1.         10TH SULTAN OF JOHAR CUP 2022

·           India has won the 10th edition of Sultan of Johar Cup 2022 beating Australia in international men’s under–21 field hockey tournament which was held at Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Bahru, Malaysia 

·           It was India’s 3rd win after 2014 and 2013.

·           The top-scorer at the tournament was India’s Sharda Nand Tiwari with 7 goals.

·           The tournament saw the participation of 6 teams viz. India, Australia, Great Britain, Japan, Malaysia, and South Africa.

 

2.         JAMSHED J IRANI, ‘STEEL MAN OF INDIA’, PASSES AWAY

·           Padma Bhushan Awardee Jamshed J Irani, who was also known as the “Steel man of India”, passed away at the age of 86 years at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

·           He was associated with Tata Steel for over 4 decades and retired from the board of Tata Steel in June 2011.

·           He was conferred the Padma Bhushan (2007) for his contribution to the steel industry.

·           He was also a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Government of India (GoI) in 2008 for his services in the area of metallurgy.

 

3.         WORLD VEGAN DAY – NOVEMBER 1 2022

·           World Vegan Day is annually observed across the globe on 1st November to promote veganism and vegan diet.

·           On 1st November 1994, Louise Wallis, the chair of The Vegan Society, the United Kingdom (UK), established the annual observance of World Vegan Day on 1st November.

 

4.         “PERMACRISIS” - COLLINS DICTIONARY AS WORD OF THE YEAR 2022

·           Collins Dictionary has announced “Permacrisis”, a noun which describes an extended period of instability and insecurity, as the Collins Word of the Year 2022.

·           The term Permacrisis embodies the sense of facing unprecedented events one after another.

·           Permacrisis is also one of six new words on the list added to CollinsDictionary.com.

 

5.         MATA AMRITANANDAMAYI APPOINTED AS CHAIR OF C20

·           The Government of India(GoI) has appointed Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma) as the Chair of the country’s Civil 20 (C20), an official engagement group of the Group of 20 (G20).

·           The C20 is G20s platform for civil-society organisations (CSOs) to bring forth non-government and non-business voices to the G20 leaders.

·           The G20 is the premier inter-governmental forum for the world’s developed and emerging economies to address financial stability on a global basis.

·           India will assume the Presidency of the G20 for one year from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2023.

·           G20 Leaders’ Summit is going to be held in New Delhi from September 9 to 10, 2023.

 

6.         MANGARHDHAM IN RAJASTHAN DECLARED AS NATIONAL MONUMENT

·           PM Narendra Modi visited Rajasthan’s Banswara district, where he attended a public programme ‘MangarhDhamki Gaurav Gatha’ at Mangarh Hill, Banswara, Rajasthan.

·           During the programme, MangarhDham in the Banswara District of Rajasthan was declared as a National Monument.

 

7.         PERFORMANCE GRADING INDEX FOR STATES/UTS FOR THE YEAR 2020-21

·           The Performance Grading Index (PGI) for States/Union Territories (UTs) for 2020–21, a special index for evidence-based comprehensive analysis of the school education system across States & UTs, was released by the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L), Ministry of Education (MoE).

·           The PGI structure consists of 1000 points over 70 indicators divided into 2 categories: Outcomes & Governance Management (GM).

·           The highest achievable Grade is Level 1, which is for State/UTs achieving more than 950 points out of a total of 1000 points.

·           Level 10, which is given for scores below 551, is the lowest grade.

·           7 states and union territories have attained Level 2 (score 901-950) in 2020-21. These are Kerala, Punjab, Chandigarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh.

 

8.         WTO TO INCREASE PRESENCE AT COP 27

·           The World Trade Organization (WTO) will take a substantial role in the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC (UN Climate Change), which will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt, from November 6–18, 2022.

·           Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General (DG) of the WTO, will attend world leaders’ summit events.

·           The WTO’s World Trade Report 2022, titled “Climate Change and International Trade”, will also be released at COP27.

·           At COP 26 in Glasgow, United Kingdom (UK), India defied pressure from developed nations to accept a 2050 deadline for reaching “net zero emissions” and instead extended it by 20 years to 2070.

 

9.         IPPB CONDUCTS INDIA’S 1ST FLOATING FINANCIAL LITERACY CAMP IN J&K

·           India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) along with ‘NiveshakDidi’an initiative to promote financial literacy “By the women, for the women”, conducted India’s First Floating Financial Literacy Camp in Srinagar,  Jammu & Kashmir (J&K).

·           NiveshakDidi was launched by IPPB in collaboration with Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) under the aegis of Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) to promote Financial Literacy.

·           IPPB  has been established under the Department of Posts, under the Ministry of Communication and 100 percent owned by the Government of India (GoI).

 

10.      FRENCH CHEVALIER AWARD TO CARNATIC VOCALIST ARUNASAIRAM

·           French Government has honoured Indian Carnatic Vocalist ArunaSairam with Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite, the Knight of the Order of the Merit, in recognition of her singing talent and her contribution to the development of Indo-France relations.

