1.       WTO’S 12TH MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE - GENEVA, SWITZERLAND

·         The World Trade Organization’s (WTO) 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) was co-hosted by Switzerland, and Kazakhstan at WTO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland after a gap of almost five years.

·         It was attended by the Trade ministers of 164 nations.

·         It was chaired by Timur Suleimenov, Deputy Chief of Staff of Kazakhstan’s President.

 

2.       EU RECOMMENDS CANDIDATE STATUS FOR UKRAINE & MOLDOVA

·         The European Commission has made a historic step in recommending that Ukraine and Moldova be granted European Union (EU) candidate status, paving the way for them to progress from former Soviet republics to developed economies in the world’s largest trade bloc, the EU.

·         Ukraine and Moldova’s path to full membership in the EU, a 27-nation union, might take years due to the need for reforms to meet democratic and anti-corruption standards.

·         Transparency International ranks Ukraine as one of the world’s most corrupt countries, ranking 122 out of 180 governments.

 

3.       AIRTEL LAUNCHES INDIA’S 1ST MULTIPLEX IN THE METAVERSE 

·         BhartiAirtel (Airtel), has launched Xstream multiplex, India’s first multiplex in the metaverse on the Partynite Metaverse platform.

·         The Xstream multiplex is an extension of Airtel’sXstream Premium offering.

·         Xstream is a 20-screen platform with access to content portfolios from leading (Over-The-Top) OTT partners available on its application.

 

4.       US, CANADA, & MEXICO TO HOST FIFA WORLD CUP 2026

·         For the first time ever, the FIFA world Cup will be shared by three countries, i.e. the ‘FIFA world Cup 2026’ will be held in the United States (US), Canada, and Mexico. FIFA has selected 16 cities from these countries through a bid.

·         It will also be the first time that 48 teams will feature in the tournament, an increase from the 32 that will contest in FIFA World Cup 2022 will be held in Qatar.
