1.       DEFENCE MINISTER OF VIETNAM VISIT TO INDIA

        Minister of National Defence of Vietnam, General Phan Van Giang was on a 2 day visit to India in June 2023.

        A bilateral meeting was held between Union Minister Rajanath Singh, India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD), and General Phan Van Giang to enhance India-Vietnam cooperation in defence industries, maritime security and multinational cooperation.

 

2.       INDIA GIFTS INDIGENOUSLY-BUILT MISSILE CORVETTE ‘INS KIRPAN‘ TO VIETNAM

        Indian  gifted an indigenously-built in-service missile corvette INS (Indian Naval Ship)Kirpan to Vietnam to enhance the capabilities of the Vietnam People’s Navy.

        INS Kirpan, a 1,350-tonne Khukri class missilecorvette, on January 12, 1991.

 

3.       INDIAN ARMY CONDUCTED EXERCISE AGNEYASTRA 1

        Indian Army’s Northern Command conducted “Exercise Agneyastra 1” on 19th June 2023, in eastern Ladakh to showcase India’s fire power supremacy.

        Agneyastra means firearms in Hindi.

 

4.       GLOBAL GENDER GAP INDEX 2023

        According to the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) annual Global Gender Gap Report 2023, released, India has closed 64.3% of the overall gender gap and ranked 127th out of 146 countries in terms of gender parity at the Global Gender Gap Index 2023

        Iceland Topped the index followed by Norway and Finland at 2nd and 3rd rank.

5.       EXTREME WEATHER EVENTS LED TO 12MN CHILDREN DISPLACEMENTS IN 2022

        According to the estimates released by UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund)extreme weather events around the world, including unprecedented floods in Pakistan and the drought in the Horn of Africa drought, led to 12 million children displacements in 2022.

        By the end of 2022, a record 43.3 million children lived in forced displacement, and almost 60% (25.8 million) were internally displaced by conflict and violence.

        The number of refugee and asylum-seeking children also hit a new record of 17.5 million, a number that does not even include those newly displaced in 2023 (by the conflict in Sudan).

        According to The Global Report on Internal Displacement 2023 released in May 2023, the number of people displaced by disasters rose by 40% in 2022 compared to 2021.

 

6.       STAR ALLIANCE WINS WORLD’S BEST AIRLINE ALLIANCE

        World Airline Awards in Paris Air Show 2023, Paris, France, Star Alliance is named the World’s Best Airline Alliance Award for Singapore Airlines for the 5th year, and the Star Alliance Lounge at Los Angeles(LA) International Airport wins the top award as the Best Alliance Lounge for the 7th year.

        Top 5 winners of Skytrax 2023 World Airline Awards include Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, ANA All Nippon Airways, Emirates, and Japan Airlines.

        AirAsia again won the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline award

        IndiGo was in the 43rd position.

        A new award was introduced in 2023, for the World’s Most Family Friendly Airline, this being won by Air Canada.

 

7.       CHAIRMAN OF GIFT CITY

        HasmukhAdhia, former union finance & revenue secretary, has been appointed Chairman of GIFT City Ltd (Gujarat International Finance Tec-city co. ltd.), in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

        GIFT City Ltd is an entity responsible for developing India’s first smart city Gujarat International Finance-Tec City in Gandhinagar.

 

8.       MNRE EXTENDS TIMELINE FOR SOLAR PARKS PROJECTS SCHEME BY TWO YEARS TILL 2026

         Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) extended the deadline for ‘Development of Solar Parks and Ultra-Mega Solar Power Projects’ by two years i.e. till 2026.

        The previous deadline for this project was scheduled to end in March 2024.

        This project was implemented with the aim to reduce project cost per MegaWatt (MW) and higher transmission losses.

 

9.       THE INTEGRATED SIMULATOR COMPLEX FOR INDIAN NAVY INAUGURATED IN KERALA

        Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Integrated Simulator Complex(ISC) “Dhruv“ at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi, Kerala.

        These simulators are designed to provide real-time experience on navigation, fleet operations, naval tactics and will also be utilised for training of personnel from friendly countries.

