The Water
Heritage Museum in Kozhikode, Kerala has been included in the
list of Global Network of Water Museums (WAMU-NET),
a flagship initiative under UNESCO’s Intergovernmental
Hydrological Programme (IHP).

The Water Heritage Museum is the third in India
to be added to the list, after JAL Water Museum in
Udaipur (Rajasthan) and Living Water Museum in Pune (Maharashtra),
marking a significant milestone in highlighting Kerala’s rich water heritage on
a global platform.

2. UNESCO/GUILLERMO
CANO WORLD PRESS FREEDOM PRIZE
·
La Prensa, a Nicaraguan
newspaper, has been honored with the 2025 UNESCO/Guillermo
Cano World Press Freedom Prize for its outstanding commitment to
press freedom and journalistic integrity.
·
UNESCO
member states created the World Press Freedom Prize in 1997.
·
The only
UN prize awarded to journalists, it is named after Colombian newspaper
journalist Guillermo Cano Isaza, who was assassinated in Colombia’s capital,
Bogota, in 1986.

WJA ‘MEDAL
OF HONOUR’
·
Bhuwan Ribhu, a renowned Indian child rights lawyer and activist,
was conferred the ‘Medal of Honour’ by the World Jurist Association (WJA),
becoming the first Indian lawyer to receive
this recognition.
·
He was
awarded this honor during the World Law Congress(WLC) 2025 held in the
Dominican Republic, a country in North America (NA).
·
He
received the award jointly from Eddy Olivares Ortega,
Minister of Labour, Dominican Republic, and Javier Cremades,
President of WJA.

WORLD FOOD PRIZE
·
The World
Food Prize Foundation, based in Des Moines, Iowa (United States of America,
USA), named Brazilian Microbiologist Dr. Mariangela Hungria as
the winner of the 2025 World Food Prize.
·
The award
honors Dr.Hungria’s ground breaking work in developing biological
alternatives to chemical fertilizers, significantly enhancing sustainable
agriculture practices in Brazil and beyond.
·
She will officially receive the award and a
monetary prize of USD 500,000.

INDIA TOPPED GLOBAL PMI
RANKINGS
·
USA
based JP Morgan released its latest Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) report
for April 2025.
·
As per
the report’s data, India has topped
among the developed and emerging economies in terms of both manufacturing and services activity.
·
The
report revealed India’s manufacturing PMI stood at 58.2 while
its services PMI stood at 58.7.
·
These
figures are highest compared to both developed and emerging markets.
·
TheJ.P.Morgan
Global Manufacturing PMI is a composite
index produced by J.P.Morgan in collaboration with S&P Global Market Intelligence, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), and the International
Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management
(IFPSM).
·
This
index is derived from monthly surveys of purchasing executives across over 30
countries, collectively representing a significant portion of global
manufacturing output.

20 MOST SPOKEN LANGUAGES WORLDWIDE IN 2025

As per
the recent research from Ethnologue, the most
authoritative source on the languages of the world, 5 Indian languages
namely, Hindi(3rd), Bengali (7th), Urdu (11th),
Marathi (16th), and Telugu (18th), are among the top
20 most spoken languages worldwide in 2025.
·
Hindi with 609.1 million speakers, emerged as the 3rd most widely spoken language
globally and the most spoken language in India, in 2025.
·
English is
the most widely spoken language globally in 2025 as it is the local and second
language of 1.53 billion individuals across 188
countries.
·
It is followed
by Chinese Mandarin (the official language of China), which is considered
the world’s largest language when
counting only native speakers, is the 2nd most widely spoken language in
the world in 2025, with total 1.18 billion speakers.
·
The official language of Spain and 20 other
countries i.e. Spanish, emerged as the 4th most
spoken language globally in 2025, with 558.5 million speakers.
7. QUAD
PARTNERS TABLETOP EXERCISE
·
The
Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) partners :India,
Australia, Japan, and USA, conducted a Tabletop Exercise (TTX)
at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) in
Honolulu, Hawaii (USA) to simulate the launch of the Quad Indo-Pacific Logistics Network (IPLN).
·
TTX was
aimed at simulating real-world maritime scenarios to enhance coordination,
interoperability, and information-sharing among the Quad nations and maritime
agencies.
·
The IPLN is a
strategic initiative aimed at enhancing shared logistics capabilities among
Quad nations to support civilian disaster response in the Indo-Pacific region.
·
Quad
is an informal strategic group to strengthen cooperation,
ensure maritime security, economic growth, and regional stability in the
Indo-Pacific, especially in response to China’s growing influence.
·
The Quad was initially launched in 2007 by
Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, with support from Australian PM John Howard, Indian PM
Manmohan Singh, and USA Vice President (VP) Dick Cheney, and was later revived
in 2017.

BRAHMOS AEROSPACE TESTING
FACILITY IN LUCKNOW, UP

Union
Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence (MoD)
virtually inaugurated the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and
Testing Facility in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (UP), to strengthen
India’s efforts to become a self-reliant in defence production.

The BrahMos
Production Unit, established by the Defence Research and
Development Organisation (DRDO), MoD was also
inaugurated.

KOHLI RETIRES FROM TEST CRICKET

He will
continue representing India in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and play for the
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Indian Premier League (IPL).
·
He
played 123 tests, scoring 9230 runs including 30
centuries and 31 fifties.
·
He made his test debut in Jamaica in 2011 against
the West Indies.
·
In 2018, he was honoured with the ICC Test
Player of the Year, for his overwhelming performance in the format.

WOMEN’S WORLD CUP 2027
·
FIFA has announced Brazil as
the host country of the Women’s football world cup in 2027.
·
The decision was made at the 74th FIFA
congress, held in Bangkok, Thailand.
·
Brazil is
the first country to host FIFA Women’s World Cup (WCC) in South America.
·
The 2027 edition of the FIFA WCC will expand
to feature 32 national teams.

The Archery
World Cup 2025 Stage 2 was held in Shanghai, China
·
India clinched a total of 7 medals and secured the 2nd position in
the overall medal tally.

South Korea topped the
overall medal tally with a total of 7 medals (5 gold and 2 silver) while India
secured the 2nd position with 7 medals (2 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze).
·
Madhura Dhamangaonkar: Clinched gold in
the Women’s Individual Compound event, marking her first individual World Cup
gold.
·
The
Indian team comprising Ojas Deotale, Abhishek Verma, and Rishabh Yadav won
the gold medal in the Men’s Compound
Team event after defeating Mexico in the final.
