1.       ISSF SHOTGUN WORLD CUP 2025

·         Indian shooters Kynan Chenai and Sabeera Haris secured a bronze medal in the Trap Mixed Team event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Shotgun World Cup 2025, held in Nicosia, Cyprus.

·         They defeated Turkey’s TolgaTuncer and Pelin Kaya with a narrow score of 34-33 in the final match.

·         The Indian pair finished 4th among 34 teams in the qualification round China secured the gold medal in the trap mixed team event by defeating Poland 42–39 in the final.

·         Neutral Athletes topped the medal standings by winning 2 gold medals out of the 5 events conducted.

·         China secured 2 medals – 1 gold and 1 silver.

·         Spain and Italy were joint third with 1 gold medal each.

·         The next ISSF World Cup for shotgun shooters is scheduled to take place in July 2025, in Lonato del Garda, Italy.

 

2.       RBI RELAXED FPI NORMS ON CORPORATE BONDS

·         Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has relaxed norms for Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) to buy local corporate bonds by removing “short-term debt investment limits” and  the ‘concentration limits’, aimed at providing greater ease of investment to FPIs.

·         Under the previous framework, investments by FPIs in corporate bonds with maximum residual maturity period of 1 year was capped at 30% of the total investment of FPIs in corporate bonds. These limits were applicable on the end-of-day basis.

·         Investment in corporate debt securities by an FPI (including its related FPIs) was limited at 15% of prevailing investment limit for long-term FPIs and 10% for others.

·         According to RBI’s Digital Lending Directions 2025, all Banks and other Regulated Entities (REs) are now required to report details of their Digital Lending Applications (DLAs) through the Centralised Information Management System (CIMS) portal of RBI.

 


3.       PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS POST RECORD RS.1.78 TRILLION PROFIT IN FY25

·         Public sector banks'(PSBs) cumulative profit rose to a record level of Rs. 1.78 lakh crore in the Financial Year 2024-25(FY25), registering a growth of 26% over the previous year.

·         All 12 PSBs had earned a total profit of Rs 1.41 lakh crore in FY24.

·         The year-on-year(YoY) increase in profit in absolute terms rose by about Rs. 37,100 crore in FY25.

·         State Bank of India (SBI) alone accounted for over 40% with a net profit of Rs 70,901 crore, marking a 16% increase from Rs 61,077 crore recorded in FY24.

·         Punjab National Bank (PNB) registered the highest percentage growth among all PSBs, with a 102% rise in net profit to Rs 16,630 crore.

·         It was followed by New Delhi based Punjab & Sind Bank (P&SB), which recorded a 71% increase to Rs. 1,016 crore.

 

4.       INDIAN STATES WITH HIGHEST GST REVENUE

·         Maharashtra with Rs 3,18, 497 crore, has topped among the top 10 Indian states with highest Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection for Financial Year 2024-25 (FY25) and even in April 2025 with total GST collection of Rs 41,645 crore. 

·         Gujarat secured the second position with Rs.1, 74, 938 crore and Karnataka at the third place with Rs.1, 43, 023 crore.

·         Total GST revenue collection reached at Rs 21.36 lakh crore in 2024, the highest since the introduction of GST in 2017.

·         This marks an increase of 8.86% compared to the last year’s collection.

·         GST Council is a constitutional body introduced through 101st Amendment Act, 2016 in the constitution.

·         It was constituted under Article 279-A of the constitution.

5.       RBI IMPOSES PENALTY ON SBI AND JANA SMALL FINANCE BANK

·         RBI imposed a total monetary penalty of Rs.2.72 crore on State Bank of India (SBI) and Bengaluru based Jana Small Finance Bank (SFB) Limited for non-compliance with regulatory guidelines.

·         SBI, India’s largest Public Sector Bank (PSB) was fined Rs.1.728 Crore for non-compliance with directions issued by the RBI related to: Loans and Advances  Statutory and Other Restrictions, Customer Protection  Limiting Liability of Customers in Unauthorised Electronic Banking Transactions, Opening of Current Accounts by Banks – Need for Discipline

·         Jana SFB, was imposed a penalty of Rs.1 crore for contravention of certain provisions of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

 

6.       WORLD MIGRATORY BIRD DAY 2025 – MAY 10

·         World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) 2025 is a global campaign supported by the United Nations (UN), observed biannually on the second Saturday of May and October, to raise awareness about challenges faced by migratory birds and encourage action to conserve their habitats.

·         The theme of WMBD 2025 is “Creating Bird-Friendly Cities and Communities”, focusing on the need for healthy coexistence between humans and migratory birds.

 

7.       NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DAY 2025 – MAY 11

·         11 May 2025 marks the 27th edition of National Technology Day, commemorating 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests.

·         Theme -YANTRA – Yugantar for Advancing New Technology, Research & Acceleration”.

·         On May 11, 1998, when India conducted the Operation Shakti (Pokhran-II) nuclear tests and the maiden flight of the indigenous Hansa-3 aircraft.

·         In recognition of these milestones, former Prime Minister(PM) of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared May 11 as National Technology Day in 1999.

 

8.       INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY 2025 – MAY 12

·         This date commemorates the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), renowned as the founder of modern nursing.

·         The theme for International Nurses Day 2025 is “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies.”

 

9.       8TH UN GLOBAL ROAD SAFETY WEEK 2025 – (12–18) MAY

·         The United Nations(UN) Global Road Safety Week (UNGRSW) is a biennial campaign organized by Geneva (Switzerland) based World Health Organization (WHO) 

·         The theme of UNGRSW 2025 is #MakeWalkingSafe and #MakeCyclingSafe, which highlights the need for safer infrastructure and policies that protect pedestrians and cyclists.

 

10.    INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FAMILIES 2025 – MAY 15

·         The theme for IDF 2025 is “Family-Oriented Policies for Sustainable Development: Towards the Second World Summit for Social Development.”

 

11.    BOOK “JANTA KI KAHANI-IN MERI AATAMKATHA”

·         The Vice President (VP) of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar released the book, “Janta Ki Kahani-in Meri Aatamkatha”, an autobiography written by Haryana GovernorBandaru Dattatraya 

 

12.    BOOK “INDIA@2047: LEADING THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC ORDER”

·         The Chief Economist at New Economic Order Economists and Chief Economist of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Shyam Prakash Sharma released his book, “India@2047: Leading the Global Economic Order” 

·         The book was launched with an aim to envision India’s growth to become Global Economic Leadership by its 100th year of independence.

·         The book identifies key enablers of the global economic leadership transformation, including government initiatives such as Make in India, Pradhan Mantri (PM) Gati Shakti, and record- breaking Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), which has crossed USD 1 trillion.
