1.       BLUE FLAG TO 2 BEACHES IN LAKSHADWEEP

·         The two Indian beaches, Minicoy Thundi Beach and Kadmat Beach, both in Lakshadweep have been accorded with the globally recognized and the coveted International eco-label ‘Blue Flag’.

·         They comply with all the 33 criteria as mandated by the Foundation for Environment Education (FEE) in Denmark.

·         With this certification, India’s total number of beaches under the Blue Flag reached 12.

·         Blue Flag certification:is a globally recognized certification /eco-label accorded by FEE to the cleanest beaches in the world. 

 

2.       VILLAGE MODHERA BECOMES INDIA’S 1ST NET-ZERO ENERGY COMMUNITY

·         India’s first solar-powered village Modhera in the Mehsana district of Gujarat has become India’s first ‘net-zero’ energy community by meeting its 100% energy requirements using onsite solar power.

·         This was achieved as a result of Project Suryagram(Sun Village).

·         As a part of the project, 1 kilowatt(KW) of solar panels were installed on the roof of every household in Modhera in 2 phases.

 

3.       TIGER TRIUMPH 2022: INDIA & US EXERCISE AT VISAKHAPATNAM

·         The 2nd edition of India-United States (US) Tri-Services HADR (Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief) Exercise, ‘Tiger Triumph 2022’ was held at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP) between the Indian Navy (IN) and US Navy.

·         In February 2022, the US joined India and more than thirty other nations for India’s Bi-Annual Exercise Milan.

 

4.       MOPA AIRPORT IN GOA TO HAVE 2 AIRPORTS

·         The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) grants the Aerodrome Licence to Mopa Airport in Goa.

·         Goa is the 1st Indian city-state to have 2 airports that will soon see regular commercial flights.

·         There are 131 active airports in India at the moment.

 

5.       IEA WORLD ENERGY OUTLOOK 2022

·         According to the World Energy Outlook 2022, released by the International Energy Agency (IEA), global emissions will reach their peak in 2025 as rising energy prices brought on by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine encourage investment in Renewable Energy sources.

·         Global emissions reach their peak before 2025 and drop to 31.5 Gigatonnes (Gt) of Carbon dioxide (CO2) in 2030, which is roughly 15% less than in the Scenario of Stated Policies (STEPS).

6.       UNICEF REPORT ON HEATWAVES

·         United Nations Children’s Fund(UNICEF) report titled “The coldest year of the rest of their lives: Protecting children from the escalating impacts of heat waves”, estimates that by 2050, every child 9 over 2 billion) across the globe will be exposed to more frequent, longer lasting, and more severe heat waves up from 24% of children in 2020. 

·         At present, around 559 million children across the globe are exposed to high heat wave frequency.

·         A heatwave is a period of 3 days or more when the maximum temperature each day is in the top 10% of the local 15-day average.

 

7.       DELHI AIRPORT EMERGES AS WORLD’S 10TH BUSIEST AIRPORT

·         According to the report published by OAG Aviation Worldwide Limited in October 2022, Delhi Airport also known as Indira Gandhi International Airport or IGI Airport in New Delhi, Delhi has been named the world’s 10th busiest global airport by seats. 

·         In October 2022, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America(USA) remained the world’s busiest airport.

·         Dubai International and Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport ) have secured the 2nd and 3rd rank respectively.

·         In a different report, OAG stated that Mumbai to Delhi is among the global top 10 busiest domestic airline routes (ranked 9th) and Mumbai to Dubai is among the Global top 10 Busiest International Airline routes (ranked 9th).

·         Jeju International – Seoul Gimpo tops the list of Global Top 10 Busiest Domestic Airline Routes.

·         Kuala Lumpur – Singapore Changi tops the list of Global Top 10 Busiest International Airline Routes.

 

8.       IRDAI APPROVED ‘BIMA SUGAM’ PORTAL

·         The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) approved the launch of Bima Sugam, an online marketplace that will house all companies selling life and non-life insurance on a single platform w.e.f. January 1, 2023.

·         The key stakeholders in Bima Sugam are going to be Life Insurance Council (30%), General Insurance Council at (30%), Online PSBs-Public Sector Banks (35%) and Brokers Association (5%).

