VIJAY RUPANI SWORN IN AS
CHIEF MINISTER OF GUJARAT
i. Vijay Rupani was sworn in at a grand ceremony in the State
capital of Gandhinagar as the Chief Minister of Gujarat state. Governor Om
Prakash Kohli administered the Oath of Office and Secrecy to 21 ministers
including Mr Rupani and his deputy Nitin Patel.
ii. Along with Mr Rupani as CM and Nitin Patel as his Deputy, a
total of 19 ministers 9 of them in cabinet rank and 10 MoS were sworn in.

MODI TO BE FIRST PM TO
ATTEND WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM IN 20 YEARS
i. PM Narendra Modi will become the first PM in 20 years to attend
the World Economic Forum’s annual jamboree of the global elite. The meeting
will be held in Davos town of Switzerland.
ii. The 5-day Davos Annual Meeting of Geneva-based WEF will begin
in January 2018. Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister at the Davos
summit since 1997 when the then Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda had attended.

25TH NATIONAL CHILDREN
SCIENCE CONGRESS HELD IN GUJARAT
i. The 25th edition of National Children Science Congress was held
Gandhinagar, Gujarat. It was inaugurated by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani
in Ahmedabad.
ii. The theme of the 5-day Congress this was ‘Science and
Innovation for Sustainable Development’ with the special focus on persons with
disabilities.
iii. The NCSC is ideal and innovative programme for children to
inspire, empower and expand their minds to world. It is a flagship programme of
department of Science & Technology, Union Ministry of Science and
Technology.
iv. This year 50 children and teachers from Asian nations had
participated in the event. Apart from science exhibition, the event also
witnessed various activities such as presentations by child scientists,
hands-on demonstrations, poster session and cultural programmes.

SLCM TIES UP WITH HDFC,
INDUSIND BANK FOR POST HARVEST CREDIT
i. Agri service solutions provider Sohan Lal Commodity Management having
operations across India and Myanmar has tied up with HDFC Bank and IndusInd
Bank to provide collateral management services.
ii. This tie-up will not only help improve the farmers' access to
post-harvest credits at affordable interest rates, it will also provide easy
access to scientific storage facilities leading to a fair price discovery of
their products in the market.

UP INKS MOU WITH SOUTH
KOREA IN FIELD OF TOURISM, SKILL DEVELOPMENT, CULTURE AND FARMING
i. The Uttar Pradesh government has signed Memorandum of
Understanding with South Korea on to enhance cooperation in the field of
tourism, skill development, culture and farming.
ii. It was signed after a delegation from South Korea’s Gimhae
city met CM Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow and discussed ways to improve
cooperation between the two countries.
iii. The MoU will go a long way in cementing the bond especially
cultural and historical relations between Uttar Pradesh and South Korea.
Earlier, in 2000, an agreement was signed to develop Ayodhya and Gimhae as sister
cities, following which memorial was constructed in Ayodhya which is visited by
large number of tourists from South Korea every year. The people in South Korea
believe that 2,000 years ago, Ayodhya princess had married Korean King Kim
Suro. At present, members of the ‘Crock Clan’ are considered as their
descendants.

AMAZON ACQUIRES CONNECTED
SECURITY CAMERA MAKER 'BLINK'
i. Amazon has bought an Andover, Massachusetts-based company
'Blink' that makes Internet-connected doorbells and security cameras.
ii. The move could help Amazon compete in the fast-growing home
security camera market and against similar devices made by Nest, a subsidiary
of Google parent company Alphabet.

SAMSUNG, AXIS BANK TIE-UP
TO OFFER 'BILL PAYMENTS' ON SAMSUNG PAY
i. Smartphone manufacturer Samsung launched its 'Bill Payments' on
its flagship payments service, Samsung Pay in partnership with Axis Bank.
ii. With the introduction of 'Bill Payments', consumers will be
able to pay their utility bills seamlessly through Samsung Pay, set reminders
and search favourite biller based on their current location.

INDIAN BOXERS CLAIM 5
MEDALS AT GALYM BOXING TOURNAMENT
i. Indian boxers have claimed three gold, a silver, and a bronze
medal at the Galym Zharylgapov Boxing Tournament in Karaganda, Kazakhstan.
ii. In the event, the country’s Gold Medal winners were K Shyam
Kumar in 49kg, Naman Tanwar in 91kg and Satish Kumar in the 91kg category
claimed gold medals. The19-year-old Naman Tanwar was also adjudged the best
boxer of the tournament.

BENGALI FILM ACTOR PARTHA
MUKHOPADHYAY PASSES AWAY
i. Famed Bengali film actor Partha Mukhopadhyay had passed away.
He was 70. Mukhopadhyay portrayed a number of memorable roles in the 1960s
after getting a break as a child artiste in the film Maa directed by Chitto
Basu in 1958.
ii. The state government had conferred Mukhopadhyay with a special
award for his contribution to Bengali films.
