1.      WORLD’S 1ST PRIVATE DIGITAL COURT

        ‘Jupitice Justice Technologies’, an Chandigarh-based startup has developed World’s 1st Private Digital Court (powered by Blockchain& Artificial Intelligence) to resolve disputes under the Private Justice System through Alternative Dispute Resolution  Mechanisms  (ADR).

        The platform is designed for private justice system arbitration, conciliation, mediation & negotiation.

        Acts which deal with ADR in India – The Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 , Conciliation Act was enacted in 1996.

 

2.      INDIAN NAVY HOSTS GMS-21 VIRTUALLY

        Indian Navy hosted ‘GOA MARITIME SYMPOSIUM (GMS)-21’ virtually for 2 days, from 11th & 12th May 2021, it was for the 1st time GMS-21 held virtually.

        The theme for GMS-21 was focused on “Maritime Security and Emerging Non-Traditional Threats: A Case for Proactive Role for IOR Navies”.

        13 Indian Ocean Littoral countries (India, Bangladesh, Comoros, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand) participated in the GMS-21.

 

3.      INDIA’S WPI INFLATION JUMPS TO 11-YEAR HIGH

        As per the data released by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry on May 17, 2021, India’s annual rate of inflation (YoY), based on monthly WPI (Wholesale Price Index) accelerated to 10.49 percent in April 2021, (the highest since April 2010) from 7.39 percent in March 2021 due to a hike in prices of food items, manufactured goods, fuel, and power.

        Note – April 2021’s WPI inflation is the first double digits WPI in almost a decade.

 

4.      INDIAN AIRLINE-‘GOAIR’ REBRANDED AS ‘GO FIRST’

        Wadia Group owned, Indian Airline, ‘GoAir’ was rebranded itself as ‘Go First’ after completing its 15 years of service as GoAir.

        The Go First as ULCC (ultra-low-cost carrier) would operate single aircraft type across its fleet, which currently has both Airbus A320 and A320Neos (new engine option) planes in operation.

        It will be the 3rd operational scheduled carrier after SpiceJet and IndiGo once the shares get listed.

 

5.      1ST INDIAN WOMEN TO SUMMIT MOUNT PUMORI

        Baljeet Kaur of Himachal Pradesh and Gunbala Sharma of Rajasthan  have become The First Indian Women Mountaineers to Summit Mount Pumori in Nepal.

        The two women are also the first ones to scale a mountain that is a part of the Everest Massif.

 

6.      LARGEST INTERNATIONAL SUBMARINE CABLE SYSTEM WITH INDIA AS CENTER

        RelianceJioInfocomm Ltd (Jio), a subsidiary of Jio Platforms Ltd is constructing the largest international submarine cable system with India as the center of the submarine cable system.

        It is the 1st time in history of Fiber optic submarine telecommunications that India will be at the centre of the International network map.

        The submarine cable system will consist of 2 subsea cable systems – India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) connecting India to Singapore, and India-Europe-Xpress (IEX) connecting India to the Middle East and Europe.

 

7.      EUROPE’S JUPITER SPACECRAFT ‘JUICE’ ENTERS TESTING PHASE

        Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUICE), an interplanetary spacecraft being developed by European Space Agency (ESA)  has entered into a crucial testing phase.

        It is being tested at ESA’s European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in the Netherlands.

        The Jupiter bound Spacecraft has been assembled by Airbus Friedrichshafen, Germany.

        It is set to be launched in 2022 on an Ariane 5 Rocket & is expected to reach Jupiter in 2029.

        The mission will study 3 of Jupiter’s Galilean moons – Europa, Callisto& Ganymede.

        It will investigate the conditions necessary for habitability.

 

8.      1ST BATCH OF ANTI-COVID-19 DRUG ‘2-DG’

        Union Minister for Defence Rajnath Singh released the 1st batch of Anti-COVID-19 therapeutic drug ‘2-DG (2-deoxy-D-glucose)’.

        It is the 1st indigenous therapeutic drug developed by India to fight COVID-19.

