SEVEN
PM MITRA PARK SITES FOR TEXTILE INDUSTRY
·
The Government of India
(GoI) announced the sites for setting up of 7 PM Mega Integrated Textile
Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks for the Textile industry in the states of
Tamil Nadu (TN), Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh (MP), Uttar
Pradesh (UP) and Maharashtra.
·
The execution of these
parks will be overseen by the Ministry of Textiles. Also, a Special Purpose
Vehicle (SPV) owned by the Centre and State Government in Joint Venture (JV)
mode will be set up for each park for the implementation of the project.
·
The Ministry of
Textiles will provide financial support in the form of Development Capital
Support up to Rs 500 crore per park to the Park SPV.

‘KASHI’
DECLARED AS 1ST TOURISM & CULTURAL CAPITAL OF SCO
·
‘Kashi’ has been declared the First Tourism
& Cultural Capital of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) at the
Meeting of Heads of SCO Tourism Administrations held in Kashi, Varanasi, Uttar
Pradesh.
·
The next meeting of the
SCO Heads of Tourism Administrations was scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan in
2024.

TIME’S
TOP 50 WORLD’S GREATEST PLACES OF 2023
·
India’s Mayurbhanj
District, Odisha and the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh took place
in the TIME Magazine’s list of “World’s Greatest Places of 2023,” which is
highlighting 50 extraordinary destinations to explore.
·
The Mayurbhanj and
Ladakh have been selected for their ‘rare tigers and ancient temples’,
and ‘adventures and eats’, respectively.
·
Mayurbhanjis mentioned
as the only place on earth to spot the exceedingly rare black tiger.
·
Simlipal National Park
in Mayurbhanj is home to over 40 mammals including Asian elephants and Bengal
tigers.
·
In 2023, India
designated its first Dark Sky Reserve, in Hanle village, about 168 miles
southeast of Ladakh’s capital, Leh.

VICE-PRESIDENT
OF NEPAL

Ram Sahaya Prasad
Yadav, the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) candidate and former Minister
for Forests and Environment of Nepal, won the Vice President elections on 17th
March 2023, with 30,328 votes and became the Vice President of Nepal.
·
Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav
becomes the 3rd Vice President of Nepal and the 1st from the Madhes region,
bordering India.
·
He defeated his closest
competitor Ashta Laxmi Shakya of the Communist Party of Nepal(Unified
Marxist–Leninist) (CPN-UML).

ORDNANCE
FACTORY DAY 2023 – MARCH 18
·
Ordnance Factory Day is
annually observed across India by the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) on March 18
to mark the foundation of the 1st Ordnance Factory at Cossipore near Kolkata,
West Bengal, in 1801 and honour the contribution of the Indian Ordnance
Factories (IOFs) in strengthening India’s defence capabilities.

The day is celebrated
by the Indian Ordnance Factories (IOF), under the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

GLOBAL
MILLETS (SHREE ANNA) CONFERENCE 2023 IN DELHI
·
Global Millets (Shree
Anna) Conference 2023 was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra
Modi at Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) Campus, PUSA New Delhi,
Delhi, to promote millets exports from India and give producers access to the
market.
·
Indian millets are
popularly referred to as “Shree Anna” in the international market.
·
The conference was
organised by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development
Authority (APEDA), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI).

WATER
STRESS TO HIT INDIA’S FOOD PRODUCTION BY 2050: GCEW REPORT
·
As per the Global
Commission on Economics of Water (GCEW) report ‘The What, Why and How of
the World Water Crisis: Global Commission on the Economics of Water Phase 1
Review and Findings’, Food supply in India and across the globe will
go down by at least 6% by 2050 as water crisis and heat stress caused by
climate change will hit productivity.
·
Under this scenario,
China is at the top where food supply would be reduced by 22.4%, followed by
South America by 19.4%.
·
GCEW is convened by the
Government of the Netherlands and facilitated by the Organisation for Economic
Co-operation and Development (OECD).
·
Food insecurity affects
72-81 crore people globally and is linked to water insecurity.
·
The fall in production
will push 100 crore people into severe food insecurity.

The AIS app is a free
mobile application providing a comprehensive view of the Annual Information
System, which is a collection of various information about taxpayers.
·
With the launch of the
app, the taxpayer could check full details of taxes and TDS (Tax Deducted at
Source) with just one click.

BNP PARIBAS OPEN 2023
·
Carlos Alcaraz of Spain
defeated Daniil Medvedev (of Russia to win the Men’s Singles title at BNP
Paribas Open 2023(also known as Indian Wells Masters) held in Indian Wells,
California, USA and regained the World’s No 1 rank in the Association of Tennis
Professionals (ATP) rankings that he lost to Novak Djokovic (Serbia) in January
2023.

Matthew Ebden wins Men’s Doubles at BNP
Paribas Open 2023
·
43-year-old Rohan
Bopanna of India and Matthew Ebden (35 years old) of Australia defeated World
No.1 Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands and Neal Skupski of the United
Kingdom(UK) to win the Men’s Doubles title at BNP Paribas Open 2023.
·
With this victory,
43-year-old Rohan Bopanna surpassed his former partner Daniel Nestor of Canada
and became the oldest ATP masters 1000 champion.

globe on 20th March to recognise happiness, the fundamental goal of humans and
to highlight its importance in the lives of people around the world.

The theme
of International Day of Happiness 2023 is “Be Mindful, Be Grateful, Be
Kind”.

SPARROW DAY 2023 – MARCH 20
·
World Sparrow Day (WSD)
is annually observed across the globe on 20th March to create awareness about
the importance of sparrows or common house sparrows (Passer domesticus) and to
promote the efforts towards their conservation.
·
The World Sparrow Day
is annualy observed under the theme “I Love Sparrows” which is inspired
by the hope that more and more of us will celebrate the relationship between
PEOPLE AND SPARROWS.
