1. NEW CHIEF OF R&AW
·
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet
(ACC) approved the appointment of Parag Jain,
a 1989 batch senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Punjab cadre,
as the new Secretary of the Research and Analysis
Wing (R&AW), the external intelligence agency of
India.
·
He will succeed the current R&AW
Chief, Ravi Sinha, who is set to retire on 30th June
2025.
·
Jain will assume charge on 1st July 2025
for a fixed tenure of two years.
2.
RBIEXECUTIVE
DIRECTOR
·
Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
appointed Kesavan Ramachandran as
an Executive Director (ED), effective
immediately.
·
As ED, he will lead the Department
of Regulation (Prudential Regulation Division), which is
responsible for shaping the regulatory framework governing Indian banks.

SEBI EXECUTIVE
DIRECTOR
·
Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) appointed Sunil Jayawant Kadam as
its ED
·
As ED, Sunil Jayawant Kadam will
oversee key functional divisions, Information Technology Department (ITD),
Office of Investor Assistance & Education (OIAE), Department of Economic
& Policy Analysis (DEPA), General Services Department (GSD), Board Cell,
right to Information (RTI) & Parliamentary Questions Cell, and matters
related to the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM).
4.
CEO OF RESERVE BANK INNOVATION HUB
·
Sahil Kini, co-founder of Setu, has
been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the
Bengaluru based Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH).
·
RBIH was established in March 2022 and
operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
5.
INDIAN
NAVY 1ST WOMAN FIGHTER PILOT
·
The Indian Navy (IN) inducted Sub-Lieutenant
(SLt) Aastha Poonia from Uttar
Pradesh as the first woman pilot in the fighter stream of
Naval Aviation.
·
This milestone was marked during the graduation ceremony of the Second Basic
Hawk Conversion Course at Indian Naval Station (INS) Dega, Visakhapatnam,
Andhra Pradesh (AP).
·
During the ceremony, the prestigious ‘Wings
of Gold’ were presented to SLt Aastha Poonia along
with Lieutenant (Lt) Atul Kumar Dhull by
Rear Admiral Janak Bevli, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Air) (ACNS Air).
·
This achievement follows the Indian Air Force (IAF) decision in 2016 to induct
women into fighter streams, where 25 women fighter pilots currently serve.
·
She is the first woman cleared to train
for carrier-based fighter operations in the IN.
·
Earlier,
women officers were inducted as pilots in Maritime Reconnaissance (MR) aircraft and helicopters.
6.
CO-PRESIDENT OF BRICS CCI WOMEN’S WING
·
New Delhi based BRICS Chamber of Commerce
and Industry (BRICS CCI) has appointed Priyanka Kakkar, Chief
Spokesperson of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), as Co-President of its Women’s Wing
for a period of two years i.e. from Financial Year 2024-25 (FY25)
to FY27.

Ruby
Sinha, founder of SheAtWork, currently serves as the President of the BRICS CCI Women’s Wing.
·
BRICS
CCI is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes economic
collaboration among BRICS+ countries namely, Brazil, Russia, India, China,
South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and
Indonesia.

UNIFIED FLOOD FORECASTING SYSTEM ‘ C- FLOOD’
·
Union Minister ChandrakantRaghunath
(C.R) Patil, Ministry of Jal Shakthi (MoJS), inaugurated
the C-FLOOD, a web-based Flood Forecasting System at
Shram Shakti Bhawan in New Delhi, marking a transformative step in India’s flood management and disaster response
framework.

