1. 26TH
SCO SUMMIT
·
The 26th meeting
of the Council of Heads of State (CHS)of
the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit as
well as ‘SCO Plus meeting’, was held in Bishkek, the
capital city of Kyrgyzstan, marking the 25th
anniversary of the SCO.
·
The
two-day long summit, chaired by Sadyr Japarov, President
of Kyrgyzstan, was held under the motto:
“25 Years of the SCO; Together for Sustainable Peace, Development and
Prosperity”.
·
Prime
Minister Narendra Modi represented India at the summit.
·
On the sidelines of SCO summit, “SCO Plus” meeting was organised under
the theme “The UN as a Key Element of a
Just World Order: The Contribution of the SCO Plus States to the Formation
of a Multipolar World”.
·
The presidency for 2026-27 was handed over to
Pakistan, which is set to be held under the chairmanship theme of “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity,
Innovation and Shared Prosperity”.
·
SCO Tourism Cultural Capital
for 2026-27: “Lahore”, the capital city of Pakistan, has been designated as “ SCO Tourism and Cultural Capital” for
2026-27.
·
The summit concluded with the adoption of the Bishkek Declaration and
approval of 28 documents, including 4
Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and over 20 decisions and statements covering areas such as climate, nuclear
safety, energy conservation, drug control, SCO Charter amendments and emergency
assistance.
·
The Bishkek Declaration, featured several India-led or India-supported initiatives such as: English recognised as an official and
working language of the SCO; SCO Young Scientists Forum and SCO Young
Authors Conference
·
The United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP) released its latest report
titled “Limiting Overshoot: Navigating exceedance
of 1.5°C and pathways towards return”, exploring the
risks and impacts related with higher levels of warming.
·
The
report highlighted that the world is now mostly likely to “overshoot” or temporarily breach the global warming
temperature threshold 1.5°C above preindustrial temperatures within the next few years.
·
The report further projected that global surface temperature is expected
to peak at about 1.8°C
above pre-industrial levels even under an “optimistic scenario”.
·
With current global policies, the global temperature is expected to
reach 2.6°C by 2100.
·
The report cited that every
additional 5 years of sustained high emission could possibly add
approximately 0.1°C to peak warming.
3. UNGA
ADOPTS ‘CORRECT THE MAP’ RESOLUTION
·
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted
the “Correct the Map” resolution with 164 votes in favour,
promoting the Equal Earth projection to replace the 16th-century ‘Mercator map’ for more
accurate global representation, highlighting
Africa’s true size as about 14 times larger than Greenland.
·
The
resolution, sponsored by Togo and backed by African
Union (AU) members, was adopted in the UNGA with 164 votes in
favour, with support from France and the United Kingdom (UK), while the United States of America (USA) voted
against and six countries abstained.
·
The resolution
is non-binding and does not ban the Mercator projection. Instead, it
encourages wider use of equal-area projections for general-purpose maps,
education and public communication.
4. PM NARENDRA
MODI’S VISIT TO KYRGYZSTAN
·
Prime Minister (PM) Narendra
Modi undertook a two-day visit to Kyrgyzstan at
the invitation of Sadyr Japarov, President of
Kyrgyzstan, to attend the 26th meeting
of the Council of Heads of State (CHS)of the Shanghai Cooperation
Organisation (SCO) Summit.

6th Nomad Games: PM
Narendra Modi, attended the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games, a biennial traditional sports event, in
Bishkek
·
PM Modi held bilateral meetings with various
SCO leaders, including Vladimir Putin,
President of Russia, Masoud Pezeshkian,
President of Iran.
·
PM Modi presented
10-volume of English translation of Mahabharata by eminent Indian economist Bibek Debroy as well
as Ladakhi Tsugdul Blanket, a
traditional woolen textile from Ladakh,
to Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, while a Dokra
artwork presented to Abdylbek Kasymaliev, PM of Kyrgyzstan.

