1.              SANGEET NATAK AKADEMI HONORS

·                The General Council of Sangeet Natak Akademi, the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, New Delhi, Delhi, unanimously elected 6 eminent personalities in the field of performing arts as of Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship (Akademi Ratna Sadasyata).

·                The General Council selected 92 artists from the field of Music, Dance, Theatre, Traditional/Folk/Tribal Music/Dance/ Theatre, Puppetry and Overall contribution/scholarship in the Performing Arts for the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards (Akademi Puraskar) for the years 2022 and 2023.

2.              LSAM 18 (YARD 128): INDIAN NAVY’S 4TH ACTCM BARGE

·                Indian Navy (IN) has launched an Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) Barge, LSAM 18 (YARD 128)’, 4th Barge of 11 x ACTCM Barge Project at M/s Suryadipta Projects Private Limited, Thane (Maharashtra).

·                In March 2021, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Suryadipta Projects signed the contract for building the 11 X ACTCM Barges.

 

3.              INDIA’S OLDEST LOKSABHA MP PASSED AWAY

·                India’s oldest parliamentarian and a founding member of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Shafiqur Rahman Barq passed away at the age of 93 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh (UP).

·                He was serving as Member of Parliament (MP) of the 17th Lok Sabha (2019-24) representing the Sambhal constituency of UP.

 

4.              12 INDIGENOUS PRODUCTS FROM ARUNACHAL PRADESH GET GI TAG

·                Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN)- based Geographical Indication(GI) Registry has awarded the GI tag to 12 distinctive products from Arunachal Pradesh including Apatani Textile Product, Dao (broadsword), Adlay Millet, among others.

·                Now the total number of GI products from Arunachal Pradesh has become 20.

5.              MOE & MIB CAMPAIGN “MERA PEHLA VOTE DESH KE LIYE”

·                The Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) have jointly launched a nationwide awareness campaign “Mera pehla vote desh ke liye (my first vote for the country)” to encourage the first-time voters to participate in the 2024 LokSabha election.

 

6.              US CHAMBER’S INTERNATIONAL IP INDEX 2024:

·                According to the 12th edition of the International Intellectual Property (IP) Index (2024) by the United States (US) Chamber of Commerce, India has retained the 42nd rank with an overall score of 38.64%.

·                The United States of America (USA) has topped the list with an overall score of 95.48% followed by the United Kingdom (UK) in the 2nd place with 94.12% and France in the 3rd with 93.12%.

·                The Index assesses IP frameworks of 55 economies using 50 unique criteria related to patents, copyrights, enforcement, and more.

 

7.              SUNIL BHARTI MITTAL TO BE CONFERRED WITH UK HONORARY KNIGHTHOOD

·                Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises became the 1st Indian citizen to be conferred the title of Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) under King Charles III reign, recognising his contributions “for services to United Kingdom (UK) and India business relations”.

·                The KBE is one of the highest honours conferred by the British Sovereign to civilians, granted to foreign nationals in recognition of their outstanding contributions.

·                Sunil Bharti Mittal in 1976, he founded Bharti Enterprises, which started its telecom services business by launching mobile services in Delhi in 1995.

 

8.              NEW CHAIRMAN & MEMBERS OF LOKPAL

·                DroupadiMurmu, President of India, has appointed the new Chairman and Members of Lokpal, the anti-corruption authority in India.

·                Former Supreme Court judge Ajay ManikraoKhanwilkar was appointed as the chairperson of Lokpal.

·                The Lokpal has been working without its regular chairperson since the retirement of Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose,1st Chairperson of Lokpal,  on 27th May 2022.

·                Lokpal: inquires and investigates the allegations of corruption against public functionaries.
It is the first institution of its kind in independent India, established under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act 2013.

·                It consists of a chairperson and 8 members, of whom 50% are judicial members.

·                Term of office:Thechairperson and other members hold office for a term of 5 years from the date on which they enter upon the office or until they attain the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.

·                Jurisdiction: It can inquire into allegations of corruption against anyone who is or has been Prime Minister, or a Minister in the Union government, or a Member of Parliament, as well as officials of the Union Government under Groups A, B, C and D.

 

9.              TURKISH WOMEN’S FOOTBALL CUP 2024

·                The Indian women’s football team (Nicknamed:Blue Tigresses) finished runners-up after they lost to Kosovo in the finals of the Turkish Women’s Cup 2024(Also known as Alanya Gold City Cup) football tournament at the Gold City Sports Complex in Alanya, Turkey.

