1.       FIRST WOMAN OF INDIAN ORIGIN TO CHAIR UNEP FI PSI BOARD

·         The United Nations (UN) appointed Amita Chaudhary, Group Head of Sustainability at American International Assurance Company(AIA), one of Asia’s largest life insurance company, as the Chair of the Board of United Nations Environment Programme Financial Initiative (UNEP FI) Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI).

·         With this appointment, she became the first woman of Indian origin to lead the Global Sustainable Insurance Board.

·         The PSI, established in 2012 under the UNEP FI, is a global governance body that oversees the implementation and strategic direction of the PSI initiative.

·         The PSI Board is composed of up to 15 members, with a maximum of 14 senior-level officers elected from PSI signatory institutions.

·         The UNEP FI is a global collaboration between the United Nations and the financial sector, comprising over 500 members, including banks, insurers, and investors.

·         Headquarters- Geneva, Switzerland.

 

2.       CDS & SECRETARY OF DMA

·         The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, extended the tenure of General Anil Chauhan as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Secretary of Department of Military Affairs (DMA) under the Ministry of Defence(MoD), until 30th May 2026.

 

3.       CENTRE EXTENDS TENURE OF R. VENKATARAMANI AS AGI 

·         The President of India and the Ministry of Law and Justice (MoL&J) have announced the re-appointment of Senior Advocate R.Venkataramani as the Attorney General of India (AGI)  for two more years.

·         He appointed as 16th AGI of India and his present three-year term is about to end on September 30,2025

·         R. Venkataramani succeeded veteran jurist K.K. Venugopal as the Attorney General (AG) on September 30, 2022.

·         He published a volume of his poems titled Roses Without Thorns last year.

·         The Attorney General is the highest law officer of the Union Government (UG) and serves as its principal legal advisor. 

·         Appointed by the President under Article 76(1) of the Constitution, the Attorney General holds office during the President’s pleasure on the recommendation of the Union Cabinet (UC).

·         According to the article 76(4), There is no fixed tenure for the AGI.

·         Under article 88, the AG shall have the right to speak and take part in all the proceedings of Lok sabha and Rajya sabha including joint sitting of the Houses, and any committee of Parliament for which he is added as a member.

·         He is not subjected to vote.

·         The AG enjoys the right to be present in any court throughout the country.

·         Besides handling government litigations, the AGI also advises the government on complex legal issues

4.       INDIA-AI IMPACT SUMMIT 2026

·         Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has unveiled the logo and flagship initiatives for the upcoming India-Artificial Intelligence (AI) Impact Summit 2026, the 4th edition of international AI Symposium.

·         The Summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi.

·         The official logo of the summit features Ashoka Chakra, an emblem of ethical governance, justice, and constitutional values.

·         The India-AI Impact Summit 2026 will feature flagship initiatives: AI Pitch Fest (UDAAN),  Global Innovation Challengers for Youth, Women and Other Participants, Research Symposium and AI Expo.

 

5.       11 YEARS OF MAKE IN INDIA INITIATIVE

·         On 25th September 2025, the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi marked the 11th anniversary of the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

·         The initiative was launched on September 25, 2014 by the PM to transform India into a global hub for design and manufacturing.

·         It is being led by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), Government of India (GoI).

 

6.       GOI TO DISCARD PAPER ARRIVAL CARDS FOR FOREIGNERS 

·         The Government of India (GoI) has decided to discontinue the physical disembarkation form ( i.e.  Paper Arrival Cards) for foreigners travelling to India from October 1, 2025 as stated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA).

·         Instead now travelers can submit a Digital Arrival Card online for smooth immigration process at the arrival counters.

·         Pre-Departure Submission: The digital card can be completed before departure, allowing for a smoother entry process upon arrival in India.

·         Other Countries: With this moves India will join Singapore , the United Kingdom (UK) ,Twain like countries who already succeeded doing this.

 

7.       25TH ASIAN REGIONAL CONFERENCE

·         India was elected as a member of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) Asian Committee for the term 2025-29 during the 25th Asian Regional Conference held at the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) in Singapore.

·         India was represented by a delegation from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

·         The INTERPOL Asian Committee advises the Asian Regional Conference and facilitates deliberations by providing understanding of strategic and operational law enforcement issues in Asia.

·         International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL)  is the world’s largest international police organization that facilitates worldwide police cooperation and crime control.

·         Headquarters– Lyon, France.

·         Established  – 1923.

 

8.       BILATERAL MARITIME EXERCISE BETWEEN INDIA AND GREECE

·         The inaugural bilateral Maritime exercise between the Indian Navy (IN) and the Hellenic Navy (HN) held at Salamis Naval Base (Greece) and in the Mediterranean Sea.

·         IN was represented by the Indian Navy Ship (INS) Trikand, a guided missile stealth frigate.

·         HN was represented by Hellenic Ship (HS) Themistokles, Elli class frigate of the HN.

·         it is held in 2 phases Harbour Phase & Sea Phase.

 

9.       BBNJ TREATY ACHIEVES 60 RATIFICATIONS

·         The treaty, formally known as the Agreement under the United Nations (UN) Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ agreement) secured 60 ratifications, followed by the ratification of Morocco.