PM Modi
presented a sandalwood Shata Tantri
Veena (popularly known as Santoor), and two premium variants of Kangra tea (from Himachal Pradesh, HP); and
original handwritten scoresheet of chess
Grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov to Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President
of Uzbekistan.
5. NOVEMBER
27 AS INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST CHILD MARRIAGE
·
India was among the 70 countries
who co-sponsored a resolution in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declaring November
27 every year as the International Day for the
Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage.
·
The resolution, A/RES/80/309, led by Sierra Leone,
was adopted without a vote during the 80th
Session of the UNGA in New York, USA, with the support of all 193 UN Member States.
·
The first observance of the International Day
will take place on 27 November 2026.
6. UNESCO
HERITAGE SITES TENTATIVE LIST
·
The Permanent Delegation of
India to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organisation (UNESCO) announced the inclusion of 4 new
Indian cultural heritage sites in the Tentative List of UNESCO’s World
Heritage Convention (WHC). Category -Cultural
·
New Sites are Rangpur-Sivasagar
Historic Ensemble (Assam), the Colonial Penal
Settlement (Andaman Islands), Nicobarese Cultural
Continuity (in the Central Group of Nicobar Islands), and
the Painted Haveli Towns of Shekhawati (Rajasthan),
·
With
this, the total number of Indian sites
on the tentative list increases to 73 (including
53 under Cultural category, 3 under Mixed Category and 17 under Natural
Category).
7. INDIA
JOINS ‘GLOBAL 6G INITIATIVE’
·
India,
through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), joined a global
sixth-generation 6G initiative ‘Call to
Action for 6G Leadership and Security’ with USA and 24 countries to strengthen
international collaboration to build secure, interoperable, and
innovation-driven next-generation telecom networks.
·
India joined the Call to Action
for 6G Leadership and Security, led by USA’s National
Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), as
the 26th country committing to collaborative efforts for 6G development over
the coming years.
·
India is advancing its domestic ambitions through the Bharat 6G Mission,
aiming to establish itself as a global hub for 6G intellectual property,
telecom products, and affordable solutions by 2030.
8. INDIA’S
FIRST GEOSYNCHRONOUS IMAGING SATELLITE EOS-05
·
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully
launched Earth observation satellite “EOS-05”,
aboard the Geosynchronous Satellite
Launch Vehicle (GSLV)-F17 rocket from the Second
Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh (AP).
·
EOS-05
is India’s first-ever imaging satellite from geosynchronous orbit, marking
a significant milestone in India’s Earth observation programme and
strengthening geosynchronous imaging capabilities.
·
The
51.7-metre (m) GSLV F17 placed the 2,367 kg (kilogram) EOS-05 into Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit
(Sub-GTO), with a perigee of 171 kilometer(km), apogee of 31,260 km, and
inclination of 19.28 degrees
·
GSLV-F17
is a three-stage rocket with a 420.5-tonne liftoff mass,
featuring an S139 solid core, L40H liquid strap-ons, a liquid second stage, and
an indigenous cryogenic upper stage, demonstrating India’s advancements in
heavy-lift launch technology.
·
EOS-05
is a state-of-the-art Earth observation satellite and
India’s first-ever imaging satellite from geosynchronous orbit, capable of
continuous large-area monitoring using visible, infrared, multispectral, and
hyperspectral imaging.
9. ‘GREEN
HIGHWAYS EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2026’
·
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)
announced the winners of the ‘Green Highways Excellence Awards 2026’,
instituted to recognise and promote best practices in National Highway (NH)
landscaping and plantation management.
·
Entries were invited through the NHAI online
portal, with 86 nominations received across three categories: 27 for Avenue
Plantations, 36 for Median Plantations, and 23 for Plantation in Land Parcels.

10. CROWNED
MISS WORLD 2026
·
The Miss World Organisation (MWO) crowned Joheirry
Mola of the Dominican Republic as Miss
World 2026 at the 73rd edition held in
Nha Trang, Vietnam, where 111
contestants competed globally.
·
She
became only the second Dominican woman
to win Miss World, following Mariasela Álvarez, who won the title in 1982.
·
Spain’s
Elisabeth Reynes Alabern was named first runner-up, while Malaysia’s
Taanusiya Chetty finished as second
runner-up.
·
India’s Nikita
Porwal, from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh (MP), secured a place in the Top 40.
·
The next edition scheduled to be hosted
in Tanzania in 2027