·                India’s Manisha Kalyan was awarded “Best Midfielder of the Tournament” for her exemplary display throughout the competition.

·                The 2024 Turkish Women’s Cup, eighth edition of the annual event was held in February 2024, included four teams: India, Hong Kong, Estonia, and Kosovo.

 

10.           WORLD CIVIL DEFENCE DAY 2024 – MARCH 1

·                World Civil Defence Day (WCDD), also known as World Civil Protection Day, is annually observed across the globe on 1st March to honour the significance of Civil Defence and the personnel who have sacrificed their lives for it.

·                1st March 2024 marks the observance of 35th WCDD.

·                The Theme of WCDD 2024 is “Honour Heroes and Promote Safety Skills”.

·                The slogan for the day is “Innovative Technologies in the Civil Protection Service”.

12.           JACINTHA KALYAN – INDIA’S FIRST FEMALE PITCH CURATOR

·                The upcoming 2nd edition of the Women’s Premier League tournament is all set to create some history as Jacintha Kalyan is all set to become the first female curator to prepare the pitches during the upcoming edition of the WPL

·                Jacintha Kalyan, the first female curator from India, has been serving at Chinnaswamy Stadium.

 

13.           ASIAN TRACK CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIP

·                In the Asian Track Cycling Championship, India created history by clinching Gold in the Junior Women's Team Sprint Event at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Delhi.

·                The women's junior team, comprising SaritaKumari, Niya Sebastian, Zaina Mohammed Ali Pirkhan, and Sabina Kumari outpaced South Korea with an impressive timing of 53.383 seconds to win the gold

 

14.           RBI LEVIES MONETARY PENALTY ON HANAMASAGAR URBAN CO-OPERATIVE BANK LTD

·                The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 50,000 on Hanamasagar Urban Co-operative Bank Limited., Karnataka.

·                Reason : Penalty imposed for non-compliance with RBI directions regarding monitoring and reporting mechanisms for frauds, as well as reporting of frauds on XBRL-FMR submission.

 

15.           MADHYA PRADESH LAUNCHES 'BAGLESS SCHOOL' INITIATIVE

·                The Madhya Pradesh (MP) government has announced'bag less school' day once a week for students in classes 1to 12, starting from the upcoming academic session in 2024-25.

·                According to the notice, students in classes 1 and 2 should carry bags weighing between 1.6-2.2 kg, while those in classes 3 to 5 should limit their bags to 1.7-2.5 kg.

·                For classes 6 and 7, the recommended weight is 2-3 kg, and for classes 8, 2.5-4 kg.

·                Students in classes 9 and 10 are advised to carry bags weighing between 2.5-4.5 kg.

 

16.           OMAN AND INDIA COLLABORATION IN THE FIELD OF ARCHIVES

·                India and Oman have mutually agreed to cooperate in the field of Archives.

·                A delegation of the National Archives of India (NAI), visited the National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) of Oman

 

17.           "SUDARSHAN SETU," THE NATION'S LONGEST CABLE-STAYED BRIDGE

·                Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s longest cable- stayed bridge,SudarshanSetu, in Gujarat’s DevbhumiDwarka district.

·                It is a  4.77-km-long SudarshanSetu, also known as Signature Bridge, to the nation.

·                Constructed at Rs 978 crore, it connects Okha town in the DevbhumiDwarka district with Bet Dwarkaisland in the Gulf of Kutch.

 

18.           RIO DE JANEIRO G20 FOREIGN MINISTERS' MEETING.

·                Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharanparticipated in the G20 Foreign Ministers’Meeting (FMM)

·                held under the Brazilian G20Presidencyin Rio de Janeiro.

·                At Session I, the Minister of State expressed India’s steadfast support to Brazil’s G20 Presidency and noted that four developing countries - Indonesia, India, Brazil and South Africa - are holding the G20 Presidency in a row.

 

19.           PHILIPPINES RATIFY ILO CONVENTION ADDRESSING WORKPLACE VIOLENCE AND HARASSMENT

·                The Philippines has made history by becoming the first Asian country to ratify the Violence and Harassment Convention 2019 (No. 190) announced by the International LabourOrganisation (ILO).

·                The ILO is a United Nations agency whose mandate is to advance social and economic justice by setting international labour standards.

