1.         INDIA’S FIRST GLOBAL AYUSH INVESTMENT AND INNOVATION SUMMIT 2022

          Government of India (GoI) & Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) organised its first Global Ayush Investment and Innovation Summit (GAIIS) – 2022 at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

          The summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

          The ceremony for the World Health Organisation (WHO) Global Centre for Traditional Medicine will be launched at Jamnagar in Gujarat

2.         NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON AGRICULTURE-KHARIF CAMPAIGN – 2022

          The Government at the National Conference on Agriculture- Kharif Campaign – 2022, has set the foodgrain production target at a record level of 328 Million Tonnes for the Crop year 2022-23 (July 2022-June 2023).

          Of the total Production target of 328 Million Tonnes – 163.15 million tonnes is set for Kharif season crops and 164.85 million tonnes for the Rabi season crops.

          For the Kharif Season, Rice production target has been kept at 112 million tonnes, Maize at 23.10 million tonnes, Pulses at 10.55 million tonnes and Oilseeds at 26.89 million tonnes.

          Target for production of pulses and oilseeds have been fixed at 295.5 and 413.4 lakh tonnes in 2022-23.

          As per the second advance estimate of the Agriculture Ministry, foodgrains production is estimated to be a record of 316.06 million tonnes in the ongoing crop year 2021-22 ending June.

 

3.         COMMEMORATIVE STAMP ON 400TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY 9TH SIKH GURU TEGH BAHADUR

          Prime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi released a commemorative coin and postage stamp to mark the 400th birth anniversary of 9th Sikh Guru TeghBahadur. 

          He also addressed the nation on the occasion of the 400th ParkashPurab celebrations at Red Fort, Delhi and remembered the sacrifice of Guru “Guru TeghBahadur” who stood against Aurangzeb’s tyranny to protect the dignity of their culture.

          He was popularly known as ‘Hind di Chaddar’, Jagat Guru. He was born in Amritsar and breathed his last in Delhi. He was the youngest son of Sri Guru HargobindJi.

 

4.         WEF’S 2022 CLASS OF YOUNG GLOBAL LEADER

          Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) leader Raghav Chadha, Edelweiss Mutual Fund(MF) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Radhika Gupta and Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov are among the World Economic Forum(WEF)’s Young Global Leaders(YGLs) Class of 2022.

          WEF unveiled the new class of Young Global Leaders (YGLs) – 2022 featuring the world’s most promising 109 Young Global Leaders under the age of 40 involved in activities ranging from green energy to health equity to refugee rights and education reform.

5.         NEW CHAIRMAN OF NITI AAYOG

          Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) appointed Economist Suman K Bery as the Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India).He will succeed Rajiv Kumar who will step down on April 30, 2022.

          The committee also appointed Suman K Bery initially as Full-Time Member, NITI Aayog

          The Government of India constituted NITI Aayog in 2015, to replace the Planning Commission, which had been instituted in 1950.

          The Governing Council of NITI Aayog is chaired by the Prime Minister of India (Narendra Modi).

6.         NEW VESSEL ‘URJA PRAVAHA’ INDUCTED INTO INDIAN COAST GUARD

          The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Ship Urja Pravaha, an auxiliary barge was launched at Shoft Shipyard in Bharuch, Gujarat, arrived in Kochi, Kerala

          The Auxiliary Barge UrjaPravaha is 36 meters long and is designed to carry cargo ship Fuel, aviation Fuel and fresh water.

 

7.         WORLD BOOK AND COPYRIGHT DAY 2022 – APRIL 23

          World Book and Copyright Day is annually observed across the globe on 23rd April to celebrate and promote the enjoyment of books and reading.

          The observance of the World Book and Copyright Day is annually organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

          Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay has named the Guadalajara city in Mexico as the World Book Capital of 2022

8.         VISIT OF THE UNITED KINGDOM PM BORIS JOHNSON TO INDIA

          The Prime Minister of The United Kingdom (UK), Boris Johnson, was on an official visit to India (Delhi & Gujarat) on the invitation of India PM Narendra Modi. This is his first visit to India as Prime Minister of UK.

          He is the first British PM to visit Gujarat

          Both sides also signed 2 Government to Government MoUs and 4 Non-Governmental MoUs.

          Both sides agreed to complete the free trade agreement (FTA) by the end of the year i.e. by October 2022.

