1.       SEBI EASES COMPLIANCE NORMS FOR FPIS

·         The 210th meeting of the SEBI Board was held in Mumbai, Maharashtra has approved compliance relaxations for foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) investing exclusively in Indian government securities (G-secs) to simplify onboarding.

·         SEBI clears co-investment framework for Category I and II AIFs (Alternate Investment Funds).

·         Currently, foreign investors invest in Indian debt through three routes — General, Voluntary Retention Route (VRR) and the Fully Accessible Route (FAR).

·         General Route: Foreign investors can invest in Indian debt within Reserve Bank of India (RBI)-prescribed limits and conditions.

·         VRR: Allows long-term investments with relaxed norms in exchange for a minimum 3-year retention commitment.

·         FAR: Permits unrestricted investment by foreign investors in specified government securities.

2.       RBI REVISES PSL NORMS FOR SFBS

·         The Reserve Bank of India(RBI) revised the regulatory lending norms for Small Finance Banks (SFBs), reducing the mandated allocation to priority sectors by 15%.

·         From the Financial Year 2025-26(FY26), Priority Sector Lending (PSL) loans target for SFBs has been lowered to 60% of their loans from 75% earlier.

·         The SFB are required to allocate 40% of their Adjusted Net Bank Credit (ANBC) or Credit Equivalent of Off-Balance Sheet Exposures (CEOBE) to specific sub-sectors defined under PSL guidelines and the remaining 35% to any PSL sub-sector where they have a competitive advantage.

·         From FY26, this additional component (35%) of PSL allocation will be reduced to 20%, thereby making the overall PSL target as 60 % of ANBC or CEOBE, whichever is higher.

 

3.       RBI EXTENDS CALL MONEY MARKET TIMINGS BY 2 HOURS

·         Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the trading hours for the interbank call money market by 2 hours with effect from July 01, 2025.

·         As per RBI directions, the call money market will now operate from 9 am to 7pm instead of current 9 am to 5 pm.

·         RBI has also revised the closing time for Market Repo and Tri-party Repo (TREP) transactions from around 2:30–3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., effective August 1, 2025.

·         These revised timings are based on the recommendations of the Working Group chaired by Radha Shyam Ratho, Executive Director (ED), RBI.

·         The call money market is exclusively accessed by banks and Standalone Primary Dealers (SPDs) who are participants with access to the liquidity adjustment facilities of the RBI.

 

4.       RBI REPORT: INDIA RECORDS CURRENT ACCOUNT SURPLUS OF USD 13.5 BILLION

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released data on ‘India’s Balance of Payments for Q4 (January–March) FY25’, showing that India’s current account balance posted a surplus of USD 13.5 billion (1.3% of Gross Domestic Product, GDP) in the fourth quarter (Q4) of Financial Year 2024–25 (FY25).

·         This surplus was higher compared to USD 4.6 billion (0.5% of GDP) in Q4 FY24, and a significant improvement from a deficit of USD 11.3 billion (1.1% of GDP) in Q3 FY25.

·         Merchandise Trade Deficit Moderated to USD 59.5 billion from USD 79.3 billion in Q3 FY25, though higher than USD 52 billion in Q4 FY24.

·         Current Account Deficit (CAD): Narrowed to USD 23.3 billion (0.6% of GDP) from USD 26 billion (0.7% of GDP) in FY24, aided by higher net invisibles receipts (services and remittances).

 

5.       RBI PENALIZES FOUR CO-OPERATIVE BANKS

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed monetary penalties on four cooperative banks for breaching various provisions under the Banking Regulation (BR) Act, 1949

·         The four cooperative banks are Hyderabad (Telangana) based Hyderabad District Cooperative Central Bank (HDCCB), Karimnagar (Telangana) based Karimnagar District Cooperative Central Bank (KDCCB), Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh, AP) based Chittoor Co-operative Town Bank (CCTB), and Bengaluru (Karnataka) based Karnataka Co-operative Bank (KCB).

·         HDCCB and the KDCCB are fined for Rs. 1 lakh each.

