1.       ‘CITY FINANCE RANKINGS 2022’ PORTAL GOES LIVE

·         The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has made the portal ‘City Finance Rankings 2022’ www.cityfinance.in/rankings, live on March 20, 2023, to evaluate, recognize and reward Urban Local Bodies (ULBs)  across India on the basis of the quality of their current financial health and improvement over time in financial performance.

·         The portal will enable the ULBs across India to participate in the Rankings through an entirely digital, 100% paperless, process.

·         In accordance with the guidelines, the participating ULBs under the portal will be evaluated on 15 indicators across 3 key municipal finance assessment parameters, such as – Resource Mobilization, Expenditure Performance, and Fiscal Governance.

 

2.       1ST CROSS-BORDER ENERGY PIPELINE IBFP BETWEEN INDIA & BANGLADESH

·         The Prime Minister (PM) of India, Narendra Modi and Bangladesh PM, Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurated (virtually) the 131.5-kilometre-long India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline (IBFP), the first cross-border energy pipeline between India and Bangladesh.

·         The IBFP is a cross-border pipeline that connects Siliguri in West Bengal, India to Parbatipur in the Dinajpur district of Bangladesh.

·         The pipeline stretches around 5km inside India and 125km inside Bangladesh’s territory.

 

3.       L20 MEETING IN AMRITSAR, PUNJAB

·         The Labour-20 (L20) engagement group of the G20 (Group of Twenty) adopted two joint statements as the ultimate outcome of the two-day discussions at its inception meeting in Amritsar, Punjab, as part of India’s G20 Presidency.

·         The two joint statements are Joint Statement on Universalisation of Social Security and Joint Statement on Women and the Future of Work

·         As India is the official host for the G-20 in 2023, BharatiyaMazdoorSangh, India’s largest trade union, has been appointed chair to host the L-20.

·         Hiranmay Pandya is the Chair of L20 in 2023.

·         India holds the G20 Presidency from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023.

·         The theme for India’s G20 Presidency is “VasudhaivaKutumbakam”.

 

4.       SANGITA KALANIDHI AWARD 2023

·         Bombay Jayashri, Padma Shri Awardee and Carnatic vocalist, has been selected for the SangitaKalanidhi award 2023, the highest accolade in the field of Carnatic music, of the Music Academy Awards.

·         VasanthalakshmiNarasimhachari, a well-known and highly respected performer, teacher, and choreographer of the Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi styles of Indian classical dance, has been selected for the NrityaKalanidhi award 2023.

·         Carnatic singer PalkulangaraAmbika Devi of Kerala and MridangamvidwanK.S. Kalidas, a student of VidwanPalani M. Subramania Pillai, will receive the 2023 Sangita Kala Acharya award.

·         The Musicologist award will be conferred on Arimalam S. Padmanabhan who has been doing research in classical music, dance, theatre, folk music, and classical Tamil literature.

 

5.       HERO INDIAN SUPER LEAGUE (ISL) 2022–23

·         ATKMohun Bagan (ATKMB) Football Club(FC) won their first Indian Super League (ISL) title by defeating Bengaluru FC in the finals of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2022–23 held in Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Margoa, Goa.

·         Golden Boot- Diego Mauricio (Odisha FC)

·         The Hero Indian Super League (ISL) is India’s unrivalled football championship which kicked off in 2014.

 

6.       ASIA CUP 2023 ARCHERY STAGE-1 WORLD RANKING TOURNAMENT

·         The Indian archers’ team won 10 medals – five gold, four silver and one bronze at the Asia Cup 2023 archery stage-1 world ranking tournament which was held in Taoyuan, Chinese Taipei.

·         India secured gold medals in the men’s recurve and compound, women’s compound, recurve men’s team and compound women’s team events.

 

7.       BOOK “A MATTER OF THE HEART: EDUCATION IN INDIA”

·         Anurag Behar, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Azim Premji Foundation has authored a new book titled “A Matter of the Heart: Education in India”, a travel book that chronicles experiences of Anurag Behar at work at the Azim Premji Foundation, is a compilation of all his columns.