·                It became the first specialised agency of the United Nations (UN) in the year 1946.

·                The ILO is the only tripartite U.N. agency.

 

20.           VICE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF,

·                Lieutenant General UpendraDwivedi has assumed the appointment of the Vice Chief of the Army Staff.

·                On assumption of appointment, Lieutenant General UpendraDwivedi laid wreath at the National War Memorial and was accorded Guard of Honour at the South Block Lawns.

 

21.           1ST UNITED STATES SPACECRAFT TO LAND ON THE MOON SINCE 1972

·                After a gap of 52 years since the last successful Apollo mission, a U.S.-made spacecraft named Odysseus has successfully landed on the Moon

·                This event also signifies the arrival of private space companies on the lunar surface.

·                Odysseus, a spacecraft built by Intuitive Machines, a 10-year-old company based in Houston, used a Falcon 9 rocket by SpaceX to take off from Earth on February 15.

·                The spacecraft carried 6 NASA payloads to the Moon.

·                Location of Moon Landing: The lander module of Odysseus, known as Nova-C, became the second spacecraft to land in the Moon's south pole region, following Chandrayaan-3's landing last year.

 

22.           DUBAI LAUNCHES 5-YEAR MULTIPLE ENTRY VISA FOR INDIAN TOURISTS

·                According to the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), the visa issued within 2 to 5 working days, allows a 90-day stay, extendable once for a similar period, with a total stay not exceeding 180 days in a year.

·                According to DET, Dubai experienced a surge in tourism from India, welcoming 2.46 million overnight visitors in 2023.

 

23.           BANK'S GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT FACILITY’S FIRST FEMALE DIRECTOR

·                GeetaBatra, a distinguished economist born in India (New Delhi), has been appointed as the Director of the Independent Evaluation Office of the World Bank's Global Environment Facility (GEF).

·                She is the first woman from a developing country to hold this position

·                66th GEF Council Meeting was in Washington

·                The GEF has been a significant player in the environmental sector since the Rio Earth Summit in 1992

 

24.           INDIA'S LARGEST DRONE PILOT TRAINING ORGANIZATION

·                Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has launched the largest Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO) in India in collaboration with EduRade, with the aim of promoting the advancement of drone technology.

·                The Pilot Training Organisation spans across 18 acres and has the capability to fly 9 medium-class drones simultaneously.

 

25.           INDIA'S FIRST SPACE TECH ACCELERATOR PROGRAM

·                Amazon Web Services (AWS) India announced its launch of an accelerator programme for space startups called

·                AWS Space Accelerator: India.

·                It is a technical, business, and mentorship opportunity designed to foster startups focused on spacetechnology, and accelerate their development, with support from T-Hub, and Minfy.

 

26.           INDIA'S WEIGHTAGE CLIMBS TO RECORD HIGH ON MSCI GLOBAL STANDARD INDEX

·                Index provider MSCI raised India's weightage in its Global Standard (Emerging Markets) index to a historic

·                high of 18.2%

·                India has the second-highest weightage in the MSCI Global Standard index, after China.

 

27.           WHO UNVEILS GLOBAL INITIATIVE ON DIGITAL HEALTH (GIDH)

·                The World Health Organization (WHO) introduced the Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH), aimed at fostering collaboration and sharing digital health knowledge and products among countries.

·                The GIDH comprises four main components: country needs tracker, country resource portal,transformation toolbox, and knowledge exchange.

·                The Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH) was launched jointly by the WHO and the Government of India during the G20 Health Ministerial Meeting held in Gandhinagar, India, on August 19, 2023.

28.           FIRST FEMALE CHIEF MINISTER OF A PAKISTANI PROVINCE

·                Maryam Nawaz, a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) party and daughter of three-time former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, became the first woman Chief Minister of Punjab province.

·                She won the chief ministerial elections amidst a walkout by lawmakers of former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

·                She won after receiving 220 votes in the 371-member Punjab Assembly.

 

29.           PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE

·                Judge Nawaf Salam (Lebanon) was elected President of the International Court of Justice by his peers, for aterm of 3 years.

·                The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations.

·                It was established by the United Nations Charter in June 1945 and began its activities in April 1946.

·                The Court is composed of 15 judges elected for a nine-year term by the General Assembly and the Security Council of the United Nation.

·                The seat of the Court is at the Peace Palace in The Hague (Netherlands).

