1.       G20 LEADERS SUMMIT

·         Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook a three-day official visit to South Africa to participate in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit, marking his 12th G20 summit.

·         The 2025 G20 Summit, held in Johannesburg, South Africa, was the first G20 summit ever hosted on the African continent.

·         He addressed the Opening session of the G20 summit titled “Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth-Leaving No One Behind”.



·         During the session,he proposed six ideas for the G20.

·         The 2025 G20 Summit, hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, was the fourth consecutive G20 Summit held in the Global South.

·         Theme: The 2025 summit was held under the theme titled “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability”.

·         During the summit, the G20 leaders agreed and adopted the 122‑Point Leaders’ Declaration emphasized solidarity, equality, and sustainability, highlighting multilateral cooperation and the priorities of the Global South.

·         During the G20 Summit, India, Canada, and Australia launched the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership, a trilateral technology and innovation partnership.

·         PM Narendra Modi attended the India Brazil South Africa (IBSA) Leaders’ Meeting, in Johannesburg,  hosted by Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa and attended by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil.

 

2.       INDONESIA DECLARED POLIO-FREE BY WHO

·         World Health Organization (WHO) declared Indonesia is free from type-2 circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVPDV), following the non-reporting of polio virus cases in children or the environment since June 2024.

·         WHO requires a country to remain polio-free for at least three years without any wild poliovirus cases.

·         The country must have robust immunization programs, effective surveillance systems, and rapid response mechanisms for any suspected cases.

·         As per the WHO’s polio transition report, in 1995, Indonesia stopped indigenous wild poliovirus transmission and was certified wild-polio free in 2014.

·         Poliomyelitis (Polio) is a highly contagious disease caused by poliovirus.

·         It mainly affects children under 5 years of age.

·         It cannot be treated but can be prevented through vaccination.

·         The virus primarily attacks the nervous system.

·         Polio spreads through fecal-oral route while consuming food or water contaminated with infected feces and oral-oral route, rarely through saliva or personal contact.

·         Types of Polio includes Wild Poliovirus (WPV), which naturally occurs and is responsible for historic polio outbreaks worldwide and Vaccine-Derived Poliovirus (VDPV), which rarely occurs when weakened poliovirus in oral vaccines mutates.

·         Vaccines includes Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), which contains a live weakened virus to stop its spread, and the Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV), which contains a killed virus to provide strong individual immunity.

·         Indonesia Capital – Jakarta.

·         Currency - Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).

 

3.       INDIAN NAVY COMMISSIONS ASW-SWC ‘INS MAHE’

·         Indian Navy (IN) commissioned Indian Naval Ship (INS) Mahe, the first indigenously designed and built Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Watercraft (ASW-SWC) at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.

·         The ceremony was presided over by General UpendraDwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS).

·         INS Mahe, developed by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), is the lead ship of eight vessels in Mahe class.

·         INS Mahe is approximately 78 metres (m) long, with a displacement of 1,100 tonnes.

·         It uses adiesel and water-jet propulsion system, which provides high maneuverability and a low acoustic signature, essential for stealthy anti-submarine operations in shallow waters.

·         The ship has a crew complement of around 57 personnel, including 7 officers and 50 sailors.

 

4.       53RD INTERNATIONAL EMMY AWARDS 2025

·         The 53rd International Emmy Awards were held in New York City, USA celebrating excellence in televisionproduced outside the United States presented by International Academy of Television Arts &Sciences (IATAS).

·         The 53rd International Emmy Awards featured a strong and diverse slate of nomination of 56 nominees across 16 competitive categories from 26 countries including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Qatar, Spain, Türkiye, United Kingdom, India, South Africa, Italy, France, Mexico, Brazil, Netherlands, and more.

·         India received two nominations for Amar Singh Chamkila, with DiljitDosanjh nominated for Best Actor and Best TV Movie/Mini-Series.

·         Best TV Movie/Mini-Series: Lost Boys and Fairies (UK).

·         Best Actor:OriolPla for Yo, adicto (Spain).

·         Best Actress: Anna Maxwell Martin for Until I Kill You (UK).

·         Best Drama Series: Rivals (UK).

·         Best Comedy: Ludwig (UK).

·         Best Art Programming:Ryuichi Sakamoto: Last Days (Japan).

·         Best Documentary: Hell Jumper (UK).

·         Best Short-Form Series: La Mediatrice (Canada).

 

5.       INDIA’S ‘MAHAVATAR NARSIMHA’ ENTERS OSCARS 2026 RACE

·         India’s mythological animated film Mahavatar Narsimha was officially listed among 35 eligible films for the Best Animated Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards (Oscars 2026), by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

·         A mythological animated epic directed by Ashwin Kumar and produced by Shilpaa Dhawan.

 

6.       WORLD BOXING CUP FINALS 2025

·         The World Boxing Cup Finals 2025 was held in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

·         The five-day event served as the season finale of the 2025 World Boxing Cup series, organised by World Boxing (WB) in partnership with the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).

·         The first edition of World Boxing Cup 2025 was held in three stages:First stage Took place in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil.

·         Second stage in Astana, Kazakhstan,Finals in UP, India.

·         India emerged as the top nation with a record 20-medals9 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze in the finals with all 20 participating Indian boxers achieving a podium finish.

·         World Boxing (WB) Headquarters – Lausanne, Switzerland.

·         Established – 13 April 2023.

 

7.       BLIND WOMEN’S T20 WORLD CUP

·         India’s women’s blind cricket team scripted history by winning the inaugural Blind Women’s Twenty20 (T20) World Cup final in Colombo, Sri Lanka by defeating Nepal by 7 wickets, completing the tournament undefeated.

·         Matches were held in Delhi, Bengaluru (Karnataka), and Colombo (Sri Lanka).

·         Nepal scored 114/5 in 20 overs, and India chased it in 12.1 overs, losing 3 wickets.

·         Six teams played a round-robin league followed by knockouts.

·         Teams: India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, and USA.

·         Ball: White plastic ball with metal bearings for sound.

·         Bowling: Bowled underarm along the ground.

·         Batting: B1 batters use runners, and each run counts as two.

 

8.       ISSF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RIFLE/PISTOL 2025

·         The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) conducted the ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol 2025 in Cairo, capital of Egypt featuring 720 shooters from 70 National Olympic Committees (NOCs).

·         China topped the medal tally with 21 medals (12 gold, 7 silver, 2 bronze) followed by South Korea with 14 medals (7 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze) and India with 13 medals (3 gold, 6 silver, 4 bronze).

·         Samrat Rana won gold in Men’s 10 metre (m) Air Pistol, Ravinder Singh in Men’s 50m Standard Pistol, and India also claimed gold in the Men’s 10m Air Pistol Team event.