·         Anurag Behar is one of India’s leading educationists and social sector leaders

 

8.       BOOK “CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ”

·         ShrimantKokate, popular Marathi author and historian, whose 1st book in English, ChhatrapatiShivajiMaharaj (illustrated) was launched.

·         The book originally authored in Marathi and published by Marathi Prakashan has been translated into English by DilipChavan.

 

9.       INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION 2023 – MARCH 21

·         International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2023  marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a blueprint for international human rights principles.

·         The theme of International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2023 focuses on ‘the urgency of combating racism and racial discrimination, 75 years after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights(UDHR)”.

10.    WORLD POETRY DAY 2023 – MARCH 21

·         United Nations (UN)’s World Poetry Day is annually observed across the globe on March 21 to promote the reading, writing, publishing, and teaching of poetry.

·         World Poetry Day theme “Always be a poet, even in prose”.

·         The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at its 30th General Conference in Paris, France, in 1999 1st adopted March 21 as World Poetry Day.

11.    WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY – MARCH 21 2023

·         The United Nations(UN)’s World Down Syndrome Day(WDSD) is annually observed across the globe on 21st March to create awareness about Down Syndrome

·         The theme of WSDS 2023 is “With Us Not For Us”. The 2023 theme is a key to a human rights-based approach to disability.

·         Awareness Ribbon: The blue and yellow ribbon is used as the symbol of Down SyndromeAwareness.

 

12.    AFINDEX-2023: AFRICA-INDIA FIELD TRAINING EXERCISE

·         The 2nd edition of the Africa-India Field Training Exercise (AFINDEX-2023) between India and 23 African nations began at the Foreign Training Node in Aundh, Pune, Maharashtra for training the participating contingents.

·         The theme of the exercise is focused on Humanitarian Mine Action and Peace Keeping Operations.

·         Participating Countries: The field training exercise is attended by 100 participants from Botswana, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Seychelles, Senegal, Sudan, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

 

13.    JAPAN’S PM FUMIO KISHIDA VISIT TO INDIA

·         Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister (PM) of Japan, paid a two-day visit to India and held the ‘Japan-India Summit Meeting 2023’ with PM of India Narendra Modi

·         Japan’s PM, Fumio Kishida, discussed the “Japan-India Special Strategic and Global Partnership” and efforts to realise a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” (FOIP), with a focus on India’s rising prominence in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

 

14.    INS ANDROTHLAUNCHED IN KOLKATA

·         The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Androth, the second in a series of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) was launched in Kolkata, West Bengal.

·         INS Androth was built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), Kolkata, West Bengal.

·         They are 77.6 m long, have a displacement of 900 tons with a maximum speed of 25 knots.

·         The first ship of the series, the INS Arnala, was launched in December 2022. The Arnala class of ships will replace the in-service Abhay class ASW Corvettes of Indian Navy.

·         The INS Androth was named after the largest and longest island from Andrott Island, also known as Androth Island, in the Lakshadweep archipelago.

 

15.    ALL ENGLAND OPEN BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS 2023

·         Li Shi Feng,  from China won the Men’s Singles title defeating Shi Yu Qi from China in the finals.

·         South Korea’s An Se Young, won the women’s singles title by beating Chen Yu Fei of China

·         Indonesian pair FajarAlfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto won the Men’s doubles title

·         Korean pair Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong won the women’s doubles title

·         Chinese pair Zheng Si Wei and Huang YaQiong bagged the Mixed Doubles title.

 

16.    WORLD WATER DAY 2023 – MARCH 22

·         The day aims to inspire people to sustainably manage freshwater resources, address water-related issues and support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: Water and Sanitation for All by 2030.

·         The theme for World Water Day 2023 is “Accelerating the change to solve the water and sanitation crisis.”

·         The United Nations General Assembly designated March 22 as World Water Day in 1993, following the recommendation made by the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1992

 

17.    INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FORESTS 2023 – MARCH 21

·         The day is annually organized by the United Nations Forum on Forests and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UN in collaboration with governments, the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF), and other organizations in the field.

·         Theme “Forests and Health”.