        It has been developed by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), a lab of Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO) in collaboration with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL), Hyderabad, Telangana.

 

9.      SUPREME COURT LAUNCHES APP FOR JOURNALISTS TO ACCESS VIRTUAL HEARINGS

        Due to Covid-19, the Supreme Court came up with a mobile app to enable journalists to report virtual proceedings without having to visit court premises.

        In May 2021, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana launched the app virtually and the event was attended by Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, Hemant Gupta, and Supreme Court secretary-general Sanjeev S Kalgaonkar.

 

10.    INDIAN-ORIGIN FIGHTER TO WIN MMA WORLD CHAMPION

        Indo-Canadian Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) Arjan Singh Bhullar defeated  Brandon Vera to become the heavyweight world champion at the Singapore-based One Championship and  became the first Indian-origin fighter to win an MMA world champion title.

        A former freestyle wrestler, Bhullar had won the 2010 Commonwealth games gold medal in New Delhi representing Canada.

 

11.    DR.KK AGGARWAL PASSED AWAY

        Former National President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Padma Shri awardee Dr.Krishan Kumar Aggarwal (KK Aggarwal) has passed away due to Covid-19 in New Delhi.

        He was born on 5th  September 1958 in  New Delhi.

        He was a renowned cardiologist and has been working as the Head of the Heart Care Foundation of India.

 

12.    INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY 2021

      The International Museum Day is annually observed across the globe on 18th May to create awareness on the importance of  museums towards the development of society.

          The day is annually organised by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) Advisory Committee.

        The theme of the International Museum Day 2021 is “The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine”.

 

13.    KARNATAKA RANKS 1ST IN ESTABLISHING HWCS

        Karnataka has been ranked as the Number One state in establishing a Health & Wellness Centre (HWC) under the Ayushman Bharat project for the year 2020-21, it was stated by Karnataka’s Health & Family Welfare Department.

        HWCs are established to provide comprehensive primary healthcare in rural areas.

        The Central Government has set a target of 1.5 lakh functional AB-HWCs by December 2022.

 

14.    JHARKHAND TOPS IN IMPLEMENTATION OF SMART CITY PROJECTS

        Jharkhand has clinched the 1st Position among the 36 States & UTs of India based on the progress of implementation of Smart City projects, Rajasthan came second in the rankings.

        The rankings were released by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

        Rajasthan has climbed 27 ranks to get to the 2nd position, it was ranked 29th in the previous rankings.

        INR 6, 450 Crore was allocated in Union Budget 2021-22 for the Smart Cities Mission.

 

15.    2020 MILLENNIUM TECHNOLOGY PRIZE BY TAF

        Cambridge University Chemists – Professor Shankar Balasubramanian and Professor David Klenerman won the 2020 Millennium Technology Prize for the development of revolutionary DNA sequencing techniques –  Next Generation DNA Sequencing (NGS).

        The award is presented by the Technology Academy Finland (TAF).

 

16.    BLOOMBERG BILLIONAIRES INDEX

        Tesla and SpaceX’s Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk lost his World’s 2nd-richest person position in Bloomberg Billionaires Index due to a sharp drop in Tesla’s share by 2.2 percent.

        Musk was overtaken by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s Chairman Bernard Arnault.

 

17.    GOVT TO SALE OF 58 MILLION SHARES IN AXIS BANK

        The Government (govt) sold 58 million shares in Axis Bank, which is held through the Specified Undertaking of the Unit Trust of India (SUUTI) to raise around Rs 4,000 crore.

        35 million shares/ 1.21 percent stake in Axis Bank was sold by govt as a base offer and the remaining 22 million shares/0.74 percent stake was sold under a green-shoe option.

        The floor price for the stake sale has been fixed at Rs 680 apiece.

 

18.    ADANI GREEN TO ACQUIRE SB ENERGY INDIA

        Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) agreed to acquire the 100 percent stake of SB Energy Holdings Limited at an enterprise valuation(EV) of ~ $3.5 billion, the largest acquisition in the renewable energy sector in India.