9.       USA IS INDIA’S LARGEST TRADING PARTNER

·         According to the most recent data available with the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), Russia has moved from 25th place in 2021 to become India’s seventh-largest trading partner.

·         The United States (US) emerged as India’s biggest trading partner from April – August of FY23, with a trade volume of USD 57,632.37 million.

·         China is at 2nd place and UAE at 3rd
In September 2022, Russia became India’s second-largest crude oil supplier.

·         85% of India’s petroleum needs are met through imports.

·         India is the third-largest consumer and importer of oil globally.

 

10.    STANFORD UNIVERSITY TOP SCIENTISTS RANKINGS FOR 2022

·         Nine scientists in Puducherry are listed among the top scientists in the world in the most recent Stanford University rankings for 2022.

·         The Stanford University rankings were launched in 2019 as a method to categorise scientists worldwide into 176 sub-fields and 22 main fields.

·         More than 2 lakh experts working in diverse fields of research are included in the top 2% of scientists worldwide; 3,796 of these scientists are from India.

 

11.    NATIONAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AWARDS 2021 & 2022

·         Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has been conferred the National Intellectual Property(IP) Awards 2021 and 2022 by the Government of India for being the top Indian Academic Institution for patents filing, grants and commercialisation.

·         The award is presented by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.

 

12.    PRADEEP SINGH KHAROLA APPOINTED CMD OF ITPO

·         The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has appointed Former Civil Aviation Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola as Chairman and Managing Director(CMD) of India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO)

·         The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had cleared Subrahmanyam’s appointment as Chairman and Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organization but Subrahmanyam declined.

 

13.    76TH INFANTRY DAY – 27TH OCTOBER 2022

·         The day marks the anniversary of the 1st military event of Independent India which took place in the Kashmir Valley against Pakistani invaders on 27th October 1947.

·         In 2022, the Indian Army and the Air Force celebrate the 27th October as “Shaurya Diwas”, since the day also marks the golden jubilee celebration of the Kashmir Air Base of the Indian Air Force.

 

14.    INDIA SUFFERED INCOME LOSS OF 5.4% OF GDP DUE TO HEATWAVE IN 2021: LANCET REPORT

·         As per the 7th Lancet Report of ‘Lancet Countdown on health and climate change: health at the mercy of fossil fuels’, India suffered loss of 167.2 billion potential labour hours in 2021 due to heat waves which resulted in income loss equal to 5.4% of India’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product), the highest among the G20 nations in 2021.

·         India faced 55% increase in deaths due to extreme heat between 2000-2004 and 2017-2021.

 

15.    SINGAPORE- INDIAN NAVY MARITIME EXERCISE -SIMBEX 2022

·         The Indian Navy will hold the 29th edition of the Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX), a joint naval combat exercise in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP).

·         SIMBEX-2022 is being held in two phases: The Harbour Phase in Visakhapatnam and the Sea Phase in the Bay of Bengal.

·         The SIMBEX series of exercises began in 1994 under the name Exercise Lion King.

 

16.    HYDERABADI HALEEM WINS THE ‘MOST POPULAR GI’ AWARD

·         Hyderabadi Haleem has won the ‘Most Popular Geographical Indications (GI)’ Award in competition with 17 food items from across India including Rasgulla, Bikaneri Bhujia and Ratlami Sev, which are other popular GI dishes.

·         In 2010, Hyderabadi Haleem was awarded the GI status, which had expired in 2019. This was India’s first meat based food to get GI Tag.

 

17.    RRR WINS BEST INTERNATIONAL FILM AT SATURN AWARDS 2022

·         SS Rajamouli’s RRR-Rise Roar Revolt”, an Indian Telugu film, has won the Best International Film Award at the 47th edition of Saturn Awards 2022 by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films, held in Los Angeles, California.

·         ‘RRR’ becomes the 2nd Indian film to win the Saturn Award after SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali- The Conclusion’.

·         The Saturn Award was established by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films in 1972.

 

18.    BOOK “DELHI UNIVERSITY: CELEBRATING 100 GLORIOUS YEARS” BY HARDEEP S. PURI 

·         Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India(GOI) authored a new book titled “DELHI UNIVERSITY: Celebrating 100 Glorious Years”.

·         Amitabh Bachchan, Indian Actor, has written the foreword of the book.
