1.       NEW GOVERNORS & LT GOVERNOR

·         Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh has been appointed as the new Governor of Haryana, succeeding Bandaru Dattatreya, who served in the role since July 2021.

·         Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju has been appointed as the new Governor of Goa, replacing P S Sreedharan Pillai.

·         Kavinder Gupta, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), has been appointed as the new LG of the UT of Ladakh.

 



2.       FOUR PERSONALITIES NOMINATED TO RAJYA SABHA

·         President Droupadi Murmu nominated four distinguished individuals to the Rajya Sabha under Article 80(1)(a) of the Constitution of India.

·         Ujjwal Deorao Nikam – A renowned Public Prosecutor notable for high-profile criminal trials such as the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack and 1993 Bombay blasts.

·         Harsh Vardhan Shringla – Former Indian Foreign Secretary and ex-Ambassador to the USA and Bangladesh.

·         CSadanandan Master – A senior social worker and educationist from Kerala with decades of grassroots-level service.

·         Dr. Meenakshi Jain – A noted historian and academician recognised for her contributions to Indian civilisation studies.

 

3.       MD & CEO OF LIC

·         The Government of India (GoI), based on the recommendation of the Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB), has appointed R. Doraiswamy as the new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of India’s largest life insurer, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC).

·         He will continue until he attains the age of 62 years or until further orders, whichever occurs earlier.

 

4.       FIRST WOMAN TO LEAD RPF

·         The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Sonali Mishra, senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, as the first female Director General(DG) of the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

·         The RPF, based in New Delhi, is a central armed police organization functioning under the Ministry of Railways (MoR). Established by the RPF Act of 1957, the force was granted authority in 1966 to investigate, arrest, and prosecute individuals involved in the unlawful possession of railway property.

·         In 1985, the RPF was officially designated as an “Armed Force of the Union”.

 

5.       NEW PM OF UKRAINE

·         Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) appointed Yulia Anatoliivna Svyrydenko, as the new PM, with 262 out of 450 lawmakers voting in her favor, 22 against, and 26 abstaining.

·         Yuliia Svyrydenko, who is set to become the second woman PM of Ukraine after Yulia Tymoshenko.

·         Ukraine President – Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

·         Capital – Kyiv.

 

6.       CHAIRPERSON OF NFRA

·         The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by the PM Narendra Modi, has appointed Nitin Gupta as the new chairperson of the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA), under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs(MoCA).

·         The NFRA, based in New Delhi was constituted on 1st October 2018 by the Government of India (GoI)
the duties of NFRA are to recommend accounting and auditing policies and standards.

·         To monitor and enforce compliance with accounting standards and auditing standards across applicable companies

·         To oversee the quality of auditing.

·         To initiate investigations and exercise disciplinary authority.

 

7.        ‘SANCHAR MITRA SCHEME’

·         The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications, launched the nationwide ‘Sanchar Mitra Scheme’ to engage student volunteers as Digital Ambassadors (Sanchar Mitras) promoting telecom awareness and digital literacy.

·         Its Aim is to bridge the gap between citizens and India’s telecom ecosystem through youth participation.

·         Under this initiative, student volunteers, designated as Sanchar Mitras, will spread awareness on digital safety, cyber fraud prevention, Electromagnetic Field (EMF) radiation, and responsible mobile usage.

·         3 core pillars of scheme are: Connect, Educate, and Innovate, promoting secure, responsible, and inclusive telecom usage.

·         Top-performing Sanchar Mitras will be eligible for internship opportunities, participate in national telecom projects, and gain exposure at platforms like India Mobile Congress and International Telecommunication Union (ITU) forums.

 

8.       INDIA’S FIRST DIGITAL NOMAD VILLAGE

·         Yakten village in Pakyong district, Sikkim, was officially declared India’s first digital nomad village under the ‘Nomad Sikkim’ initiative. 

·         This initiative aims to transform Himalayan locations into year-round hubs for remote workers (digital nomads) from across India and abroad by addressing seasonal income challenges faced by homestay operators, particularly during the six-month off-season from April to October.

 

9.       TALASH INITIATIVE FOR EMRS TRIBAL STUDENTS

·         The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), in collaboration with United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) India launched ‘Tribal Aptitude, Life Skills and Self-Esteem Hub (TALASH)’.

·         This new initiative is a national-program which aims to support the all-round development of Tribal students in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs).

·         Some of the key features of the initiative: psychometric assessments, career counselling, life skills & self-esteem modules, and e-learning for teachers.

 

10.    HELPLINE NUMBER FOR WASTE PICKERS 

·         Union Minister of State (MoS) B.L. Verma, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE), launched the helpline number 14473 for waste pickers, during a special programme organised on the occasion of the ‘National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE) Day’ in Lucknow, UP.
