1. NITA
AMBANI BECOMES FIRST INDIAN WOMAN MEMBER OF IOC
i. Nita Ambani was elected as an individual member of International
Olympic Committee .
ii. She becomes the first Indian woman to join the
prestigious body which governs Olympic sports in the world.
iii. Nita Ambani is only current active individual member
of the IOC from India and shall serve at the high-profile world body until she
attains the age of 70.
iv. The IOC is the supreme authority of the Olympic
Movement headquartered at Lausanne, Switzerland.
2. RAJYA
SABHA PASSES THE CONSTITUTION (122ND AMENDMENT) (GST) BILL, 2014
i. The Rajya Sabha has unanimously passed The
Constitution (122nd Amendment) (GST) Bill, 2014 to introduce the goods and
services tax .
ii. India took giant step in structural indirect taxation
reform and paved way for the concept of one nation, one tax.
iii. Earlier the Bill was passed in Lok Sabha in May
2015.
iv. GST is single indirect tax for the whole nation,
which will make India one unified common market.
v. It is a single tax on the supply of goods and
services, right from the manufacturer to the consumer.
vi. Indirect taxes will include Central Excise Duty, Additional Excise Duty, Service Tax,
Additional Customs Duty , Special Additional Duty of Customs.
vii. At the State level it will iclude State Value Added
Tax or Sales Tax, Octroi and Entry tax,)
Purchase Tax, Luxury tax, and Taxes on
lottery, betting and gambling
Entertainment Tax , Central Sales Tax
viii. Additional 1% tax on inter-State trade and it will
be levied by Centre in the course of inter-State trade.

ESIGNDESK FACILITY AADHAR-LINKED ESIGNATURE FACILITY LAUNCHED
i. Aadhar-linked eSignature facility named as eSignDesk
was launched for the online legal documentation business.
ii. Esigndesk based on Aadhaar platform it is actually an
initiative of the Union Government aimed at allowing all citizens (with
Aadhaar) to remotely sign any document.
iii. The users of
this facility need to have a registered mobile number associated with the
Aadhaar card.
4. SAARC
IMMIGRATION AUTHORITIES MEETING HELD IN ISLAMABAD
i. The seventh meeting of South Asian Association for
Regional Cooperation Immigration
Authorities was held in Islamabad, Pakistan.
ii. The meeting was chaired by Usman A. Bajwa, Pakistan’s
Director General Immigration and Passports, .
iii. The meeting aimed at formulating recommendations to
be presented in the meetings of Home Secretaries and Interior Ministers
meetings.

5. VINOD RAI STEPS DOWN
FROM IDFC BANK’S BOARD
i. Former Comptroller and Auditor General of India Vinod
Rai stepped down from private sector
lender IDFC Bank’s board.
ii. He will continue to be the non-executive independent
chairman of IDFC Ltd.
iii. The decision was taken to avoid conflict of interest
as Rai is also the chairman of Bank Board Bureau
iv. Vinod Rai was the 11th Comptroller and Auditor
General of India.
