1. SOUTH
KOREA PM
·
South Korean President Lee Jae
Myung nominated Han
Seong-sook, current Minister for Small and Medium-sized
Enterprises (SMEs), as the country’s next Prime Minister(PM).
·
Upon parliamentary
approval, Han Seong-sook will become the second woman PM in
South Korea’s history, following Han Myeong-sook, who served from 2006 to 2007.
2. RBI
DEPUTY GOVERNOR
·
The Government of India re-appointed Swaminathan Janakiraman as
Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India for another 2 years.
·
As per
RBI, his re-appointment will be effective from June 26, 2026 and
will remain valid for two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
·
The
RBI Act 1934 mandated that the central bank should have 4
deputy governors, two from
within the ranks, one commercial
banker and an economist to lead
the monetary policy department.
·
The other 3 deputy governors are: Poonam
Gupta, Shirish Chandra Murmu and Rohit Jain.
3. DIRECTOR
ON RBI, SBI CENTRAL BOARDS
·
The Government of India (GoI) nominated Sanjay
Lohiya, Secretary of Department of Financial Services (DFS) under
the Ministry of Finance (MoF), as a Non-Executive Director on
the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and
State Bank of India (SBI).
·
He is a 1994-batch Indian Administrative
Service (IAS) officer of Assam-Meghalaya Cadre.
4. INDIA’S
FIRST JUDICIARY-INTEGRATED WILDLIFE OFFENCE SYSTEM ‘HAWK’
·
The
Kerala Forest Department, under the Forests and Wildlife
Department of the Government of Kerala, launched the Hostile Activity Watch Kernel (HAWK), India’s
first fully digitised and
judiciary-integrated wildlife offence management system.
·
It is a cloud-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
system that manages wildlife crime data and supports investigation,
intelligence gathering, and enforcement against wildlife offences.
5. NZP
SAATHI APP
·
Union Minister of State Kirti Vardhan
Singh, Ministry for Environment, Forest and Climate Change
(MoEFCC), launched the ‘NZP Saathi App’, a digital zoo guide, and inaugurated self-ticketing
kiosks at the National
Zoological Park(NZP) in New Delhi
·
It aims
to improve visitor experience through
smart navigation and easy online ticketing.
6. 1.25
LAKH CRORE VB-G RAM G RURAL DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE
·
Union Minister Shivraj Singh
Chouhan, Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) and Ministry of
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoAFW), unveiled the Viksit
Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM
G) framework, a Rs. 1.25
lakh crore rural development initiative.
·
Effective
from 1 July 2026, the scheme aims to generate employment,
create village assets, and promote digital governance across nearly 2.8 lakh Gram Panchayats.
·
Development works will be selected through Gram Panchayats and Gram Sabhas,
focusing on roads, water conservation structures, community infrastructure, and
other durable rural assets.
7. FIRST
CITY UNDER INDIA’S EASY CONNECT MODEL FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL
·
Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu,
Ministry of Civil Aviation (MCA), announced that Varanasi
(UP) as the first city integrated
into India’s Easy Connect hub-and-spoke aviation model,
enabling international travellers to
complete immigration and baggage formalities before Delhi and connect
seamlessly to 17 global destinations.

Easy
Connect is a hub-and-spoke aviation model that allows
passengers to complete international
immigration and baggage formalities at their origin airport and transit
seamlessly through Phase-1 hub airports Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru (Karnataka),
and Rajkot (Gujarat).
·
The
initiative is implemented by the MCA and operated by Air
India, the service will commence on the Varanasi–Delhi route (AI-1111).

SIPRI REPORT 2025
·
Global
think-tank Stockholm International Peace Research
Institute (SIPRI) released its annual assessment of the
state of armaments, disarmament and
international security i.e. “SIPRI Yearbook 2026:
Armaments, Disarmament and International Security”.
·
According to the report, India was
the world’s fifth-largest military spender in 2025, with
defence expenditure reaching USD 92.1 billion, an
increase of 8.9% compared to 2024.
·
The
report also estimated that India’s
nuclear arsenal increased from 180 warheads in 2025 to 190
warheads as of January 2026.
·
Global
military expenditure surged for the 11th consecutive year i.e.
to USD 2.9 trillion in 2025, representing 2.5% of the
world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
·
USA retained
its position as the world’s largest
military spender, its expenditure reached
USD 954 billion in 2025.
·
It was followed by China with
USD 336 billion and Russia with USD 190 billion, ranking second and third.
·
the report estimated that all 9 nuclear states, including the
USA, Russia, the United Kingdom (UK), France, China, India, Pakistan, North
Korea and Israel, together possessed nearly 12,187 nuclear
weapons.
9. WEF’S
2026 TECH PIONEERS COHORT
·
The World Economic Forum (WEF) released
its latest 2026 Technology Pioneers
cohort, selecting 100 early-stage companies
from 23 countries for reshaping
industries and society through breakthrough innovations in Artificial
Intelligence (AI), energy, quantum computing, biotechnology, climate
innovation, space and advanced manufacturing.

This year’s technology cohort list featured a
total of 9 Indian start-ups.
·
With
this, the total number of Indian firms
to the WEF’s cohort has reached 28, including Agnikul Cosmos, Cropin, Digantara, among
others.
·
USA)
with 43 startups, has the highest number of tech-startups on 2026 list followed
by China (10), the United Kingdom (8).
·
The selected companies will contribute to WEF
initiatives over a two-year engagement programme.
10. ‘MADE IN INDIA’ C295 AIRCRAFT
·
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Airbus
SE successfully completed the first test flight of India’s
maiden domestically manufactured Airbus C295
military transport aircraft from the Final Assembly Line in Vadodara, Gujarat, marking India’s first large-scale private-sector
military aircraft programme.
·
It is a
part of manufacturing project under the Rs.21,935-crore Ministry
of Defence (MoD) contract to supply 56 C295 aircraft
to the Indian Air Force (IAF), including
16 in fly-away conditionfrom Spain and 40
aircraft to be assembled in India with deliveries scheduled from 2026 and
completion by 2031.