·         CCTB was fined Rs.1 lakh for failing to comply with RBI instructions concerning Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs), regarding exposure norms and Know Your Customer (KYC) lines.

·         KCB was penalized Rs.1 lakh for comparable non-compliance.

 

6.       INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA 2025 – JUNE 21

·         The theme for IDY 2025, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, emphasizes the deep interconnection between individual health and planetary well-being.

·         The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution A/RES/69/131 on December 11, 2014, declaring June 21 as IDY.

·         The first IYD was observed on June 21, 2015.

·         On IYD 2025, a national event was led by PM Narendra Modi in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP), where over 3 lakh participants performed the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) simultaneously with thousands at 100,000+ locations across India, part of the “Yoga Sangam” initiative.

 

7.       WORLD MUSIC DAY 2025 – JUNE 21

·         It is inspired by the French slogan “Faites de la musique” (translated as “Make Music”), which reflects the core purpose of the observance, to inspire self-expression and participation through music.

·         The theme for World Music Day 2025 is “Healing Through Harmony.”

·         World Music Day was initiated in France in 1982 by Jack Lang, then French Minister of Culture, and Maurice Fleuret, a music journalist and composer. 

 

8.       UNITED NATIONS PUBLIC SERVICE DAY 2025 – JUNE 23

·         The United Nations (UN’s) Public Service Day is annually observed across the globe on June 23 to celebrate the fundamental value and virtue of public service to communities worldwide.

·         The 2025 UN Public Service Forum and Awards Ceremony is scheduled to take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

·         The theme is “Five Years to 2030: Accelerating Public Service Delivery for a Sustainable Future”.

 

9.       INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY 2025- JUNE 23

·         International Widows’ Day was initiated in 2005 by the United Kingdom (UK)-based Loomba Foundation, a charitable organisation dedicated to advocating for the rights and welfare of widows globally.

·         The first UN-recognised observance of the day took place on 23rd June 2011 .

 

10.    INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC DAY 2025 – JUNE 23

·         The day commemorates the establishment of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 23rd June 1894 at the Sorbonne in Paris, where French historian Baron Pierre de Coubertin initiated the revival of the ancient Olympic Games, which led to the first modern Olympics in Athens, Greece in 1896.

·         The theme for International Olympic Day 2025 is “Let’s Move?”, encouraging individuals to become active through walking, playing, running, or dancing.

 

11.    INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING 2025 – JUNE 26

·         The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), headquartered in Vienna, Austria, leads the annual observance by selecting a campaign theme, conducting awareness drives.

·         The 2025 theme for International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is “Break the Cycle. #StopOrganizedCrime”.

 

12.    WORLD MSME DAY 2025 – JUNE 27

·         The United Nations (UN’s) World Micro-, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSME) Day is annually observed across the globe on 27 June to recognize MSMEs’ role in innovation and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

·         The theme of MSME Day 2025 is “Enhancing the Role of MSMEs as Drivers of Sustainable Growth and Innovation”.

 

13.    BOOK “WINGS TO OUR HOPES – VOLUME 2”

·         Book ‘Wings to Our Hopes – Volume II’, a curated collection of 51 speeches delivered by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, during her second year in office (August 2023 to July 2024).

·         The collection has also been released in Hindi as ‘Aashaon Ki Udaan – Khand 2’ along with e-book versions.

 

14.    BOOK “THE EMERGENCY DIARIES – YEARS THAT FORGED A LEADER”

·         Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), released a book titled “The Emergency Diaries – Years that Forged a Leader”, to mark ‘SamvidhanHatyaDiwas’, commemorating the anti-Emergency movement in India. 

·         The book highlights the role of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi as a young Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Pracharak during the 21-month-long Emergency period (1975–1977), which was imposed by the then PM Indira Gandhi.

 

15.    THE ONE: CRICKET, MY LIFE AND MORE

·         Former Indian Cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has debuted as an author with his memoir, “The One: Cricket, My Life and More”, in which he has shared about his professional life as a cricketer, as a champion player and his personal life.

·         The book is published by Gurugram (Haryana) based HarperCollins India.