C-FLOOD was collaboratively developed by
the Pune (Maharashtra) based Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) under
MeitY, New Delhi-based Central Water Commission(CWC), Department
of Water Resources (DoWR), River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation
(RD&GR), MoJS.
·
C-FLOOD
platform uses advanced Two-Dimension (2-D) hydrodynamic
modelling to simulate flood scenarios.
·
C-FLOOD provides flood forecasts up to village level in two
days in advance in the form of flood inundation maps and water
level predictions.
8.
INDORE LAUNCHES INDIA’S FIRST QR-BASED DIGITAL HOUSE ADDRESS
SYSTEM
·
The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC)
of Indore, Madhya Pradesh (MP), launched India’s
first Quick Response (QR)–based digital house
address project to modernise
civic services and improve urban governance under India’s Smart
Cities Mission.
·
The project features unique QR-coded
digital plates installed on every house.
·
By scanning the code with a smartphone,
citizens and authorities can instantly retrieve the property’s precise digital
address, mapped accurately with Global Positioning System (GPS).
·
Scanning
the QR code allows residents to pay property tax and water
tax, and lodge civic complaints without the need to visit government offices
physically.
·
The project has been integrated with the
Digital Postal Index Number (Digipin), a 10-character alphanumeric code, developed
by the Department of Posts (DoP), under
the Ministry of Communications (MoC).

GLOBAL SATELLITE DEPLOYMENT 2025
·
According to the latest data there are approximately 12,952
active objects orbiting Earth.
·
Of these, 145 satellites were
launched during the year 2025 alone.
·
Satellites are typically deployed in
orbits around Earth, including the Geostationary Orbit (GEO), Medium
Earth Orbit (MEO), and Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
·
USA with 8,530
satellites in orbit (as of November 2024), emerged as the country
with the highest number of satellites
across the world.
·
Russia accounts for 1,559 satellites
in Earth’s orbit, which makes it world’s 2nd country with most satellites in
space
·
Indian accounts about 136
satellites including those from private operators or academic
institutions, that have been launched in Earth’s orbit (as of December 31,
2024).
10.
2025 BONN CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE
·
The 62nd Sessions
of the Subsidiary Bodies of the United
Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) i.e. (SB62) or
also known as 2025 Bonn Climate Change
Conference was held at the World Conference Center Bonn (WCCB)
in Bonn, Germany.
·
It served
as a key preparatory platform for 30th session of the Conference of the
Parties to the UNFCCC(COP30), set to
be held in Belém, Brazil, in
November 2025.
·
During the conference, discussions were
held on the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA), aims to
identify a common goal on adaption, just like limiting surface temperature
below 1.5 degree celsius(°C), which is a global goal on mitigating GreenHouse
Gas(GHG) emissions.

SURINAME TO EARN WHO MALARIA-FREE CERTIFICATION
·
Suriname, a country in South America, has become the first
country in the Amazon region to be certified malaria-free World
Health Organization (WHO).
·
Including Suriname, 46
countries and 1 territory have been
certified as malaria-free by WHO to date.
·
Certification of Malaria
elimination is granted by WHO when a country has proven, beyond reasonable
doubt, that the chain of indigenous transmission has been interrupted nationwide for at least the
previous three consecutive years.
·
Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by Plasmodium parasites, which
are transmitted to humans through the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.
·
Malaria is caused by five species of the Plasmodium parasite, including Plasmodium
falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium malariae, Plasmodium ovale, Plasmodium
knowlesi.

QUAD
FOREIGN MINISTERS’ MEETING (QFMM)
·
Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Ministry
of External Affairs (MEA) visited USA at the
invitation of USA Secretary of State Marco Rubio to participate
in the QUAD Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (QFMM).
·
10th QFMM,was hosted by the USA
Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington, D.C.
·
QFMM
was
attended by the Penny Wong, Foreign Minister (FM) of Australia and Japan’s FMIwaya
Takeshi.
·
The coast
guards of QUAD nations have launched the 1st
–ever ‘QUAD-at-Sea Ship Observer Mission’ under Wilmington Declaration, aimed to
bolster maritime security and interoperability in the vast Indo-Pacific region.
·
QUAD
nations announced the launch of ambitious ‘Critical
Minerals Initiative’, following the meeting of Foreign Ministers
of QUAD group.