 

10.    INDIA TO LOSE 6,500 MILLIONAIRES IN 2023-HENLEY’S REPORT

        According to the Henley and partners’ annual report of Henley Private Wealth Migration Report 2023, published on June 13, 2023, India may lose at least 6,500 High-Networth Individuals (HNWIs) in 2023 making India the second-highest outflow of HNWIs globally, after China (which has a net loss of 13,500 HNWIs).

        India will be followed by the United Kingdom-UK (3,200) and Russia (3,000) in third and fourth places, respectively.

        Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Singapore remain preferred destinations for wealthy Indian families amid Golden Visa” program, favourable tax environment.

 

11.    HURUN INDIA 500 - INDIA’S MOST VALUABLE COMPANY

        According to the “2022 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500: a Six Month Update” released on 20th June 2023, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) topped as India’s most valuable company with a value of Rs 16.37 lakh crorefollowed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) with Rs 11.76 lakh crore and HDFC Bank with Rs 9.41 lakh crore.

        The report, featuring 500 most valuable non-state-owned companies in India, was released by Burgundy Private, Axis Bank’s Private Banking Business and Hurun India.

 

12.    INDIA’S MOST ATTRACTIVE EMPLOYER BRAND

        According to the annual report of Randstad India, a Human Resources (HR) service provider, titled “Randstad Employer Brand Research (REBR) 2023” Tata Power Company has been named ‘India’s most attractive employer brand’.

        Tata Power is followed by Amazon at the 2nd spot and Tata Steel Limited, at the 3rd place.

        Big Basket has emerged as the most attractive startup employer brand in India.

        The report highlighted that employees have rated automotive as the most attractive sector (77%) in India followed by Information Technology (IT) /Information Technology enabled Services(ITeS) and Telocom with 76% and Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), Retail and e-commerce with 75%.

 

13.    2023 IQBAL MASIH AWARD FOR THE ELIMINATION OF CHILD LABOUR

        LalithaNatarajan, Chennai (Tamil Nadu)-based Lawyer-Activist has been awarded the 2023 IqbalMasih Award for the Elimination of Child Labour for her extraordinary contributions to combat child labour.

        Judith Ravin, the United States of America (USA) Consul General presented the award to LalithaNatarajan at a ceremony at the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

 

14.    NEW PRIME MINISTER OF FINLAND

        Parliament of Finland elected PetteriOrpo, conservative National Coalition Party (NCP) leader as Prime Minister (PM) of Finland.

        PetteriOrpo succeeded Sanna Marin of Social Democrats party, who served as the PM of Finland from 2019-2023.

15.    ACC: ASIA CUP 2023 TO BE HELD IN HYBRID MODEL IN PAKISTAN & SRI LANKA

        The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced that the 16th edition of Asia Cup (Men’s Asia Cup 2023) will be held in hybrid mode in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from 31st August 2023 to 17th September 2023.

        For the first time since 2008, Pakistan will host a multi-nation cricket competition at home.

        Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup 2022 held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) by defeating Pakistan in the finals.

 

16.    QUALITY STANDARD IS18267: 2023 FOR AGRI BY-PRODUCT UTENSILS

        The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has published IS 18267: 2023 on ‘Food Serving Utensils Made from Agri By-Products – Specification’, aimed at reducing plastic pollution and promoting sustainability.

        The IS 18267: 2023 lays down the norms to make disposable utensils free from harmful additives and contributes towards environmental safety, conserve natural resources, promote a circular economy.

        The IS 18267: 2023 standard, emphasizes the use of agricultural by-products, such as leaves and sheaths, as preferred materials for making plates, cups, and bowls.

        It prohibits the use of chemicals, resins, and adhesives, and recommends appropriate parts of plants and trees for production.

 

17.    GOI AMENDED THE ELECTRICITY (RIGHTS OF CONSUMERS) RULES, 2020

        Government of India (GoI) has introduced two changes to the prevailing power tariff system, through an amendment to the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules, 2020.

        The changes are: introduction of Time of Day (ToD) Tariff, and rationalization of smart metering provisions.

