1.       NEW PM OF SERBIA

·         Serbia’s parliament appointed Duro Macut, as the new Prime Minister (PM).

·         He received 153 votes in the 250-seat Parliament

·         Capital – Belgrade

 

2.       WEF CHAIRMAN RESIGNED

·         Klaus Schwab, founder of the Geneva (Switzerland) based World Economic Forum (WEF), announced his resignation as Chairman and member of the Board of Trustees with immediate effect.

·         Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, appointed as interim Chairman.

·         Brabeck-Letmathe, an Austrian businessman  is Vice Chairman of the Foundation Board.

 


3.       T RABI SANKAR RE-APPOINTED AS RBI DEPUTY GOVERNOR

·         The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the reappointment of T. Rabi Sankar as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a one-year extension,

·         This marks his second consecutive one-year extension since his initial appointment in May 2021, succeeding B.P. Kanungo.

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has four Deputy Governors: T. Rabi Sankar, M. Rajeshwar Rao, Swaminathan Janakiraman and Poonam Gupta

 

4.       MISSION AMRIT SAROVAR: REVIVING INDIA’S WATER HERITAGE

·         The Mission Amrit Sarovar, a flagship initiative under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, was announced on 24th April 2022 by the Prime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi

·         The objective of this mission is to construct/rejuvenate at least 75 Amrit Sarovar (ponds) in every district of the country. 

·         Each Amrit Sarovar is designed to have a pondage area of minimum of 1 acre (0.4 hectare) with water holding capacity of about 10,000 cubic meter (m3).

·         As of March 2025, over 68,000 Sarovars have been completed, out of which 46,000 sarovars were constructed/rejuvenated under MGNREGS.

 

5.       INDIA SIGNS HEADQUARTERS AGREEMENT WITH IBCA

·         The Government of India (GoI) signed a Headquarters Agreement with the New Delhi based International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), officially designating India as the host country for IBCA’s headquarters and secretariat.

·         The IBCA was launched by PM Narendra Modi in April 2023, during the ‘Commemorating 50 Years of Project Tiger’ event in Mysuru, Karnataka.

·         The IBCA, headquartered in New Delhi became a treaty-based intergovernmental organisation in 2025, and is supported by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).

·         The initiative was launched to facilitate global conservation of the seven big cat species – Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Cheetah, Jaguar, and Puma.

·         The IBCA currently includes 27 countries and several organisations, as per the NTCA.

 

6.       UP IS NO.1 IN GI TAGGING IN INDIA

·         GI certificates is given to 21 traditional products from Uttar Pradesh including Banarasi Shehnai, Banarasi Tabla and Banarasi Bharwan Mirch.

·         UP surpassed Tamil Nadu  to become the Indian state with the highest number of GI tags, holding 77 GI-certified products.

·         TN holds 69 GI-tagged products.

 

7.       AMRAVATI AIRPORT INAUGURATED 

·         Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, inaugurated Amravati Airport in Belora, Vidarbha, Maharashtra.

·         The airport is being operated by Alliance Air.

·         He also flagged off 1st flight from Amravati to Mumbai under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)- Ude Desh ka Aaam Nagrik (UDAN).

·         CM Fadnavis also announced that Southeast Asia’s Largest Pilot Training Institute i.e. Flying Training Organisation (FTO) will be established in Amravati and is expected to open within the next 6 months.

 

8.       INDIA GRANTS TO SIERRA LEONE

·         The Government of India announced a financial assistance of USD 990,000 (Rs. 8.26 crore) to the Republic of Sierra Leone for implementing a development project titled Enabling Economic Independence for Specially Abled Persons in Sierra Leone (Persons with Disabilities)” under the India-United Nations (UN) Development Partnership Fund.

·         The India-UN Development Partnership Fund, established in June 2017, has a total commitment of USD 150 million, supporting 86 projects across 65 countries.

 

9.       SVAMITVA SCHEME COMPLETED 5 YEARS 

·         The SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas), a transformative rural governance scheme which was launched on April 24, 2020 on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, has completed 5 years of successful implementation.

·         The scheme is being implemented by Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) with the support of Dehradun (Uttarakhand)-based Survey of India (SoI) and New Delhi (Delhi)-based National Informatics Centre Services Inc. (NICSI) as the technology partner.

·         The scheme is a Central Sector Scheme (CSS) which aims to provide the ‘record of rights’ in the form of property cards to village household owners possessing houses in inhabited rural areas of the country.

 

10.    5-POINT ACTION AGAINST PAKISTAN AFTER PAHALGAM TERROR ATTACK

·         GoI has decided to suspend the Indus Water Treaty (IWT), a key water-sharing agreement between Indian and Pakistan, with immediate effect.

·         The government has also decided to close the integrated Attari-Wagah Border with immediate effect.

·         It has clarified that individuals who have already crossed over with valid documents will be allowed to return that route before May 01, 2025.

·         All Pakistani military, Naval and Air advisors stationed at Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi (Delhi) have been expelled.

·         GoI has declared these personnel ‘Persona Non Grata’ and they have been asked to leave India within one week.
