1. US NAVY TESTED WORLD'S LARGEST
UNMANNED SURFACE VESSEL, SEA HUNTER
i. United States of America tested the world's largest unmanned surface
vessel named Sea Hunter.
ii. It is designed to travel thousands of miles out at sea without
a single crew member on board.
iii. The ship is powered by two diesel engines and can reach
speeds of 27 knots per hour.
2. MARK SELBY WON WORLD SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP
i. England's world number one Mark Selby grabbed World
Championship title of Snooker.
ii. He defeated China’s Ding Junhui by 18-14.
ii. Now he became the first Asian player to win the world title.
3. BHUPENDRA KAINTHOLA TAKES CHARGE AS FTII DIRECTOR
i. Indian Information Service
officer Bhupendra Kainthola took charge as Director of Film and
Television Institute of India .
ii. He has replaced Prashant Pathrabe.
iii. Film and Television Institute of India is first institute in
the country that provides training for acting, film making, video editing,
direction and production.
iv. It is an autonomous body under Ministry of Information and
Broadcasting.
4. SC SETS UP RM LODHA PANEL TO OVERSEE FUNCTIONS OF MEDICAL
COUNCIL OF INDIA
i. The Supreme Court has formed a committee headed by former Chief
Justice of India RM Lodha to oversee the functions of the Medical Council of
India .
ii. The main work of the committee is to oversee all statutory
functions under the Medical Council of India, Act.
iii. The MCI is the statutory regulator of medical profession and
education in India.
iv. SC stated that MCI had repeatedly failed in its duties and the
quality of medical education in the country was at its lowest ebb.
v. MCI has been accused of indulging in corrupt practices.
5. INDIA’S GDP TO GROW AT 7.5% FOR 2016-17
i. International Monetary Fund projected India’s growth rate at
7.5 percent for the year 2016.
ii. The IMF stated India’s growth rate in its report titled
Regional Economic Outlook: Asia and Pacific, Building on Asia’s Strengths.
iii. It stated that GDP growth rate of India will be 7.5 percent
growth in 2016 and 2017.
6. INDIA’S FIRST SCORPENE CLASS SUBMARINE INS KALVARI UNDERGOES
FIRST SEA TRIAL
i. INS Kalvari, Indian Navy’s first indigenous Scorpene-class
stealth submarine, has been recently launched in the Mumbai naval dockyard.
ii. It is a diesel-electric attack submarine which is built under
the strategic Project collaboration with French naval defence and energy company
DCNS.
iii. INS Kalvari is also known as Tiger Shark .
iv. It can undertake various operations including multifarious
warfare, Anti-submarine warfare, Intelligence gathering, mine laying, area
surveillance etc.