·           Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite is a French order of merit with membership awarded by the President of the French Republic.

·           She is a disciple of legendary vocalist, SangitaKalanidhi T. Brinda.

·           She founded the “Nadayogam Trust” in 2011 to work towards the musical education of underprivileged students.

·           She was given Padma Shri (Arts) by Government of India  in 2009

 

11.      FICCI ANNOUNCES SUBHRAKANT PANDA AS ITS PRESIDENT

·           The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) announced Subhrakant Panda, Senior Vice President of FICCI & Managing Director (MD) of Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA), as its President-Elect (2022-2023).

·           He is the 1st Odisha industrialist to hold a top position in FICCI.

12.      DRDO CONDUCTS FLIGHT-TEST OF BALLISTIC MISSILE DEFENCE INTERCEPTOR

·           Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful maiden flight-test of the phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence(BMD) interceptor AD-1 missile from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.

·           The AD-1 is a long-range interceptor missile designed for both low exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception of long-range ballistic missiles and aircraft.

13.      INDIAN ARMY REGISTERS IPR FOR CAMOUFLAGE PATTERN UNIFORM

·           According to the Ministry of Defence (MOD), the Indian Army has registered the “Intellectual Property Rights” (IPR) of the new Camouflage Pattern and Design of the Improved Combat Uniform.

·           The new Indian Army combat uniform features a “unique digital disruptive pattern” and was unveiled on Army Day i.e., January 15, 2022.

·           The Indian Army can take civil legal action before a competent court of law to enforce its exclusive rights to the design and file infringement lawsuits.

 

14.      EPFO COVERAGE CHART: DELHI TOPS

·           According to the vision document of Employee Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) released in November 2022, Delhi topped the chart in terms of the EPFO coverage with 61.5% of their working population under the social security ambit of the organisation.

·           EPFO coverage is at its lowest in Tripura(2.1%), Assam(2.8%), and Meghalaya(2.8%).

·           Delhi is followed by Goa at 2nd spot with 51.4% and Haryana at 3rd spot with 35.3%.

·           The % of EPFO coverage of the working population for 15 out of 26 states and Union Territories is below the national average of 13.5%.

·           In terms of the absolute number of working-age population covered by EPFO, Maharashtra tops the list with 11.9 million EPFO subscribers, followed by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

·           EPFO under the Ministry of Labour and Employment is one of the World’s largest Social Security Organisations in terms of clientele and the volume of financial transactions undertaken.

 

15.      INDIA RANKS 31ST IN US NEWS & WORLD REPORT’S BEST COUNTRIES 2022

·           According to the US News & World Report’s overall Best Countries 2022 ranking, India has bagged the 31st rank among 85 countries.

·           Switzerland has topped the list followed by Germany and Canada.

·           India has topped the list of nations with the cheapest manufacturing costsby global survey respondents, followed by China and Vietnam.

·           The factors into the Best Countries rankings and Open for Business sub ranking.

 

16.      WBG REPORT ANALYSIS – CLIMATE AND DEVELOPMENT: AN AGENDA FOR ACTION 

·           According to the analysis “Climate and Development: An Agenda for Action,” investing an average of 1.4% of gross domestic product (GDP) yearly could reduce emissions in developing nations by as much as 70% by 2050 and build resilience.

·           The analysis, “Climate and Development: An Agenda for Action,” collects and harmonizes findings from the Country Climate and Development Reports (CCDRs) of the World Bank Group (WBG), which cover more than 20 countries and are accountable for 34% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

·           Low-income countries often have higher investment demands, requiring up to 8% of their GDP.

19.      BENJAMIN NETANYAHU BECOMES ISRAELI PM

·           Former Israeli Prime Minister(PM) Benjamin Netanyahu head of the right-wing Likud party won the 25th elections of Israel’s parliament (Knesset) defeating the interim PM YairLapid of YeshAtid, a centre-left political party.

·           Benjamin Netanyahu won the election by capturing 64 seats in Israel’s 120-seat Knesset.

20.      PORTAL ON NATIONAL MISSION ON NATURAL FARMING

·           Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, launched the NMNF portal(National Mission On Natural Farming (NMNF) Management And Knowledge Portal) during the first steering committee meeting of the National Natural Farming Mission held at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, Delhi.

21.      2022 ASIAN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

·           Grandmaster Praggnanandhaa R and Women Grandmaster Nandhidhaa P V became theAsian Champions by winning the Asian Continental Chess Championship 2022 in theOpen and Women’s sections respectively.

·           Asian Continental Chess Championship 2022 was held in New Delhi

·           The event also served as qualification for the World Cup 2023.

·           The top four players in the Open and two players in the Women category qualified for the World cup.

·           Praggnanandhaa won the title by defeating compatriot B Adhiban in the finals.

·           Nandhidhaa P V won the title by defeating DivyaDeshmukh in the finals.