 

30.           ISRO RETIRES CARTOSAT-2, HIGH-RESOLUTION IMAGING SATELLITE

·                Cartosat-2, the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) second-generation high-resolution imaging satellite, has been deorbited after serving for 17 years.

·                Launched on January 10, 2007, the satellite weighed 680 kg and operated in a sun-synchronous polar orbit at an altitude of 635 km.

31.           RBI EXTENDS EXPORT CREDIT INTEREST EQUALISATION SCHEME UNTIL JUNE 30, 2024

·                Government of India (GoI) has allowed for the extension of the Interest Equalization Scheme for Pre and Post-Shipment Rupee Export Credit ('Scheme') up to June 30, 2024.

·                Under this extension, Manufacturers and Merchant Exporters dealing with specified 410 HS lines will benefit from a 2 percent interest equalization rate, while MSME manufacturers exporting under any HS line will receive a higher rate of 3 per cent.

·                The scheme, inaugurated on April 1, 2015, was originally slated for a five-year duration until March 31, 2020.

·                The annual net subvention amount has been already capped at Rs 10 Cr per Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) in a given financial year and the same has been communicated to the trade & industry and banks.

 

32.           FATF NEW WATCHLIST GREY LIST

·                Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) in its plenary meeting in February, 2024 removed the United ArabEmirates (UAE) successfully from the watchdog’s grey list.

·                Barbados, Gibraltar and Uganda will also be removed from the FATF's grey list.

·                Kenya and Namibia have been added to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) greylist.

·                FATF Black List: Also known as Non-Cooperative Countries or Territories (NCCTs),countries on this list support terror funding and money laundering activities.

·                FATF Grey List: Countries considered as safe havens for supporting terror funding and money laundering are placed on the grey list, serving as a warning to take corrective actions to avoid being blacklisted.

·                FATF serves as the global watchdog for money laundering and terrorist financing.

·                FATF has 39 member countries, and India became a member in 2010.

·                The World Gold Council has appointed Sachin Jain as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), India, who willtake up the role in March 2024.

34.           INDIA INTRODUCES 1ST SEPTIC TANK CLEANING ROBOT

·                India's first septic tank/manhole cleaning robot, offering an end-to-end solution to eliminate manual scavenging, is strengthening the swachhataabhiyan in different corners of the country.

·                The technology called Homosep Atom developed by the startup incubated in the  Department of Science and Technology (DST)-Technology Business Incubator (TBI) of IIT Madras

·                The startup called Solinas, which developed this affordable robotic solution integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) to inspect, clean, and manage confinedspace for sanitation purposes.

 

35.           RBI ISSUES MASTER DIRECTION FOR BHARAT BILL PAYMENT SYSTEM, 2024

·                In exercise of the powers conferredunder Section 18read with Section 10(2) of thePayment and SettlementSystems Act, 2007 (PSS Act),the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has introduced a revised regulatory framework forthe Bharat Bill Payment Systems (BBPS), effective April 1, 2024.

·                BBPS is an integrated bill payment platform which enables payment / collection of bills through multiple channels (Mobile Apps, Mobile Banking, Physical Agents, Bank branches, etc.) using various payment modes (UPI, Internet Banking, Cards, Cash, Prepaid Payment Instruments, etc.).

·                NBBL is a wholly owned subsidiary of National Payments Corporation of India.

·                NBBL is designated as the Payment System Provider for the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS)

·                Bharat Bill Pay Central Unit (BBPCU): BBPCU is the entity which operates BBPS;sets operational, technical and business standards, and also undertakes clearing and settlement functions.

 

36.           NSG’S NEW DIRECTOR GENERAL

·                Daljit Singh Chaudhary, a 1990 batch IPS officer, is appointed as the new Director General of National Security Guard (NSG) by the Centre.

·                The NSG operates under federal jurisdiction, specializing in counter-terrorism and anti-hijacking operations.

 

37.           GAGANYAAN MISSION: PM NAMES 4 ASTRONAUTS

·                The first unmanned Gaganyaan-1 mission, a test flight to check the technology readiness for the final mission, is scheduled to take off by the end of 2024

·                Group Captain PrasanthBalakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain AngadPratap, and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla are India’s astronauts-designate for Gaganyaan, India’s first crewed space mission.

·                In 1984, Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma became the first Indian in space when he flew to the Salyut 7 space station on a Soviet spacecraft.
