1. FAO’s GRFC 2025
·
Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) released
its latest report titled ‘2025 Global Report on Food
Crisis (GRFC)’.
·
The report revealed that nearly 300
million (295.3 million) people across 53 countries and territories faced acute levels of hunger in 2024,
marking an increase of 13.7 million compared to 2023.
·
Also,
nearly 23% of the total people analysed by the report, faced acute food insecurity.
·
It is the 5th consecutive
year that the number of people facing high levels of acute food
insecurity remained above 20% and overall 6th
consecutive year of increase in these levels.
·
The
number of people facing catastrophic
food crises (IPC/CH Phase-5) more than doubled between 2023 and 2024, to
reach 1.9 million , which is the highest figure on record since
the GRFC started tracking in 2016.
·
This
food crisis is mainly driven by armed
conflict.
·
More than 90% of people facing extreme
levels of hunger are in Gaza and Sudan.

2. INDIRA GANDHI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
RANKS 9TH BUSIEST AIRPORTS FOR 2024-25: ACI WORLD
·
Montreal (Canada)-based Airports Council
International (ACI) World released the Top
10 Busiest Airports by Passenger Traffic in 2024-25 list.
·
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA)
ranked 9th globally.
·
GIA saw passenger traffic of 77,
820, 834 and has emerged as the busiest airport by passenger
traffic in India.
·
Atlanta,
USA based Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta (ATL) has topped the list followed by
Dubai International Airport(DXB) at 2nd .
·
The USA
remains at the forefront of global passenger traffic, with five of the top 10 busiest airports located
within the country.
·
In
Asia
Indira Gandhi International Airport
(DEL) ranks as the 3rd busiest airport, trailing behind Dubai International
Airport (DXB) and Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND).

TIME100 PHILANTHROPY 2025 LIST
·
TIME magazine, has
released the inaugural edition of “TIME
100 Most Influential People in Philanthropy 2025”.
·
Mukesh Ambani and his
wife Nita Ambani; Azim Premji, former
chairman of WIPRO Limited and Nikhil Kamath,
Co-founder of Zerodha are among other Indians featured on the list.
·
Michael Bloomberg, co-founder, CEO of Bloomberg LP, was named
the largest individual donor of 2024, contributing USD
3.7 billion to various causes, including a USD1 billion donation to Johns Hopkins University to make medical education more accessible.
·
The
list has categorised the influential people in philanthropy into 4 different
categories: Titans, Leaders, Trailblazers and Innovators.
4.
TEESTA PRAHAR EXERCISE
·
The Indian Army (IA) successfully
conducted a large-scale integrated field training exercise named ‘Teesta Prahar’ at
the Teesta field firing range in West
Bengal (WB).
·
The exercise demonstrated operational preparedness and the seamless coordination between combat and
support units of IA in challenging riverine terrain.
5.
‘BHARGAVASTRA’ COUNTER-DRONE SYSTEM
·
India successfully
conducted trials of its indigenously developed low-cost counter-drone
system, Bhargavastra, at the Seaward Firing Range in
Gopalpur, Odisha.
·
The system has been developed
by Nagpur (Maharashtra)-based Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL),
a subsidiary of Solar Industries India Limited (SIIL).
·
Bhargavastra
operates in a hard kill mode, employing unguided micro-rockets as the first
layer of defense to neutralize drone swarms within a lethal radius of 20
meters (m).
·
The
system can detect small and incoming drones at distances up to 2.5
kilometers (km), while its radar can identify small aerial
threats within a range of 6 to 10 km.
·
It is equipped with an Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) sensor
suite that enables accurate detection and tracking of Low Radar
Cross-Section (LRCS) targets.
6. INDIAN ARMY & NDRF CONDUCTED
‘EXERCISE RAAHAT’
·
The Indian Army (IA) Engineers
under the Spear Corps, in collaboration with National Disaster Relief
Force (NDRF) conducted ‘Exercise Raahat’
at Rangapahar Military Station in Dimapur, Nagaland.
·
The NDRF is India’s premier specialized
force established in 2006 under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
·
It operates under the Ministry of Home
Affairs(MHA) and functions as the operational arm of the National Disaster
Management Authority (NDMA).
7.
ISRO’S PSLV-C61 MISSION FAILS
·
ISRO attempted its 101st
mission by launching the Earth Observation Satellite (EOS-09)
aboard the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C61) from the
Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh (AP).
·
The mission failed due to a third-stage(PS3) anomaly.
·
The
PSLV is a four-stage launch vehicle
designed for efficient satellite deployment.
·
Its first stage (PS1) comprises a solid rocket motor
accompanied by six strap-on boosters.
·
The second stage (PS2) uses the liquid-fueled Vikas engine.
·
The third stage (PS3) operates with a solid rocket motor to deliver
high thrust.
·
The final stage (PS4) is powered by two Earth-storable
liquid engines.
·
EOS-09 Satellite is also known as RISAT-1B, the
satellite formed part of India’s Earth Observation Satellite series and marked
the program’s ninth mission.
·
Its Purpose is to Provide 24/7 all-weather
surveillance using C-band Synthetic
Aperture Radar (SAR) for applications
in agriculture, disaster management, forestry, and border security.

KIYG 2025: MAHARASHTRA TOPS
·
The 7th edition
of the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025,
was held across five cities in Bihar (Patna,
Rajgir, Gaya, Bhagalpur, and Begusarai) and New Delhi .
·
Maharashtra leads the
medal tally with 58 gold, 47 silver, and 53 bronze medals, totaling 158 medals
·
It is followed by Haryana with
117 medals (39 gold, 27 silver and 51 bronze) and Rajasthan in
third place with 60 medals (24 gold, 12 silver and 24 bronze).
·

sports disciplines in Khelo India Youth Games 2025.
·
Sepaktakraw
has been included for the first time.
·
E-sports
have been included as a demonstration
sport.
9.
INDIA’S 86TH CHESS GM
·
L.R. Srihari from Tamil
Nadu became India’s 86th chess Grandmaster (GM) by
securing his third GM norm at the Asian Individual Men’s
Chess Championship 2025 which held in Al-Ain, United Arab
Emirates (UAE).
·
P Shyaamnikhil (TN) became India’s 85th GM on 12
May 2024 at the Dubai Police Masters Chess Tournament (Dubai).
·
India’s First GM Viswanathan Anand (1988).
·
First Woman GM Koneru Humpy (2002)
·
Grandmaster (GM) is the highest
title a chess player can attain. FIDE
rating of 2500 at one time and three favorable results in tournaments
(called norms) involving other Grandmasters, including some from countries
other than the applicant’s.

International Master (IM) Requires
a minimum rating of 2400 and three
norms.
10.
ASIAN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
·
Grandmaster (GM) Bardiya Daneshvar of Iran won the Open category, and International Master (IM) Song Yuxin of
China claimed the Women’s title at
the 2025 Asian Chess Championship, held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
·
The championship featured participation
from more than 250 players representing 38 countries.
·
GM
Daneshvar Bardiya won gold with 7/9 points, edging India’s GM Nihal Sarin on
tiebreaks despite losing to him in the final round in the open category.
