UN WORLD SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT DAY – NOVEMBER

The first-ever United Nations (UN) World Sustainable Transport Day was observed on 26 November 2023 to
recognise the pivotal role of safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable
transport systems for all.
·
The observance is led by UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs
(UNDESA), in collaboration with the UN regional economic commissions.

INDIA’S 1ST TELECOM COE TO BE SET UP AT IIT
ROORKEE
·
India’s first Telecom Centre of Excellence (CoE)
will be established at the Indian
Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee campus in Saharanpur, in Uttar Pradesh (UP
·
The center will focus on connecting 5G technology and Artificial
Intelligence (AI) to develop innovative devices and technologies and will also
prepare a base for the launch of 6G technologies.
5.
IRDAI SETS UP 11-MEMBER TASK FORCE TO EXAMINE
THE IMPACT OF DPDP ACT, 2023
·
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI)
formed an 11-member task force to examine the impact of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act
of 2023 on the insurance sector.
·
The Chairperson of the task force
will be Randip Singh Jagpal, Executive Director (Non-Life) at IRDAI and
Member of Stakeholders’ Committee.
·
The Ministry of Law and Justice, Legislative Department notified the
Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023 which establishes a
comprehensive framework for processing digital personal data, balancing
individual rights to data protection with the lawful PROCESSINGneeds.
·
It includes a penalty clause for
non-compliance with the provisions by data fiduciaries under which penalties
can be up to Rs 250 crore.

UNHCR NANSEN REFUGEE AWARDS
·
Abdullahi Mire, a former refugee from Somalia has been named the 2023 United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Nansen Refugee Award’s Global Laureate for championing the right to
education while putting 100,000 books in the hands of displaced children and
youth in Kenya.

Established in 1954, the UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award celebrates the
legacy of Fridtjof Nansen, a Norwegian scientist, polar explorer, diplomat, and
first High Commissioner for Refugees (1920-1930) for the League of Nations.

UNAIDS’S WORLD AIDS DAY REPORT 2023
·
Ahead of World AIDS Day 2023 (1
December 2023), the Joint United Nations Programme on Human Immunodeficiency
Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) (UNAIDS) released the World AIDS Day Report 2023, titled “Let Communities Lead”.
·
The report states that AIDS can
be ended as a public health threat
by 2030, if only frontline communities get full support from governments
and donors.

The 2023 theme of World AIDS Day
is “Let Communities Lead”.

FRANCE’S CHEVALIER AWARD
·
Dr V R Lalithambika, a distinguished scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was
honoured with with “Chevalier de la
Légiond’Honneur”, the highest
civilian award of France, for her contributions in promoting space
cooperation between India and France.
·
She becomes the 2nd ISRO scientist to receive
the award.
Previously, A S Kiran Kumar, former chairman of ISRO received the award in
2019.
·
Eminent Indian author and translator, Dr Arshia Sattar, was honoured with “Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et
des Lettres” (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters), a prestigious honor
from French Government, for her commitment to cultural relationship and
cooperation between diverse literary worlds.

ISSF WORLD CUP FINAL 2023

Indian shooter Anish Bhanwala won the bronze
medal in the
Men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event at the International Shooting Sport
Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun 2023 held in Lusail
Shooting Range in Doha, Qatar
·
This was India’s 1st medal in the
men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event in the ISSF World Cup Final history.
·
India ranks 13th, along with Czechia; Great Britain; Latvia
& the United States of America(USA), in the medal tally with 1 bronze.
·
ISSF World Cup Final 2023 Medal tally is topped by China with 8(2 gold, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze) followed by
Germany (4 – 2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze) and Italy (6 – 1 gold, 3 silver, 2
bronze).

54TH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF INDIA

The 54th IFFI was jointly organised by the National Film Development
Corporation (NFDC) under the Ministry of Information &Broadcasting(MIB)
along with the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), Government of Goa.

Anurag Thakur, Union Minister, MIB inaugurated the 17th edition of the
Film Bazar and VFX and Tech Pavilion, and launched “75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow” challenge during 54th IFFI in Goa.
·
Renowned Indian actress, Padma Shri Awardee Madhuri Dixit was honoured with the Special Recognition to Bhartiya

PRESIDENT’S COLOUR TO ARMED FORCES MEDICAL
COLLEGE AT PUNE

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, conferred the President’s Colour (represented by a flag)
to the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) at Pune, Maharashtra.
·
President Droupadi Murmu also inaugurated the Armed Forces Centre for
Computational Medicine, ‘Prajna’.
·
The president’s colour, also known as “Rashtrapatika Nishaan,” is the highest honour bestowed upon a military unit for its exemplary service,
courage, and discipline.
·
The Indian Navy was the first Indian Armed
Force to be
awarded the President’s Colour by Dr. Rajendra Prasad on 1951.

Radhakishan Shivkishan Damani, the founder of Avenue Supermarts Limited
(DMart) topped the first edition of
‘India’s Top 200 Self-made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2023’ released by
First Private (Private Banking by IDFC First Bank Limited) and Hurun India,
with the value of Rs.2.38 lakh crore.

He is followed by Binny Bansal and Sachin Bansal (founders of Flipkart
India Private Limited) with an equity value of Rs. 1.19 lakh crore.
·
Deepinder Goyal, the founder of Zomato Media Private Limited, is ranked
third with a net worth of Rs 86,835 crore.

INDIA GDP GROWTH IN Q2FY24 ESTIMATES AT 7.6%:

National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation
(MoSPI) released the estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the
July-September Quarter (Q2) of 2023-24 (Q2FY24), both at Constant (2011-12) and
Current Prices.
·
India’s Real GDP or GDP at Constant (2011-12) Prices in Q2FY24 is projected to grow at 7.6% as compared
to 6.2% in Q2FY23.

WORLD AIDS DAY 2023- DECEMBER 1

The United Nations (UN)’s World Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome
(AIDS) Day is annually observed across the globe on 1 December to raise awareness about AIDS and to unite people across
the globe to show support for people living with AIDS and affected by Human
Immunodeficiency Viruses (HIV).
·
The theme of World AIDS Day
2023 is, “Let Communities Lead.”
·
The red ribbon has become an internationally
recognized symbol of solidarity and support for people living with HIV and for AIDS