 

9.         MUMBAI GETS INDIA’S FIRST BUS SERVICE WITH ‘TAP IN, TAP OUT’ FACILITY

          Maharashtra State Tourism, Environment & Protocol Minister Aditya Thackeray inaugurated India’s first bus service with ‘Tap In, Tap Out’ feature, with the goal of increasing the digitalization of the bus ticketing system, in order to make travelling across Mumbai easier.

          Under the ‘Tap In, Tap Out’ service, a passenger will have to ‘Tap In’ his Chalo smartcard or the Chalo mobile app in front of the machine installed at the entrance.

          The passenger will be allowed to board the bus with a green tick, and the fare will be deducted when the person deboards after “Tapping Out” on the smart card or mobile app.

 

10.      PM MODI RECEIVES FIRST LATA DEENANATH MANGESHKAR AWARD

          The Hon’ble Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi received the First Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award 2022, for his ‘selfless service to the country and society’.

          The award will be presented annually to only one individual who has made path-breaking, spectacular and exemplary contributions to the nation, its people, and the society.

 

11.      UN AWARD - WSIS PRIZES 2022

          Meghalaya Enterprise Architecture (MeghEA) Implementation, an e-proposal system, a key initiative of the Planning Department of the Government of Meghalaya has been selected for the United Nations(UN)’s World Summit on the Information Society(WSIS) Prizes 2022 – Champion Project.

          MeghEA, a flagship program of the Meghalaya initiated in 2019, aims to enable digital service delivery from Government to citizens, businesses and employees by adopting Whole-of-Government approach.

14.      NATIONAL PANCHAYATI RAJ DAY – 24TH APRIL

          National Panchayati Raj Day (NPRD) is annually observed across India on 24th April to celebrate the constitutional status accorded to the Panchayati Ray system of India.

          24th April marks the historic day on which decentralization of power to the grassroots, with the institutionalization of Panchayati Raj, through the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992 came into force.

 

15.      WORLD MALARIA DAY 2022 – APRIL 25

          The observance of the day is annually organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

16.      PALLI BECOMES INDIA’S 1ST CARBON-NEUTRAL PANCHAYAT

          Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi inaugurated the 500 KW solar power plant at Palli Village in Samba District, Jammu and Kashmir(J&K)

          PM Modi has laid the foundation stones for the 850 MW Ratle Hydroelectric Project and 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric project which will be constructed on the Chenab river in Kishtwar District.

          He also inaugurated the 8.45 Km Banihal-Qazigund Road Tunnel The tunnel reduces the road distance between Banihal and Qazigund by 16 km

          He also laid the foundation stone of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, which is being built at a cost of over Rs 7500 crore.

 

17.      INDIA’S MILITARY SPENDING IS 3RD HIGHEST IN WORLD- SIPRI REPOR

          In accordance with the Sweden based think-tank Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) report, titled ‘Trends in World Military Expenditure, 2021‘, India’s military spending of $76.6 billion is 3rd highest in the world followed by the United States (US)-1st  and China (2nd) .

          India’s military spending are increased by 0.9% from 2020 and by 33% from 2012.

          To strengthen the indigenous arms industry, 64% of capital outlays in the military budget of 2021 were earmarked for acquisitions of domestically produced arms.

 

18.      SBI CARD PARTNERS WITH TCS TO ACCELERATE ITS DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

          In a move towards expanding its strategic partnership, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has signed a deal with SBI Cards and Payments Services Ltd. (SBI Card), to accelerate SBI Card’s digital transformation journey.

          SBI Card was launched by the State Bank of India and GE Capital and was incorporated as SBI Cards and Payment Services Private Limited (SBICPSL).

          As of April 25 2022 ,Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani surpassed Berkshire Hathaway chairman Warren Buffett to become the fifth richest person in the world, according to the ‘Forbes’ real-time billionaires list’.

          The net worth of GautamAdani is estimated to be United States Dollar (USD) 122.3 billion, where Buffett stands at USD 121.7 billion.

          24 eminent Writers, Playwrights, Poets and Novelists were conferred with Sahitya Akademi Awards 2021 in New Delhi, Delhi.

22.      ELON MUSK ACQUIRES TWITTER FOR APPROX $44 BILLION

          Tesla co-founder and World’s richest person Elon Musk has acquired social networking service Twitter Inc. for approximately $44 billion with shares valued at $54.20. Now the company will be held privately.

          Twitter was created by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams in March 2006, and was launched in July 2006.

          The Current Twitter CEO is Parag Agrawal.

 

23.      INDIAN NAVY AND IAF SUCCESSFULLY TEST FIRES BRAHMOS MISSILE

          Indian Navy has successfully test-fired a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the guided-missile destroyer Indian Navy Ship (INS) Delhi.

          Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully tested a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from a frontline fighter jet Sukhoi Su30 MkI on the eastern seaboard on the same day.

          BrahMos Aerospace, an India-Russian joint venture, produces supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land platforms.

 

24.      ASIAN WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2022

          35th Edition of Asian Wrestling Championships 2022 held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

          Indian wrestlers secured a total of 17 medals, that includes (1-Gold, 5-Silver, 11-Bronze medals).

Gold Medalist:

          Ravi Kumar Dahiya is the only Gold medalist representing India, in the men’s 57kg freestyle category, beating Kazakhstan’s RakhatKalzhan on technical superiority.

26.      NAGCHALA AIRPORT IN MANDI,HIMACHAL PRADESH

          The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and Government of Himachal Pradesh (HP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a Greenfield Airport with the project cost of Rs 900 crore in Nagchala, Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.

          Himachal Pradesh consists of 3 airports at Shimla, Kullu, and Kangra

          5 heliports at Kangnidhar, Shimla, Rampur, Baddi, and SASE(Manali) are being developed which would give a massive boost to tourism industry of the state once completed

27.      AGRA TO GET COUNTRY’S FIRST VACUUM-BASED SEWER SYSTEM

          The city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh has become the first in India to adopt vacuum-based sewerage. These vacuum sewers will be placed in public areas.

          The maintenance and complete care of the sewers for up to five years will be done by the Netherlands company.

 

28.      MAURITIUS PM PRAVIND KUMAR JUGNAUTH’S VISIT TO INDIA

          The Prime Minister (PM) of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth was on an official 8-day visit to India

          He participated in the ground-breaking ceremony for the WHO-Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat

          He also attended India’s 1st Global Ayush Investment and Innovation Summit 2022 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat

          Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first Community Radio Station (CRS), ‘DudhVani’, dedicated to animal husbandry, during his three-day visit to Gujarat

          The Prime Minister has also dedicated the nation with, an organic manure and biogas plant at Dama, Gujarat.

          It is established by the Banaskantha District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd (Banas Dairy), Palanpur, Guajarat.

          The establishment of DudhVani is the first such initiative for dairy farmers in India, which is the world’s largest milk producing country.

 

30.      JAMTARA BECOMES COUNTRY’S FIRST DISTRICT WITH LIBRARY IN EVERY VILLAGE

          Jamtara in Jharkhand has become the first district in the country to have community libraries in all gram panchayats.

31.      ESTONIA HOSTS THE WORLD’S LARGEST CYBER EXERCISE

          The Tallinn (Estonia)-based North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE), is organising the Locked Shields 2022, the largest and most complex annual international live-fire cyber defence exercise in the world.

          The exercise is organised by the CCDCOE in cooperation with NATO, Siemens, Microsoft, Tallinn University of Technology and other partners.

          Queen Elizabeth II, as the Head of the Commonwealth, has recognised Kishore Kumar Das, representing Bangladesh, as the 223rd Commonwealth Point of Light award

37.      1ST DISTRICT TO COVER 100% HOUSEHOLDS UNDER AB-PMJAY- SEHAT SCHEME

          The Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) Samba District has became the first district in India to cover 100 percent households under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan ArogyaYojana (AB-PMJAY)- SEHAT (Social, Endeavour for Health And Telemedicine) scheme.

          AB-PMJAY-SEHAT provides free of cost insurance to cover all the residents of the UT of J&K and It also provides financial cover up to Rs.5 Lakh per family on a floater basis to all residents and an operational extension of PM-JAY to 15 lakh (approximately) additional families.The scheme has no cap on Family size and Age criteria.

          Under the Scheme the people with Ayushman Bharat Golden Card get free cashless treatment of up to Rs. 5 lakhs in all government and empanelled private hospitals across India.

 

38.      INDIA’S FIRST ‘AMRIT SAROVAR’ COMPLETED IN UP’S RAMPUR

          India’s first ‘AmritSarovar‘ has been completed in Shahabad’s Patwai area of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

          As a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (75 years of India’s independence), the Prime Minister declared that each district should have 75 ‘AmritSarovars’ or ponds.

 

39.      PENCILKEY: CONTACTLESS RUPAY CARD INTRODUCED BY PENCILTON

          Pencilton, a teen-focused fintech start-up, has launched PencilKey, a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) compatible RuPay on-the-go contactless keychain for teens, in collaboration with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Transcorp PPI.

          The app is more than a payment app; it also allows for gamified learning about money, which is powered by interactive community interaction.