        Under the ToD Tariff system, Tariff during solar hours (duration of eight hours in a day as specified by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission) of the day shall be 10%-20% less than the normal tariff, while the tariff during peak hours will be 10 to 20 percent higher.

        ToD tariff would be applicable for Commercial and Industrial consumers having Maximum demand of 10 KW and above, from 1st April, 2024 and for all other consumers except agricultural consumers, latest from 1st April, 2025.

 

18.    THE ASIA UNIVERSITY RANKINGS 2023

        According to Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2023, released on 22nd June 2023, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru (Karnataka) has emerged as the highest-ranked Indian Institute. IISc is ranked 48th on the overall list.

        The list is topped by China’s Tsinghua University, followed by the Peking University of China in the 2nd position and Singapore’s National University of Singapore(NUS) in the 3rd position

 

19.    ITU APPROVES BHARAT 6G VISION FRAMEWORK “IMT-2030”

        The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a United Nations (UN)’s agency for Telecom has approved the Bharat 6th Generation (6G) vision framework named “IMT-2030” at its 44th meeting of the ITU-R WP 5D (ITU- Radiocommunication sector Working Party 5D) held in Geneva, Switzerland

        The new 6G vision contained in the draft new recommendation ITU-R M.IMT.Framework for 2030 and beyond provides framework and overall objectives of the future development of IMT for 2030 and beyond.

        In March 2023, India released its ‘Bharat 6G’ vision document which recommended opening up more spectrum across low-, mid- and Millimetre wave (MM wave) bands.

 

20.    GLOBAL LIVEABILITY INDEX 2023

        According to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Global Liveability Index 2023 Vienna, the capital of Austria, has topped the index as the world’s most liveable city.

        Copenhagen (Denmark) ranked second while Melbourne and Sydney of Australia ranked 3rd and 4th in the index.

        EIU’s index ranks 173 cities across five categories: stability, healthcare, education, culture and the environment, and infrastructure.

        5 cities from India have been featured on the EIU’s Global Liveability index 2023.New Delhi (Delhi) 141st rank.

21.    TIME100: MOST INFLUENTIAL COMPANIES 2023

        Meesho and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), two Indian companies have been featured on the “TIME 100 Most Influential Companies of 2023“, the TIME Magazine’s annual list under the ‘pioneer’ category

        The TIME 100 Most Influential Companies List described Meesho as an “Innovative Retailer” and NPCI as “Connecting Commerce“.

        The 2023 list is divided into five categories titled: Leaders, Disruptors, Innovators, Titans, and Pioneers. Each category has listed under 20 companies.

        National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI):is an initiative of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) launched in 2008 to create more robust payment systems. It is an umbrella organisation for all retail payments and settlement systems in India.

 

22.    IOC HONOURED WHO DG TEDROS GHEBREYESUS WITH OLYMPIC ORDER & WHO WITH OLYMPIC CUP 2021

        The International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach presented the Olympic Order to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Director-General TedrosGhebreyesus in an award ceremony held at Olympic House in Lausanne, Switzerland.

        The Olympic Order is awarded to a person who has done outstanding services to the Olympic cause, either through his own personal achievement or his contribution to the development of sport.

 

23.    UNITED NATIONS PUBLIC SERVICE DAY -JUNE 23

·         United Nations Public Service Day is observed annually across the globe on 23rd June to highlight the contribution of public officials in development and progress.

        UN Public Service Day  theme of “Innovative Public Service Delivery: Ensuring No One Is Left Behind.”

 

24.    INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC DAY 2023 – JUNE 23

        International Olympic Day is annually celebrated across the world on 23rd June for the celebration of sport, health, and being together.

        This day marks the founding day of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the Sorbonne, Paris on June 23, 1894, when ancient Greek olympics were revived by the efforts of French historian Baron Pierre de Coubertin.

        The theme for International Olympic Day 2023 is ‘Let’s Move’ which emphasises daily physical activity to people around the world.  #Letsmove and #OlympicDay are the hashtags for this year’s celebration.
