1.       ICICI BANK REAPPOINTS SANDEEP BAKSHI AS MD & CEO

·         The board of directors of ICICI Bank has reappointed Sandeep Bakshi as the Managing Director(MD) and Chief Executive Officer(CEO) for a period of 3 years

·         ICICI Bank Headquarters– Mumbai, Maharashtra

 

2.       ISRO’S ROCKET LVM3 SUCCESSFULLY PLACES  36 SATELLITES

·         The Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) heaviest rocket Launch Vehicle Mark 3 (LVM3 or GSLV Mark 3) in its first commercial mission, ‘LVM3 M2/OneWeb India-1 mission’, successfully placed 36 Gen -1 broadband communication satellites of the United Kingdom (UK)-based customer Network Access Associated Limited (OneWeb Ltd) into the Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

·         The rocket was launched from the second launch pad (SLP) of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR (SDSC SHAR), Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh (AP).

3.       US GRAND PRIX 2022

·         Belgian-Dutch Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing won the 2022 Formula 1 Aramco United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, United States (US).

·         Max Verstappen is the current 2022 Formula One World Champion.

·         With this, he equaled Germany’s Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher’s record of 13 wins in a Formula 1 season.

·         Verstappen defeated United Kingdom’s Lewis Hamilton who drives for Mercedes

 

4.       77TH UNITED NATIONS DAY 2022 – OCTOBER 24

·         The United Nations(UN) Day is annually observed across the globe on 24th October to mark the anniversary of the coming into force of the charter of the United Nations(UN).

·         In 1945, the representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco, United States of America(USA) at the UN Conference on International Organization to draw up the United Nations Charter.

 

5.       WORLD POLIO DAY 2022 – OCTOBER 24

·         World Polio Day is annually observed across the world on 24th October to highlight the importance of the efforts to eradicate poliomyelitis (polio), the infectious disease which commonly affects children aged under 5.

·         Polio Day also marks the birth anniversary of Jonas Salk who led the first team to develop a vaccination against polio and began its testing in 1953.

·         The theme of World Polio Day 2022 is “ World Polio Day 2022 and Beyond: A healthier future for mothers and children”.

 

6.       WORLD EGG DAY 2022 – OCTOBER 14

·         World Egg Day is annually observed across the globe on the 2nd Friday of October 

·         The theme of World Egg Day 2022 is ‘Eggs for a better life’.

 

7.       WHO RELEASES ‘WHO FUNGAL PRIORITY PATHOGENS LIST’

·         The World Health Organization (WHO) has released the “WHO Fungal Priority Pathogens List” (WHO FPPL), a report that highlights the first-ever list of fungal “priority pathogens,” a catalogue of the 19 fungi that pose the greatest harm to public health.

·         The report is based on research conducted by the University of Sydney in Australia.

·         Aim is to focus and promote more research and policy measures to boost the global response to fungal infections and antifungal resistance.

8.       BEST POLICE TRAINING INSTITUTIONS 2020-21

·         Hyderabad(Telangana) based National Industrial Security Academy(NISA) premier training institute of CISF(Central Industrial Security Force) in Industrial Security and Disaster Management has won the Union Home Minister(HM)’s Trophy for the Best Police Training Institutions 2020-21 under the Gazetted Officers(GO) Training Institutes Category.

·         The academy achieved this feat during the serving tenure of C V Anand(previous Director of NISA) who is currently serving as the Hyderabad Police Commissioner.

 

9.       RISHI SUNAK SWORN-IN AS UK’S PRIME MINISTER

·         Conservative party leader Rishi Sunak (42) becomes the United Kingdom’s (UK) first Indian-origin Prime Minister.

·         He was appointed by King Charles III. He succeeded Liz Truss, who resigned as PM after just 44 days in power.

·         He is the youngest leader of the UK since 1812, after PM William Pitt, who was 24 years old when he took on the role in 1783.

·         Rishi Sunak first became a Member of Parliament (MP) in 2015. He was elected from Richmond, Yorkshire.

·         He is married to British-Indian fashion designer Akshata Murty, who is the daughter of Infosys founder N.R. Narayana Murthy

·         John Glen was appointed as Chief Secretary to the Treasury

·         Indian-origin Suella Braverman re-appointed as Home Secretary

·         Jeremy Hunt re-appointed as British Finance Minister

 

10.    SANGEETA VERMA APPOINTED AS ACTING CHAIRPERSON OF CCI 

·         The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) appointed Dr Sangeeta Verma, a Member of the Competition Commission of India (CCI), as an acting Chairperson of the CCI for 3 months till the appointment of regular Chairperson.

·         Sangeeta Verma’s appointment follows the resignation of the full-time chairperson Ashok Kumar Gupta

·         Minister of Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman ( Rajya Sabha- Karnataka)

 

11.    INDIAN BANKS’ ASSOCIATION ELECTS AK GOEL AS CHAIRMAN 

·         The Managing Committee of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) re-elected Atul Kumar Goel, Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Director (CEO) of Punjab National Bank (PNB), as its new Chairman for the Financial year (FY) 2022-2023.

12.    SHEFALI JUNEJA ELECTED AS CHAIRPERSON OF ATC OF ICAO

·         Dr Shefali Juneja was elected as the chairperson of the Air Transport Committee (ATC) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a specialized agency of the United Nations.

·         She becomes the 1st Indian to hold the position in 28 years.

·         ATC is a standing committee of ICAO created by the Chicago Convention in1944.

 

13.    DENMARK OPEN BADMINTON 2022

·         It was the 17th edition of Denmark Open

·         China has dominated the tournament by winning mixed doubles, women’s doubles, women’s singles and men’s singles.

14.    MELTWATER CHAMPIONS CHESS TOUR 2022

·         Norway’s Magnus Carlsen wins Melt water Champions Chess Tour 2022 by defeating India’s Arjun Erigaisi during the semifinals of the Aimchess Rapid tournament

·         The tour started on February 19, 2022 and will last until November 20, 2022.

·         India’s 16 years old GM Gukesh D. rom Chennai became the youngest player to beat Magnus Carlsen

 

15.    WORLD SUSTAINABILITY DAY 2022 – OCTOBER 26 

·         World Sustainability Day is annually observed across the globe on the 4th Wednesday of October to raise awareness of the value of environmental protection and the actions that may be taken.

·         World Sustainability Day 2022 was observed on 26th October 2022.

·         The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969 introduced the idea of sustainable development

·         NEPA was the 1st major environmental law in the United States.

·         It is often called the “Magna Carta” of Federal environmental laws.

·         IIT-Madras launches ‘Punch the Plastic’ Campaign as part of World Sustainability Day