          Pencilton is India’s first app for kids & teens to manage and spend pocket money while learning about money in a fun, gamified way.

          Pencilton is an initiative of BITS Pilani, IIM & USC alumni.

 

40.      PERU GOVT AWARD- “MERIT IN THE DIPLOMATIC SERVICE OF PERU JOSÉ GREGORIO PAZ SOLDÁN”

          Ardeshir B.K. Dubash, the former Honorary Consul of Peru, Mumbai,  was honoured with the Order of “Merit in the Diplomatic Service of Peru José Gregorio Paz Soldán”, the highest distinction conferred by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Peru.

          Ardeshir B.K. Dubash served as the Honorary Consul of Peru for a period of around 50 years since 1973.

          Vijay Sampla, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) for a 2nd time.

          S Iqbal Singh Lalpura, is appointed Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities(NCM).

          In September 2021, he was appointed as the chairman of NCM and later he resigned from the post to contest in the Punjab Assembly Election as BJP candidate from Ropar constituency.

          World Day for Safety and Health at Work is annually observed across the globe on 28th April to create awareness about the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally.

          The annual observance of the day is led and organised by the International Labour Organization (ILO).

          Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi inaugurated the 7th Edition of Raisina Dialogue – Raisina Dialogue 2022, which was held in New Delhi, Delhi.

          The Raisina Dialogue is India’s premier conference on geopolitics and geoeconomics, committed to addressing the world’s most pressing concerns. It is named after Raisina Hill, the seat of the Government of India.

 

45.      CAMPAIGN ‘AZADI SE ANTYODAYATAK’ LAUNCHED

          Giriraj Singh, Union Minister for Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) and Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), launched ‘Azadi Se AntyodayaTak’, a 90-day campaign with a mission to saturate 75 Districts across 28 States and Union Territories (UTs) with 17 select beneficiary schemes of 9 Central Ministries.

          Nodal Ministry – The Implementation, Monitoring and Outcome of the campaign will be under the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD).

 

46.      INDIA RANKED 21ST IN ESTIMATED CRYPTO GAINS IN 2021

          In accordance with the data released by crypto analytics firm Chainalysis, investors around the world realized total Crypto gains of $162.7 billion in 2021, compared to $32.5 billion in 2020.

          However, India ranked lowly at 21st with realized gains of around $1.85 billion while it is topped by the United States (US) with an estimated realized Crypto gain of $49.95 billion.

 

47.      RUSSIA WITHDRAWS FROM UN WORLD TOURISM ORGANIZATION AMID UKRAINE WAR

          UN World Tourism Organization (WTO) Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili announced that Russia has withdrawn from the UNWTO ahead of a vote by the body to suspend Russia’s membership over its invasion of Ukraine.

          Earlier in March, the UNWTO announced that it wanted to suspend Russia for its war against Ukraine. It was the first U.N. body to address Russia’s membership.

 

48.      RBI IMPOSED PENALTY OF RS 1.12 CR ON BANK OF MAHARASHTRA

          The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1.12 crore on the Bank of Maharashtra(BoM), a Public Sector Bank, for non-compliance pertains to certain directions issued under the Know Your Customer (KYC) Directions, of 2016.

          RBI has also imposed a penalty of Rs 25 lakh on Haryana State Co-operative Apex Bank Limited for non-compliance with its directions on Housing Finance.

          RBI has also imposed a penalty of Rs 12 lakh on Rajkot Nagarik Sahakari Bank Limited for non-compliance with ‘Interest Rate on Deposits.

          The 9.02 km long Atal Tunnel built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), has won the Indian Building Congress (IBC) Awards for Excellence in Built Environment 2021 under the Best Infrastructure Project category.

          The Atal Tunnel is the longest highway tunnel globally and connects Manali to Lahaul-Spiti valley throughout the year. Previously the valley was cut off for around 6 months due to heavy snow.

          The IBC awards instituted in 1996 is an annual award which recognises the much-needed attention of society to the contributions being made by the professionals in the field of Built Environment.

 

50.      INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY 2022 – 29TH APRIL

          The day (29th April) also marks the birth anniversary of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet.

          The International Dance Committee (IDC) of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) is responsible for the events related to International Dance Day and the release of the International Message.

          International Dance Day Message: Every year, a message from an outstanding choreographer or dancer is circulated throughout the world on the occasion of International Dance Day.

          The author of the 2022 International Dance Day Message is Kang Sue Jin, South Korean Dancer and Artistic Director of the Korean National Ballet.
