a seat on the Global Foreign Exchange Committee, a newly-constituted forum of central bankers and experts working towards promotion of a robust and transparent forex market.
ii. The Financial Stability Board, an international body for global financial system, in a progress report on ‘reducing misconduct risks in the financial sector’.
iii. The committee was set up in London during a meeting in May 2017 of public and private sector representatives from the foreign exchange committees of 16 international forex trading centres.

8. NEPAL SBI LAUNCHES 1ST PAPERLESS BANKING SERVICES SBIINTOUCH
i. Nepal SBI Bank, a subsidiary of the State Bank of India, launched its fully automatic digital banking services  sbiINTOUCH in  Kathmandu.
ii. This is for the 1st time the State Bank of India has expanded the paperless banking system outside India. Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Chirinjibi Nepal, SBI Banks chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri, jointly inaugurated the new service in Nepal.
iii. It will offer products like Savings Bank, Saral Bachat Account and Combo Savings Account and the branch will have facilities like kiosks for account opening, debit card printing and ATM.
iv. The digital banking unit also has a robot, which provides important information to customers in an interactive manner. Under the Digital Village initiative, the NSBL has adopted Jaharsing Pauwa village to provide financial literacy centres and other banking facilities to the 2,200 villagers.

9. JOHN JOSEPH TO TAKE CHARGE AS CHIEF OF GST INTELLIGENCE AGENCY
i. John Joseph has been appointed Director General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence.
ii. Joseph, a 1983 batch officer of Indian Revenue Service has worked in the Finance Ministry’s important departments, including the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.
iii. The DG GSTI is the new name given to the Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence. It is mandated to check service tax and central excise duty evasion.