·         With this move, the BBNJ agreement will come into force on 17 January 2026.

·         The BBNJ treaty (also known as High Seas treaty) is the first legally binding international framework aimed at protecting marine biodiversity in the high seas, encompassing two-thirds of the world’s oceans.

·         The treaty focuses on Establishing Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in international waters.

·         Conducting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for activities that may affect the high seas.

·         As of September 2025, the BBNJ Agreement has been signed by 145 countries and ratified by 61 countries, following the ratification of Sierra.

·         On September 25, 2024, India signed the treaty but has not ratified.

·         On 17 January 2026, the treaty will enter into force after 120 days, following the deposit of 60th ratification, the minimum threshold for enforcement.

 

10.    2025 EDITION OF CSAR

·         The 2025 edition of Chief Science Advisers’ Roundtable (CSAR), convened under the South Africa’s Group-20 (G20) Presidency, was held in Pretoria, South Africa (SA).

·         Theme ‘Equity-based Science, Technology and Innovation for Inclusive Human Development and Global Sustainability.

 

11.    SCIENCE SUMMIT 2025 AT 80TH UNGA

·         In Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR)- National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR) virtually participated in the Science Summit 2025 at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (SSUNGA80) held in New York, USA.

·         ThemeWomen and Girls in Science: Driving Gender-Inclusive Innovation, Gender Equality, and Breaking Barriers,” with CSIR serving as a case study.

·         CSIR-NIScPR conducted the session titled “Driving Gender-Inclusive Innovation, Gender Equality, and Breaking Barriers-CSIR Case Study” under the theme “CSIR for 5C: Connect, Collaborate, Converge and Convert (5C) for Global Sustainable Development”.

 

12.    IAEA’S 69TH GENERAL CONFERENCE

·         The 69th General Conference (GC) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held at the Vienna International Centre in Vienna, Austria

·         The theme of the 69th GC of IAEA was “Leveraging Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development.”

·         Dr.Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), led the Indian delegation.

·         Peter Burian, Ambassador of Slovakia to IAEA, was elected the President of the 69th GC.

·         During the GC, Republic of Iran, Argentina, France, Ivory Coast, Mongolia, New Zealand, Poland, and the United States of America(USA), were elected as Vice-Chairs of the Conference.

·         Maldives became the new member state of the IAEA, following the approval of the 69th GC, bringing the total member states to 181.

·         On the sidelines of the GC, the IAEA Science Forum was held under the theme “Atoms for Water”, highlighting how nuclear and isotopic technologies can tackle global challenges.

 

13.    DADASAHEB PHALKE AWARD FOR 2023

·         The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) announced that Legendary Malayalam Actor and Padma Awardee Mohanlal Viswanathan Nair will be conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award for year 2023, India’s highest cinema honour.

·         He will be the 55th recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in recognition of his exceptional contribution to Indian cinema, becoming the second Malayalam film personality to receive it after filmmaker Adoor Gopala krishnan in 2004.

·         Dadasaheb Phalke Award was instituted in 1969 by the Government of India (GoI) to commemorate the contribution of Dhudiraj Govind Phalke(Dada Saheb Phalke) to Indian cinema.

·         Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, considered as the Father of Indian cinema, had directed India’s 1st full-length feature film named “Raja Harishchandra” in 1913.

·         In 2024, Veteran Indian Actor-turned-Politician and Padma Bhushan Awardee Mithun Chakraborty received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (for 2022) as 54th recipient.

 

14.    BEST STATE AWARD FOR SILK DEVELOPMENT

·         Andhra Pradesh (AP) has received the ‘Best State Award’ under the ‘Mera Resham-Mera Abhiman’ programme, a flagship initiative of the Central Silk Board (CSB), autonomous body which works under the Ministry of Textiles (MoT).

·         The award was presented during the 76th Central Silk Board (CSB) Foundation Day celebration held in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

·         The state’s sericulture department had previously won the ‘Best Tableau Award’ during the Independence Day Celebrations in August 2025.

 

15.    69TH BALLON D’OR

·         The 69th edition of the Ballon d’Or (2025) award ceremony took place in Paris, France.

·         Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) Forward Player, Ousmane Dembele has won the 2025 Men’s Ballon d’Or (Golden Ball Award), becoming the 6th Frenchman to win the award after Raymond Kopa (1958), Michel Platini (1983-85), Jean-Pierre Papin (1991), Zinedine Zidane (1998) and Karim Benzema (2022).

·         Barcelona and Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmati made history by winning the Women’s Ballon d’Or for the third consecutive year (2023–2025), becoming only the third footballer ever to achieve a three-peat after Michel Platini (1983–85) and Lionel Messi (2009–12).

·         Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, became the 1st player to clinch the Men’s Kopa Trophy twice.

·         Barcelona Femeni’s Vicky Lopez, won the inaugural women’s Kopa Trophy against Michelle Agyemang.

·         This year’s Socrates Award was conferred to the Xana Foundation (Spain), instituted by Luis Enrique in the memory of his daughter to support children with life-threatening diseases.

·         PSG and Arsenal won the Men’s and Women’s Clubs of the Year title, respectively.
