1.       WORLD’S 1ST GLOBAL CARBON TAX IN SHIPPING INDUSTRY

·         India and 62 other countries have agreed to the world’s 1st ever global carbon tax by bringing commercial shipping under this ambit to combat the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in the sector.

·         This landmark decision was taken after voting at the United Nations (UN)-backed International Maritime Organisation (IMO)’s headquarters in London, the United Kingdom (UK).

·         Since Shipping sector is not covered under the 2015 Paris Agreement, this new legally binding framework on imposing global carbon tax on shipping to tackle carbon emissions will help in realizing the overall ‘net-zero’ target.

 

2.       UNESCO’S MEMORY OF THE WORLD REGISTER

·         The manuscripts of Shrimad Bhagvad Gita and Bharat Muni’s Natyashastra have been included to Paris based United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)’s Memory of the World (MoW) Register, a global initiative that preserves documentary heritage of outstanding value.

·         With this, the total number of inscriptions from India now stands at 14.

·         Both these newly inducted manuscripts are preserved by Pune (Maharashtra)-based Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (BORI).

·         This year UNESCO has included 74 new documentary heritage collections from 72 countries and 4 international organisations to its MoW register.

·         The total number of inscribed collections now stands 570.

·         Shrimad Bhagvad Gita, a sacred Sanskrit text, traditionally attributed to sage Vyasa. 

·         It comprises 700 versus in 18 chapters, embedded in the 6th book (Bhishma Parva) of longest epic poem ‘Mahabharata’.The Natyashastra, attributed to sage Bharata Muni.

·         It is an ancient Sanskrit text comprising 36,000 versus.

 


3.       15TH BRICS AGRICULTURE MINISTERS MEETING 

·         The 15th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Agriculture Minister Meeting (AMM) held in Brasilia, Brazil.

·         Theme: “Promoting Inclusive and Sustainable Agriculture through Cooperation, Innovation, and Equitable Trade Among BRICS Countries’’

·         BRICS countries have launched a new initiative named ‘BRICS Land Restoration Partnership’ to address key issues related to agriculture like: land degradation, desertification, and soil fertility loss.

 

4.       WORLD PRESS PHOTO OF THE YEAR

·         Qatar-based Palestinian photographer Samar Abu Elouf won the ‘2025 World Press Photo of the Year’ for her poignant image of nine-year-old Mahmoud Ajjour, a Gazan boy who lost both arms in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City(Palestine) in March 2024.

5.       WORLD’S 1ST 10G BROADBAND NETWORK

·         China launched the world’s first 10-Gigabit (10Gbroadband network in Sunan County, Hebei Province

·         The high-speed internet is powered by next-generation 50G PON (Passive Optical Network) technology

·         In tests, download speeds reached 9,834 Megabits per second (Mbps), uploads 1,008 Mbps, and latency as low as 3 ms.

 

6.       WEF 2025 YOUNG GLOBAL LEADERS HONOUR

·         The World Economic Forum (WEF) released the 2025 list of Young Global Leaders (YGL), recognizing 116 leaders under the age of 40 from who have significantly contributed to various fields, including business, politics, science, and the arts.

·         Seven Indian personalities were selected are 1.Ritesh Agarwal CEO OYO Hotels ,Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Nipun Malhotra Nipman Foundation, Alok Medikepura Anil ,Next Big Innovation Labs ,Natarajan Sankar Boston Consulting Group , Manasi Subramaniam Penguin Random House
and Anurag Maloo Mountaineer

 

7.       MACGREGOR MEMORIAL MEDAL FOR 2023 & 2024

·         General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of India, felicitated five personnel of the Indian Armed Forces with the ‘MacGregor Memorial Medal’ at the United Service Institution of India (USI), New Delhi,

·         The awards recognized exceptional contributions in military reconnaissance, exploration, and adventure activities.

·         For 2023 to Wing Commander D. Panda IAF, Rahul Kumar Pandey Indian Navy (IN)

·         For 2024 to Ram Ratan Jat IN,Sergeant Jhumar Ram Poonia IAF, Colonel Ranvir Singh Jamwal, Director of the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS)

·         Award is Open to all ranks (serving/retired) of the Armed Forces, Territorial Army, Reserve Forces, Rashtriya Rifles, and Assam Rifles.

 

 

8.       LAUREUS WORLD SPORTS AWARDS 2025

·         The Laureus World Sports Awards 2025 was held in Madrid, Spain.

·         Armand Gustav Duplantis, also known as Mondo Duplantis, a pole vaulter from Sweden, was honoured with the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award 2025.

·         Simone Biles, a gymnast from the USA, received the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award 2025.

·         Real Madrid Men’s Football Team of Spain won the Laureus World Team of the Year.

·         Lamine Yamal, a football player of Spain, won the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year

·         Jiang Yuyan, a para swimmer from China, was honoured with Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability.

 

9.       GOLDMAN ENVIRONMENTAL PRIZE 2025

·         USA based Goldman Environmental Foundation announced the recipients of the 36th Goldman Environmental Prize (2025), also known as the ‘Green Nobel Prize’, honouring seven grassroots environmental activists for their outstanding contributions to environmental protection across the six inhabited continental regions.

·         The 2025 award was presented to the 7 recipients from six geographical regions

·         Batmunkh Luvsandash, a former electrical engineer from Mongolia, has been awarded the 2025 Goldman Environmental Prize for Asia.

 

10.    EXERCISE ‘DESERT FLAG-10’

·         Exercise Desert Flag-10, a premier multinational air combat exercise hosted by the UAE Air Force.

·         It is an annual multinational large-force employment warfare exercise hosted by the UAE Air Force.
The 2025 edition includes air forces from 12 countries, namely India, Australia, Bahrain, France, Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom (UK), the United States of America (USA), and the host nation UAE.
