1. FIDE WGP 2024-25

Grandmaster (GM) Zhu Jiner (China) topped the
overall leaderboard of the International Chess Federation (FIDE)
Women’s Grand Prix (WGP) Series 2024–25 with
a total of 352.5 points.
·
This achievement came after the conclusion
of the sixth and final event of the
series, the 2025 Grosslobming FIDE
WGP, held in Grosslobming, Austria.
·
GM Aleksandra Goryachkina (Russia)
has secured the 2nd place in the leaderboard by
scoring 308.34 points.
·
Koneru Humpy secured 4th position.
·
FIDE
WGP series 2024–2025 comprised six WGP
tournaments conducted over two years (2024–2025) across six international venues.
·
The
event featured a total of 20 players,
who participated in three out of six WGP tournaments.

Top
two players qualified for the 2026 FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament.

DOHA DIAMOND LEAGUE 2025
·
India’s Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra secured second
place with a personal best and national record throw of 90.23 metres (m)
in the Doha Diamond League 2025 held at the Qatar
Sports Club in Doha, Qatar.

Germany’s Julian Weber clinched
the first position in the men’s javelin throw event
with a personal best of 91.06 m, while Anderson
Peters of Grenada, a two-time World Champion, secured the third position with an 85.34 m throw.
·
Parul Chaudhary of India secured sixth place
in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with 9:13.39, improving from
her previous mark of 9:15.31 set at the 2023 World
Championships.

With this she broke her national
record and qualified for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

SUPERBET CHESS CLASSIC ROMANIA 2025

Indian Grandmaster (GM) Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa secured
his maiden Grand Chess Tour (GCT) title by
winning the Superbet Chess Classic Romania 2025,
held in Bucharest (Romania)

Praggnanandhaa clinched the title via
a three-way blitz playoff against GMs Alireza Firouzja (France)
and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France),
·
The
tournament featured 10 elite GMs from across the globe and followed a single
round-robin classical format
·
In
January 2025, Praggnanandhaa became the first Indian chess player to
win the 2025 Tata Steel Chess Masters title (the
Netherlands), since Vishwanathan Anand won it in 2006.

SAFF U-19 CHAMPIONSHIP
·
The Indian men’s under-19
football team clinched their 4th South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U-19
Championship(2025) title by defeating Bangladesh in
the final was held in Yupia, Arunachal Pradesh (AR), India.
·
The Indian U-19 football team, popularly
known as the ‘Blue Colts’ and led by
captain Singamayum Shami, defeated Bangladesh 4–3 in a penalty shootout following a 1–1
draw in regulation time to win the title.

·
Indian cue sports legend Pankaj
Advani secured his third consecutive 2025 CCI
Billiards Classic title by defeating Dhruv Sitwala in the final
held at the Wilson Jones Billiards Hall in Mumbai

The Government of India (GoI) has honoured
Pankaj Advani with several prestigious awards, including the Arjuna Award (2004),
the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award (2006),
the Padma Shri in the Sports category (2009), and
the Padma Bhushan in the Sports category
(2018).
8. SEBI MANDATED EBP FOR ALL PRIVATE
DEBT ISSUES ABOVE RS 20 CRORE
·
SEBI mandated the use of Electronic Book Platform (EBP) for
all private placement debt issues of 20 crore or above.
·
Previously,
electronic book mechanism was compulsory for all private placements of debt
securities with an issue size of Rs 50
crore or above.
·
As per SEBI’s new framework, the
requirement to use EBP platform now covers private placements of debt
securities, non-convertible redeemable preference shares (NCRPS), and
municipal bonds, including single, shelf, and follow-on issues within a
financial year.
·
SEBI was first established in 1988 as a
non-statutory body for regulating the securities market. Later it acquired
regulating authority status for the Indian securities market in 1992.

DOT INTRODUCES “FINANCIAL FRAUD RISK INDICATOR”
·
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry
of Communications (MoC) has announced sharing of
“Financial Fraud Risk Indicators (FRI)” with
stakeholders, marking a major step towards combating cyber fraud and financial
crimes.
·
FRI,
a multi-dimensional analytical tool is developed
as part of the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP), DoT,
to empower financial institutions with advance actionable intelligence for
cyber fraud prevention.
·
FRI,
a risk-based metric that classifies a mobile number to have been associated
with Medium, High, or Very High risk of financial fraud.
·
This
classification is the result of the
inputs obtained from various stakeholders including reporting on Indian
Cybercrime Coordination Cengtre (I4C’s), National Cybercrime Reporting Portal
(NCRP), DoT’s Chakshu platform, and Intelligence shared by banks and financial
institutions.
·
It
empowers stakeholders, especially banks,
Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) and Unified Payment Interface (UPI)
service providers, to prioritize
enforcement and take additional measures when a mobile number has high risk.
·
The Digital Intelligence Unit (DIU), DoT,
regularly shares the list of mobile
numbers that were disconnected (Mobile Number Revocation List, MNRL) with
stakeholders along with the reasons for disconnections such as cyber-crime,
failed re-verification, exceeding prescribed limits.
·
As soon as a suspected mobile number is flagged by a stakeholder, it
undergoes multi-dimensional analysis and is classified according to the risk.

NATIONAL DENGUE DAY 2025 – MAY 16
·
National Dengue Day is
observed every year on May 16 across India to
raise awareness about dengue fever, a mosquito-borne
viral disease, and to promote its prevention and control measures.

The

16. NATIONAL ANTI-TERRORISM DAY 2025 –

·
National Anti-Terrorism Day is

(PM) Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated in 1991 by a suicide bomber associated with the
Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)
